Wouldn't take Hooper but probably the other two.
pangy Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 I thought the "big boys" have all been linked with Wanyama,I think if he was available he would head to a bigger club. Not Sure Hooper is now what we need/want. Regardless of the source of the rumour, you can be assured that the next window will be the craziest in a very long time for us with regard to who we are looking at/buying,we will be linked with everyone,I am looking forward to it
Matthew Le God Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Wouldn't take Hooper but probably the other two. Do we need Forster when Boruc is our first choice keeper? I doubt either would be happy to play second fiddle to the other. I think it'll be Boruc, Davis, Gazzaniga and Cropper as our keepers again next season.
MOSaint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Definitely take Wanyama and Forster, not so sure about Hooper.
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Hooper has scored goals all his career, yes only in the football league and SPL, but also Europe. It would be stupid to not want him if he was a target for us IMO. Agree about Wanyama though, he is an exceptional player.
Nexstar Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Would take Forster in a heartbeat, he's a cracking keeper.

I think it'll be Boruc, Davis, Gazzaniga and Cropper as our keepers again next season. I don't think NC gives a dam about people being happy playing 2nd fiddle to someone else. If a better player/manager/programme sales person comes on the market, NC will buy/hire them regardless of feelings.
Miltonroader07 Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Agree, would not take Hooper, can we do a deal and send Fox back with Goolie

That is Bang On Tokyo, NC has done great thus far with the "**** em" approach so let him carry on, we can slag him off later

Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Cortese might not give a damn, but Forster and his agent would. why?

Rasiak-9- Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Wanyama would be an excellent signing. Not Izaguirre though? Would have thought he'd have been part of the three. I'd like to see us put in a bid for Wilfried Bony as well.
Saint_clark Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Forster would be brilliant, should be englands number 1 at the mo.
Suhari Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Not convinced there would be anything in this; Swiss chairman, Argentine manager, signing players from Scotland?! Intrigued by one of the links below though: The 25 Hottest Halloween Costumes in Sport.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Cortese might not give a damn, but Forster and his agent would. You ever known a successful player that wasn't confident in his own ability? If he didn't believe he could win the number 1 jersey, I wouldn't want him at the club. That's that settled then, he ain't coming. No point in having a keeper that lacks confidence.

Boruc and Davis have recently signed new contracts in the last few months and we also have Gazzaniga and Cropper. I don't think we will be looking to get a new keeper this summer.

I don't think we will be looking to get a new keeper this summer. You calling Ian Macfarlane at the Express and Caughtoffside.com liars? FWIT - I know we sent a scout to watch Celtic last week, I reckon they are guessing who we were scouting. It could have been Neil Lennon or Paddy Doherty for all we/they know.
Bucks Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 (edited) I thought Wanyama had come out very recently to say he was very happy, not going anywhere, wants to stay there next season at least? I would have Hooper tomorrow, the only issue being it will take a very big fee, as we found out last time. He offers something different to Jay Rod and SRL. I dont know how happy he might be on the bench (and for a big fee, whether would be happy) but Hooper would address the concern that I have, when JR and SRL are on the pitch, as to who we can bring on to change things. I dont get too excited about Mayuka yet, and we dont have anyone else. Only if we dont land Lukaku though... Edited 1 May, 2013 by Bucks Saint
Marsdinho Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Was also in the Express on Tuesday. Not that that adds weight to the rumour. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/395811/Southampton-set-sights-on-Celtic-trio-Victor-Wanyama-Gary-Hooper-and-Fraser-Forster
old_southy Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Article should read "Southampton scout seen at Celtic"
Charlie Wayman Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 This from a website that can't even get our kit right? Do me a favour! Artur & Jos came from Celtic, Davies from Rangers.... Champions League material... I think not.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Article should read "Southampton scout seen at Celtic" Celtic played at Motherwell on Sunday.
VectisSaint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Not convinced there would be anything in this; Swiss chairman, Argentine manager, signing players from Scotland?! Do we have a new chairman? I thought ours was Italian.
Matthew Le God Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 This from a website that can't even get our kit right? Do me a favour! If you read the article you would see they are actually reporting a Daily Express story, rather than claiming it as their own. Southampton are rumoured to be keen on making an audacious triple swoop for Celtic trio Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper and Fraser Forster, according to The Express. Artur & Jos came from Celtic, Davies from Rangers.... Champions League material... I think not. Artur Boruc was a free transfer after two years at Fiorentina. It is Steven Davis, not Steven Davies. I wouldn't criticise websites for inaccuracies when you make mistakes about the team you support.

Ironic that the person holding the record for being wrong the most, so much so that he has be dubbed 'Mr Wrong' on this forum should be correcting others.

Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Grow up. More irony. Stop being such a nitpicking pri*k. So the fella spelt Davis name wrong, who gives a f*ck?
Barry Sanchez Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 He signed a new contract last season, should of bought him before Forster would be a brilliant signing thogugh.Wanyama is a quality player but I dont believe he would be a consistent starter, Hooper as well,
Matthew Le God Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 More irony. It appears you don't understand the meaning of "irony".

Matthew Le God Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 More nitpicking. Turkish = Mr Wrong Like you also were about Reading/QPR drawing and the both going down.

By the way, I suck balls Ha ha a classic MLG post. Well done MLG, I'd started to think you had lost it - back to form.
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Turkish = Mr Wrong Like you also were about Reading/QPR drawing and the both going down. It's your well earned nickname fella, don't try and palm it off on me. Do you still think Swansea adding 11,000 seats to their 20,532 capacity stadium will give them a bigger capacity than St Mary's by the way?
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 How is the stadium expansion going at Wolves? We haven't had an update in a while.
DuncanRG Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Celtic do very well to hold onto their top players - loads of clubs including us have gone in for Hooper over the last three or four windows and been told to stuff it. A lot of their players seem to love the club and fans. I'm not entirely sure where those players would fit in but I'd absolutely take all three. Wanyama is a class, class act.
melmacian_saint Posted 2 May, 2013 Posted 2 May, 2013 Wanyama would be an excellent signing. Not Izaguirre though? Would have thought he'd have been part of the three. I'd have those two any day.
The9 Posted 2 May, 2013 Posted 2 May, 2013 You'd have thought Hooper signing for Saints would have died a death when Adkins left really, but I suppose he's not going to sign for Reading now they're down, so they have decided to ignore that minor issue.
itchen_dan Posted 3 May, 2013 Posted 3 May, 2013 I know it's a short article but The Daily Mail tonight reporting we want Wanyama for £10m after watching him last weekend against Motherwell http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2319108/Celtic-midfielder-Victor-Wanyama-watched-Southampton.html

UpweySaint Posted 3 May, 2013 Posted 3 May, 2013 Did Norwich cool their interest in him? They've got a deal lined up for Van Wolfswinkel from sporting. Though they're not exactly a side filled with goals and both would be nice I dont think they could afford, would want, to big money strikers in one season.
studentsaint Posted 3 May, 2013 Posted 3 May, 2013 According to the daily mail we are in for wanyama. I know this has been mentioned before but now the tabloids are suggesting our interest in the player.

Wolfswinkel will be a class player for them. Could easily see him spending no more than a season at Carrow Road before joining one of the big 4. As for Hooper he would flop at PL level.
SuperMikey Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Wolfswinkel will be a class player for them. Could easily see him spending no more than a season at Carrow Road before joining one of the big 4. This is what a lot of people said about Ramirez when he signed for us. As for Hooper he would flop at PL level. This is what a lot of people said about Rickie at the start of the season.
