F**k off, Wenger

Young,French and from Southampton, these are some of the things on Wengers checklist for sure

It really does seem inevitable that he will end up at Arsenal at some point, but £10 mill is laughable what did Oxo go for £15m??

I would imagine Cortese would be looking £20m +

Morgan seems a loyal player and I hope he stays,Captain next season maybe?

I remember when we signed him there was all that speculation that Lowe did some sort of deal which would lead eventually to him going to Arsenal. I just hope the 10m is not some sort of pre-agreed cap, if this is true. It sounds like a Lowe trick to keep the initial fee to us down.

Anyhow, hopefully PSG will prise Wenger away from Arsenal........

Unsurprising, they've been watching him on and off all season. Steve Rowley has been a regular at our games. However the Arse need to worry more about keeping hold of Wenger than filching our players. PSG want him to replace Ancelotti who'll go to Madrid to replace Mourinho who'll go to Chelsea if you can follow all that.

Best bit is how there is no mention of that contract he signed a few weeks ago.

He won't be going anywhere. And not for 10m!

contracts mean nothing, that's why there are hundreds of millions of transfer fees each season. They give security to the player and in the worst case scenario financial recompense to the club. Look at some of the fairly recent transfers of young players, was Gaston out of contract or Phil Jones or Sturridge or Joe Allen ? no they were all on fairly recent contracts. Morgan's future with us will be decided on his desire to play for France at next season's WC. Deschamps is ignoring him, if he doesn't get a (surprise) call up for this summer's S Am tour then his chances for 2014 are shot unless he moves to Utd,PSG,Arsenal,Lyon or perhaps Tottenham.

I know for a fact that Rowley and no doubt Wenger have been watching him often enough so if Arse make an offer that NC doesn't feel inclined to refuse then Morgan may well move on.

People are going to have a long stressy summer, if articles like this wind them up. We have a number of players that will court a lot of attention for this next transfer window and Morgan is most certainly one of them. The idea of us not being a selling club is stupid. We may not need to sell our best players as much as we did in times gone by, but with the possible exception of Lallana, if the any of the top four / five want one of our players and those players want to go, the likehood is they will get them......Sure there might be a bit more posturing, but that is all it is. To progress next season, as well as bringing in new / better players, our biggest single challenge, will be to hold on the young promising players that have shone this season......And I guarantee that we will have casualties.

Apart from this bit?

The Gunners are preparing a £10million bid for the Frenchman who signed a new Saints contract in February.

contracts mean nothing - it depends mainly on how much Morgan wants to go to any interested club - we all need to be realistic - if Arsenal come calling for him with the chance of champions league football - and a better chance of playing for his country - he may well be tempted.

if he is determined to go - saints will then have to negotiate as high a fee as possible - or very unlikley - keeping him against his will.

This is how it goes - Man UTD had to sell Ronaldo , arsenal had to sell RVP, and we may lose some of our better players this summer....

Then again how do we know that he doesn't have a buy out threshhold in his contract. They seem to be pretty standard in most football player contracts these day. Used to be the totality of the contract, so 4 years at say what 35K a week that makes somewhere around 8 million plus a penalty clause, 10/12 million tops then.

We dont tend to have them so much over here, I think they are a bit of a muchness on the continent though.

You never know, it couldbe in there, but I doubt it. It depends really just how much the Arse want him and NC doesnt want to sell. Personally Id like to grab 20m for him but the Ox vs Morgan comparison is shot because Ox is English and so you pay a premium.

Id expect him to go for around 15m though, if we really dig in. All for me depends on IF Arsenal get into tge CL and in what positions they want to strengthen.

Personally I see Song going back there.

I don't think it just being English that sets the premium, I think it is the 'home grown' tag; which Morgan carries.

He's not going anywhere. Don't you think they discuss this in contract talks?

NC: "Morgan, you're a great player, getting better all the time, and you can grow with Southampton FC, as Southampton FC will grow with you. Big clubs will want you in their team. They will make offers, and I will turn them down. Now, here's a 5 year contract, sign here please."

pedantic I know but it wasn't a 5 year contract. It will be about international football and nothing else if Morgan goes. Deschamps could help us out but as he's a knob I'm not counting on it. He was at the Emirates on Sunday, wasn't at SMS on Saturday. Did our players have Sunday off ?

Ah, ok, I thought it was 5.

What do you mean by the bit I've made bold?

Anyway, CL means more to players now than international football, so I don't think that will be the issue.

he might have gone to the Emirates to meet DD and his people if they'd shown any sort of interest in him of late. Morgan is very attached to the idea of playing for France at every level and the idea of the 2014 WC is important to him, said so to several french journalists, feels he's being passed over. CL and international football, for Deschamps the 2 are interlinked.

Isn't this the price the sun quoted at christmas??

Seems to me they are just trotting out the same story to look in the know about the details of Wengers imaginary chest that never is opened or used or spent properly, especially as they clearly have needed to replace Diaby for about 4 years now seeing as he's played 16 times in those 4 years before getting another injury....

Taking it as a non story.

Best line of it as well

“But I was the one responsible for the club going down. With the club having paid big money for me, I couldn’t come here for a year and then leave like nothing had happened. I wouldn’t be able to look myself in the mirror."

The one thing I gleaned from the Morgan interview was that he was much more satisfied having earned the promotions from League 1 rather than moving straight to the EPL.

Anyone , a la Carroll, can move from a lower team to a toppish team but where's the sense of achievement. With what NC has in mind for the club I think Morgan will stay with Saints and earn what he gets.

This, hope to god he stays; but if he wants to go, there's not much we can do about it.

Just hope that if he does want to go, he does what Crouch did - shut his mouth, don't talk up a move elsewhere and allow us to get as much money for him as possible.

Might not even be about wanting to go, but a performance like ours on Saturday can leave an ambitious player in 2 minds if there's a realisitc offer. If we are going to give ourself the wherewithal to really back up our sound bites (CL,Top 6 etc etc) then staying is probably the favoured choice. If you're going to have to suffer from awful performances like Jos and Fox last week-end then you might well think wtf. Squad need boosting with real quality so that players don't have to play when they're 60/70 % fit.

It is beyond me as to why a cash-rich PSG would want Wenger when he hasn't won anything for so many years. They'd be better off sticking with Ancelotti.

it's Ancelotti who doesn't appear particulary keen on staying. Leonardo can be a bit difficult to deal with apparently. Then there are the Qataris. It seems to be one of these situations where the owners and the general manager buy who they want and the coach has to make what he can of it. Plus France isn't a great championship and anyone would jump ship if Real came calling.

Or.....

Contracts allow the club to dictate the fee. That is all a contract is nobchops. It'S NC saying "he is our player, pay me what I want or jog on"

Now can all the bed wetters get a grip. Can't take a summer of this ****e when the season hasn't even finished.

Bidding starts at £20m. Anything less no thanks.

I know we all think our wives are the best looking, but on this occasion ours really is. I don't see many central midfielders in the prem with his combination of strength, pace and ball control.

Straying slightly off topic...

Agreed. Which is why, and I say this with no great pleasure, we will NEVER be a Champions League club or indeed break into the top 6 IMO. All that talk last week really was ridiculous. I don't believe for a minute NC believes this to be true deep down anyway. He has one of the biggest ego's going seemingly but he must realise he cannot invent history, success, stature not to mention untold riches from thin air to compete with ManU, Arse, Spurs, City, Chelsea.

Having said all that and going back on topic... we are as guilty as the bigger clubs of poaching young players from clubs smaller than ourselves... food chain and all that I suppose.
