View From The Top Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Before all the pathetic bed wetters say anything, yes I know we aren't mathematically safe yet, but if we were to sign one "marque" player this summer, a realistic one, who would it be? My nipper reckons Remy would be a top, top signing and I tend to agree.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 A centre-back for me. Chuck some money at it. I don't really know who is about/available that would fit the bill. There doesn't seem a great deal about in general at the minute. Anyway, that's what scouts are for. Perhaps someone like Astori?
Jimmy_D Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 I think it'll be one that, if it were suggested now, it'd be claimed to be unrealistic. (No, I don't have a clue who. I just think the club might surprise us.)
Pilchards Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Astori - IMHO done deal so I will go with David Villa.
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The OP said realistic, Lukaku isn't realistic. From what I've heard of Astori he seems to fit the bill as to a quality player who is realistic in a position we need to strengthen in. Thomas Ince would be a quality signing too.
saints-cris Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 I think we will land Astori at some point, clearly we are after him.
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 I think we will land Astori at some point, clearly we are after him. You'd hope so wouldn't you.
pingwing Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Micah Richards. Seriously? About as inspiring as Anton Ferdinand. The OP said realistic, Lukaku isn't realistic. From what I've heard of Astori he seems to fit the bill as to a quality player who is realistic in a position we need to strengthen in. Thomas Ince would be a quality signing too. In my dreams he goes back to Chelsea in the summer goes LOOK I'M AMAZING, they go NAHHH we got Torres yeah and he's worth 3 of you so we loan you out to Holland where you have to prove you're a 40 goal a season player before we consider you better than nando yeah? He goes WTF TRANSFER LIST ME and we swoop in shouting GOOD GOD YES. Done deal already, heard it here first. Ince is a decent option too.
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 A good song for Astori would be..... Needed a little time to sign up, need a little time to sign up, sign up What's the story Davide Astrori weeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllll We will get Davide Astori, Davide Astori We got him for a fee and he likes linguine Davide Astori
dubai_phil Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The OP said realistic, Lukaku isn't realistic. From what I've heard of Astori he seems to fit the bill as to a quality player who is realistic in a position we need to strengthen in. Thomas Ince would be a quality signing too. Well, if they are after these 60million quid strikers like Falcao why would it be unrealistic?
Smirking_Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Hmm One of; Benteke Ince Richards (uninspiring ? What planet are you on ?)
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Well, if they are after these 60million quid strikers like Falcao why would it be unrealistic? I knew someone would say this.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Mystic Turkish, he always knows what other posters will say.
SuperSAINT Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The OP's nipper isn't far wrong re: Remy. He'd be fantastic (But out of our wage bracket). I don't know enough about Astori to warrant picking him. (But certainly a quality centre-back is a must). I'd go for Thomas Ince. Young, hungry, English & suits our system perfectly. 18 goals / 14 assists this season.
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 You don't have to be a mystic. Just have an understanding on the ever increasing levels of delusion on here.

All we needed was 'guaranteed to improve' and we'd have a full house in saintsweb signing bingo.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 We may well break our transfer record but our wage structure will stop us going for established superstars. I dont have a problem with that as there is enough talent out there with out paying stupid wages. Pretty confident Astori will sign, the only issue is that Calgary president is banged up so Nic may have to speed up his negotiation tactics during the prison visits:)
Webby Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The only thing with Astori is that he's left footed. Isn't Forren left footed too?
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 You don't have to be a mystic. Just have an understanding on the ever increasing levels of delusion on here. Don't spoil the illusion. Never let them see behind the curtain Turks, never.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The only thing with Astori is that he's left footed. Isn't Forren left footed too? Yeah but Forren is in training for Mr Universe at the moment.
dubai_phil Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The only thing with Astori is that he's left footed. Isn't Forren left footed too? Yeah but the experts on here have decided he is rubbish and slow and not worthy of wearing the Shirt.
rshephard3 Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 How about trying to snatch Younes Kaboul from Spurs. Still only 27 and Spurs possibly ready to cash in on him now. Also Lewandowski would be a great backup to Sir Rickie Lambert don't you all agree?
Tokyo-Saint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 What is it about Remy people like? A few good goals in a very short period of form? Plenty of strikers have good initial form, he hasn't been spectacular and there must be a reason he ended up at a nearly relegated already QPR? I don't trust any players who chose to join that mess of a club to be honest. Just overpaid mercenary lazy fcks right through the squad. He is pacey and direct with a good eye for goal. He won't sign for us though so don't worry about it.
SuperMikey Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The only thing I want is for Bearsy to start posting again
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 I like Patrick Herrmann at Gladbach. Realistic? Probably not. But, what's the point in realistic dreams?

All moose and no trousers.

Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Benteke? What planet are you on? Who are the current top prospects in Scandinavia Torre? We usually did well with players from there.
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The only thing with Astori is that he's left footed. Isn't Forren left footed too? So what? There seems to be be this myth going round about this that Adkins started that you need to have one right and one left footed centre Halves. Vidic and Ferdinand are both right footed and them seem to cope!
rshephard3 Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Maksimovi%C4%87 Serbian youngster, 6ft 4", similar style to Vidic. More caps for the national team than he got for under 21's so clearly progressing quickly right now. Surely he'd prefer Bassett to Belgrade (he says having never been to Belgrade).

I hope we're scouting over there, some top defenders coming out of the area these days and available relatively cheaply. Vidic only cost £7m and Nastasic only cost Fiorentina £2.5m 2 yrs ago! PhilippineSaint Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 The only thing I want is for Bearsy to start posting again He's been neutered If he does come back he will have lost just a little important piece of himself so you may not recognise him
Webby Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 So what? There seems to be be this myth going round about this that Adkins started that you need to have one right and one left footed centre Halves. Vidic and Ferdinand are both right footed and them seem to cope! Well you may be right. Anyway, whatever happened to two footed footballers? It drives me crazy when players tackle with their preferred foot even when it's clearly on the wrong side.
Baldbarbarian Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Benteke would be great, could be a long term successor to SRL.
notnowcato Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Frank Lampard - just for the season. The guy is as fit as most, fairly injury free and would be a huge improvement on Steven Davis - and I like Davis.
corky morris Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 FIrstly if I could get our money back on Gaston I would. I would then re-assign that to trying to get Lescott & Sinclair from Man City & then a quick centre half.......Not many around though!!
notnowcato Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Benteke would be great, could be a long term successor to SRL. Not sure there is much cross over between SRL and Benteke. Good player that he is, I see Benteke as more Jay than Rickie.

For a night out Belgrade beats Bassett hands down
Batman Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 Not sure there is much cross over between SRL and Benteke. Good player that he is, I see Benteke as more Jay than Rickie. you hardly ever see benteke running at pace with the ball taking on defenders, not too sure why you would say that? on monday night, benteke dropped deep plenty of times to win the ball and lay it off
Doctoroncall Posted 1 May, 2013 Posted 1 May, 2013 He is pacey and direct with a good eye for goal. He won't sign for us though so don't worry about it. Thanks Toks, I feel better with your guarantee, as I too don't think he has the right character to be a Saint.
