This summers dream signing would be??

Anyone for Carlos Vela? Great record this year, Spanish league and real class. Never given the time at arsenal.

Yes! Always rated him and enjoyed watching him play. It's a shame he didn't make an impression at Arsenal. I'd give him a go - how are Sociedad's finances? If they're among the debt-ridden clubs in Spain we might be able to get him for a tidy price.

Jonny Evans (yeah like this will happen)

He's hardly setting the world alight at Man U, and they'll need to replace Ferdinand pretty soon, I can see him being surplus to requirements if they buy a couple of better players.

Strangely I dreamt last night we signed him for £8m and people were complaining he wasn't worth the money, too old and wouldn't suit our style if play!

I'd just be pointing out that he's still wearing Jan 2012 boots all the time and thinking it was hilarious, not caring that no-one else gives a toss.

To answer the original question, I really rate Maloney at Wigan. If they go down, I'm sure he'll go to a Prem side, but not sure one of the top 5 or 6 teams would go in for him.

On the assumption that we and Gaston decide to part company this summer (which I strongly suspect), I think Maloney would be great to fit in behind the striker/s.

Top priority has to be a strong CB, but Maloney is the sort of player who I think would excite the fans, and also have an end product, which sadly isn't always the case with Gaston.

Come on leaps and bounds this season, I think he'll be there his entire career.

Luke Shaw is the first signing I want, after that the fellow called Astori who was talked about in January would be good. Then we need a dashing sort of centre forward becos our Rickie ain't going to be big goal scorer next season and I've got big doubts about Lallana holding a regular place too

Yeah, I really rate Maloney, think hes quality - and always stands out when I see him play.

Maloney over Gaston though? No thank you.

I also don't know why people get the opinion Gaston is going to go this summer.

We've still got the likes of Forte and Barnard sitting around.

To be fair, there would be a queue of clubs for Gaston at a sensible price, but offloading Barnard and Forte may come down to simply paying off contracts as nobody wants them, so it's no surprise they are still here.

Its pretty obvious for me he wont go for less than we paid for him, and IMO it doesnt make sense to rid ourselves of a player who has clear potential and TBH has only had one season in a new league.

Get some technical players around him and the boy will shine.

New striker for me

Fair enough, can't say I'd noticed. If it was me I'd be trying to hang around there for as long as possible too. :)

Nothing to do with "nobody wanting them", there are plenty of L1 and L2 clubs that would love to have them, but no-one is going to pay them as much as we are with the bonuses they presumably have for 2 successive promotions.

So because they are too expensive, nobody wants them?

They'd be gone if somebody wanted them enough, or if they wanted to play football enough to drop a few quid. It's happened with other players of ours.

That would be Wayne Bridge (again) then.

I wouldn't be too disappointed. I think we really need cover, but how are we going to do better than two young talents like Clyne and Shaw, who are almost certainly future England fullbacks. We're not going to get something even as good as them, as they will want to play every week. There is no point signing 'one for the future' as they are that. So Bridge might not be that daft, clearly still a good player, probably won't expect week-in, week-out starts and brings a lot of experience.

I think if we recall Billy Sharp we won't need anyone up front. And don't forget we get Aaron Martin and Dan Seaborne back at the end of the season to strengthen the defence (I think Martin should be ready for the Premier League soon with all the experience he has been getting out on loan).

Isco...

Oh you said realistic.....

Astori, Biglia, Callejon, Lopez.

The choice being close to unrealistic but that might have a small small chance...

Osvaldo.

This and add Lens and that Morrocan lad we were in for in January. Plus I'd have a look at some Swiss players, they look technically excellent i.el xhaqiri. I think there are good players in the Championship as well who could step up like Ince, Buckley etc

Keisuke Honda - he's keeping Kagawa out of the Japanese national team, he's on a free transfer, can play on the left or right wing, in the hole behind the striker, as a false number 9 or even as a holding midfielder or playmaker. He'd also add to the ever growing band of Japanese Saints fans.

For left back Martin Olsson - right age and probably happy to compete with Shaw for a starting slot in the premier league. Can also play left midfield.

For similar reasons Kieran Trippier might be a good one to give us some competition at right back as well.

I'd be more than happy with 2 or 3 from Jose Callejon, Davide Astori, Lucas Biglia and Adrian Lopez though.

I also have a feeling we might see Charlie Austin in a Saints shirt next season. He's too good for the championship, always linked up well with Jay Rod at Burnley, he's the right age and his girlfriend wants a return to the South Coast.

I bet he's got a good engine.

Has Jonas Townsend been mentioned? Although dont know how highly AVB rates him but impressed me when seen him.

Relying on MP for La Liga bargains from cash-strapped clubs. Lets face it most if our transfers have been well guarded so far.

According to that BBC article we have 2 lined up, we've been very heavily linked to Astori so he might be one. I would suspect another is a bosman.

Does anyone know some major players who's contract runs out this summer?

I think for the 1st 11 we need a dominant CB to take charge at the back.

Reminded me of "Who is that black centre back? He is so dominant!"

But seriously, I would like to see us add to our defensive set up. Astori would be terrific so lets hope the chat about him having been courted already is true. Someone slapped down an earlier suggestion of Micah Richards but to me he is an excellent, talented player who needs a new challenge. he is also versatile enough to play across the back four.

There are a few players from the Championship who must be worth a look given their impact at that level this season - Trippier, Hughes from Derby, even the lad Vydra from Watford although I have a suspicion that his contract and ownership status is likely to be more complex than most.

My dream signing would be a world class powerhouse forward, like a Gomez, a Lewandowski, a Higuain.

But if I could pick one ever so slightly realistic dream signing then it would be Iker Muniain from Athletic Bilbao. He is very young yet has over 100 games under his belt in La Liga. Lots more to come from the man who was dubbed the Spanish Messi >_

Waldo Ponce - I've been following ponce since World Cup 2010. He is Chilean international CB currently playing for Universidad. Would be massive boost for shirt sales!

He's no Francisco "Chiqui" Arce.
