This summers dream signing would be??

you hardly ever see benteke running at pace with the ball taking on defenders, not too sure why you would say that?

on monday night, benteke dropped deep plenty of times to win the ball and lay it off

Benteke more of a powerful centre forward, dropping deep giving defenders a lot to think about,

also good with both feet & head. More pace than Rickie (not hard though)

Who are the current top prospects in Scandinavia Torre? We usually did well with players from there.

I follow Malmo FF due to having family from that region, and there are some good young players in their squad. Can't say I know a huge amount about other Scandinavian leagues, but I do watch Allsvenskan games pretty regularly and have noticed a few players HCDAJFU.

Got a cracking young centre-back pairing of Pontus Jansson (22, 4 caps for Sweden) and Filip Helander (20, youth international) - both of whom are giants and good defenders. Jasmin Sudic is also a good CB but he's had problems with injuries in the last few years that have led to him being loaned out to Mjallby this season, where he's done well so far. Ivo Pekalski would be a very good addition for us I think, kind of an amalgamation of Morgan and Corky in his playing style. Likes to get stuck in but is cultured on the ball and has a sweet pair of feet. Very raw still but highly rated by the Swedish national team staff and still in his early twenties. Dardan Rexhepi is one that might be questioned by people who watch the Allsvenskan because he's not exactly been prolific in his goalscoring for Malmo, but he's an intelligent player who knows how to use his physicality. Jiloan Hamad is probably the one to go for though, he's 22 years old and is captain of the team, been in great form so far this season and is a very talented player. Can play on either wing but is best on the left. Quick, good on the ball and a good crosser too.

Malmo would be a good team to look at for young talent, they've got a good track-record of producing some quality players! The likes of Patrik Andersson, Behrang Safari and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have come out of their academy in the last 25 years and their current crop of academy players in the first-team are a very talented bunch.

Still think the main priority is a striker, Lambert is proven, Rodriguez has been good recently but is still unproven, Mayuka again is completely unknown, and Guly is hit and miss. I'd like to see Remy but i think he'll be off to on of the top 6, despite what i previously said about players being unproven i reckon Jordan Rhodes or Gary Hooper are decent options.

Only know about the norwegian league, and we've already signed the best player from there. The standard of norwegian players isn't what it used to be

the thread title says dream, the OP says realistic. Not sure they fit well together. I think Callum McManaman looks decent.

that he does. Full of energy and a good shot

Andros Townsend would be great

Tom Ince

like weimann, if villa went down

Townsend IMO is this seasons James McClean. He is a complete one trick pony, will go outside down the right and then always cuts onto his left foot...every single time. He generally does it well, but teams will wise up.

Has scored some good goals and is a talent however. Will be interesting if Spurs keep him, and Danny Rose.

spurs would be mad to get rid of Danny Rose. He is (in the main) been excellent for a poor sunderland.

he could well take over at LB for spurs seeing as they seem to chop and change a great deal there at the mo

You are obviously having a laugh right ?!

obviously, how can a player who's scored more goals be better. Lambert is overated in PL terms because he has no pace. Now if he was shuffled back to midfield I might change my opinion but he is fading fast as a principal striker. We won't get penalties every game.

I said what I said as I personally think Lambert is fading, still a top player on his game but looking at what Benteke, Michu and Lukaku have been doing rather consistantly this year it shows you what we could have.

Fwiw, and Im not massively comparing Lambert and holt as they offer different things but as a goalscorer they score similar goals. And noticeably he has not been as effective this year.

For me, replacements needed are;

CB

CM

St

Wide man

Not that I have anything against those players but to improve you need to evolve

Rickie has 10 assists this season, I'd be surprised if Benteke has half that amount.

If you think Benteke has greater vision than Rickie then you must be Laughing_Saint

Assists really dont bother me from a man who is supposed to be our main striker TBH, your more than welcome to wish the only guy we play upfront sits deep and so is rarely in a position to finish chances but as a preference I would want my midfield and FBs to stump up the assists and my main man to score/provide the occasional assist.

Have you been Smoking_Saint?

My initial point was that Rickie was better on the ball than Benteke. He is. What you want from a striker is neither here nor there.

Before all the pathetic bed wetters say anything, yes I know we aren't mathematically safe yet, but if we were to sign one "marque" player this summer, a realistic one, who would it be?

My nipper reckons Remy would be a top, top signing and I tend to agree.

Don't say things like "top, top signing" it reminds me of saggy chops.

Arjen Robben would be a pretty decent 'dream' signing. Wouldn't cost an awful lot either.

depends, relatively cheap to buy perhaps, expensive to maintain. We aren't going to pay anyone 5 million £ a year.

Anyway it's academic, won't go to a club not in the Champions League, players have their standards to keep up you know. WC in 2014, won't get picked if you aren't in the CL or at least the Europa League, not for a major nation.

Ahh ok, my bad, just thought that a striker in general would be judged by goals ? Ill have to get the latest update of my coaching manual.

FWIW benteke has 22 goals and 8 assists for Villa this season, not too shabby for an inexperienced team that has spent much of the season scrapping for their lives.

Benteke, along with lukaku are going to have brilliant careers at the top level

The OP said realistic, Lukaku isn't realistic.

From what I've heard of Astori he seems to fit the bill as to a quality player who is realistic in a position we need to strengthen in. Thomas Ince would be a quality signing too.

Lukaku!!!

It will be a youngster I never heard of until I see what an amazing player he is on youtube. :?

Only jock football but we may be watching this bloke, not Celtic players, this bloke

mind you that number 8 looks handy as well but it is jock football

I'm not sure about realistic but Eliseu would be a cracking signing from Malaga, who've done very well despite their financial frailties. He's a lightning quick left back/left midfielder who can score goals, and he's 29, so not a long term disruptor to Shaw's progress.

I do see Pochettino going back to Spain to sign a few people - and I do think we're in for a surprising and very exciting summer transfer-wise.

Serbian youngster, 6ft 4", similar style to Vidic. More caps for the national team than he got for under 21's so clearly progressing quickly right now. Surely he'd prefer Bassett to Belgrade (he says having never been to Belgrade).

Our last signing from Belgrade was pretty exceptional, so if this bloke could be half as good that gets my vote.

Dries Mertens is another quality Belgian player, who would also be my answer to the question in the OP if it weren't for the realistic part.

Lens would be more realistic and would a lot to the side going forward, good enough to potentially get into double digits for goals and assists from midfield.
