the BBC site is carrying a story that CB Alex Pearce OOC at Reading this season ...has refused a new contract ....and may move to Liverpool ?

......didn't he come as a loan-player for us a while back ..what was he like then ? ..Anyone...

He was decent for a young Championship centre-back learning his trade but I've seen nothing from him in the last year that suggests he's anything better than that. Brendan Rodgers obviously worked with him for a while when he was (briefly) Reading manager so knows him from there, but he's hardly the signing that's going to turn Liverpool into a genuine contender to qualify for the Champions League.

The Reading and someone else fans at work think he's their best defender, but that's hardly saying much. Not seen anything to suggest he's better than a championship player.

Strange signing for Liverpool as he's nothing more than capable in this division. May be better than Coates, but Coates is shocking so that's no great achievement.

He is an appalling ball player who is only good at massive long headed clearances and there is no conceivable way he is signing for a side that shipped Andy Carroll out on loan because he didn't meet their precious ball-playing needs.

Basically found his level when hoofing headers away for Reading last season, utterly out of his depth in the Prem with the midget Mariappa preferred to him and probably isn't in Adkins' plans. Pretty slow too, though very committed to the challenge.

He was "solid" for Saints whilst falling down the leagues but we were pretty desperate for central defenders that season.

S'alright, if Liverpool go for Alex Pearce we can try and get Danny Wilson from them - would be ferking quality for us.

Would be good back up to Pochettino as manager, free agent too now he's left Sheff United.

This is the same Alex Pearce who told me how much Adkins was not going to last at SFC and was disliked by many.

i can't be arsed to find the thread I started on the matter.....it was met with the usual derision on here.

He's ok. Not great. Surprised Liverpool are interested, but wouldn't be awful backup I guess?

Seems to have been pretty awful backup at Reading, they got relegated. ;)

Bizarre that viewing that thread in isolation with the benefit of hindsight, you, BlakeySFC and shurlock would seem to be credible, and most others (inc Colinjb) would seem to be clueless.

Just goes to prove the theory about stopped clocks being right twice a day.

All of the posters who revealed there were rifts in the camp were met with howls of derision and shouted down. It didn't make hem wrong though.

That thread was a classic; plenty of buffoons getting on their high horses about information they just didn't like, and desperately didn't want to be true. So instead of actually acknowledging the information being passed on, they attacked the poster; top work fellas. Poor old Jimmy D got so upset about lard stamping on people's dreams that he shut the thread down; bless.

I was shocked at that, it was completely out of character.

1. Lard had been banging on his anti-Adkins crap the whole time he was here and had been proved so wrong about Adkins, it's ridiculous

2. Adkins eventually went 7 months after the OP so hardly evidence that what he said was true. If he hadn't been such a **** for two years prior, more people may hav believed him.

And RdM was apparently being sounded out from the summer; I've since heard this from multiple sources. Lard was and is a goon; but in this instance was just passing on some information. Perhaps a lesson that, even from goons, news like that shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. I'm sure we've all done it Dog Dog; you live, you learn. And I don't class you as one of the buffoon brigade, I'm sure you were just having an off day....

Well. Seeing as i'm just a fan with an opinion...

Phew, managed to get away with not being involved in that.

Even if it was or wasnt true, I still dont necessarily believe that conversation ever made sense. But there you go, Lard hated Adkins almost as much as Roger loves Lambert. Its sort of similar to Alps, eventually when we are relegated Ill expect he will pop up and say I told you so.

I did not hate Adkins,I just wanted what was best for saints...in the long term,I knew he was not going to be here in the long term.

i cannot hate someone I don't personally know.....hearing things I did helped me form an opinion of the man,he didnt help himself at times.....this was all confirmed by a chance meeting with Pearce.

which in turn made me dig my heels in and oppose all the people that so staunchly defend every decision, every soundbite.

He could do no wrong, according to so many....I thank him for what he did during his tenure,I sincerely mean that....but he made an awful lot of mistakes, both on the field and behind the scenes.

which in my view would have undone the work he did,and other that had put so much effort in getting us on our feet and on the up.

Onto Alex Pearce....don't touch him with a barge pole.

i can live with being a 'goon'.....if I stick to my principles.

Strange one. Can't say I know much about his Reading performances but Liverpool clearly see something. I've been more impressed with Sean Morrison in Reading's defence, I think he'll be a decent player.

What an utterly ironic post when in your second post on that thread you said that you didn't believe Pearce either.

Hate may be a strong word, but you certainly never liked him and you have always seemed to be fixated on slagging him off. Even now he is gone 90% of your posts on here are to do with him.

This was my favourite thread of yours: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?31648-Apprehension-for-the-coming-season&highlight=Adkins

I personally didn't think he would have been privy to the goings on at SFC,especially the in depth knowledge he seemed to have...he had quite an audience, quite an opportunity to slightly over exaggerate.

I'm glad you like my posts/threads.......you have always contributed greatly.
