Seaford Saint Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 Too many donkeys in the squad and thats down to Adkins. No it's down to rising through the leagues so quickly....10 to 15 players will go this summer (provided we don't get relegated).
Lord Duckhunter Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 So you would prefer Saints to be 14th by the end of the evening rather than 13th? I would prefer to be safe as early as possible, how on earth does a villa win make us safer. Villa lose the next 2 and the only way we can go down is if Wigan win their next 3, one of which is arsenal away. The sooner Wigan or villa can't catch us the better. Hamilton Saint Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 So you would prefer Saints to be 14th by the end of the evening rather than 13th? Surely it's better for us to have Villa lose?! Better to have Wigan and Villa as far away from us as possible - until we pick up three points.
FloatingbridgeSaint Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 I'm hoping for a sunderland win to keep villa pinned down below us on 34pts & thus will require 2 wins from their last 3 games to overtake us. the fact that this remaining games are against Norwich, chelsea & wigan means this is unlikely. Even if sunderland move above us it will only be temporary if we start putting some more points on the board.
S-Clarke Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 I think it'll be a draw tonight. 3-3....can see goals, and a last minute equalizer. Although I've not decided which team scores it yet. If Villa win, Wigan, IMO...are all but gone. Too cut adrift, 4 games left, a cup final in the middle and without one of their best defenders for the remainder. Too much to do. If Sunderland win, then it's even better for us as Villa only have 3 games left to overtake us, and one of those is against Wigan and another against Chelsea. So it then becomes almost a certainty that we're safe for another year. We can kind of watch this game with no pressure on it, as either result doesn't really effect us. Not trying to sound full of it, but that's kind of the truth. We're safe either way.

I think Villa are generally ****, and players like Westwood and Baker shouldn't be playing at this level. However, in Gabby and Bentenke they have players who can and will score goals. I think that'll be enough for them. Wigan don't really have that. I think this is one too many relegation battles for Wigan, no special stars to drag them out of it this year. I don't think Agbonlahor has done anything decent in 3 years, Benteke I agree with, I'd say Weimann too, but Wigan have the experience of the pressure and Prem-experienced players all over. Villa have kids who will fold at don't have people to pull them around. Wigan's backlog is their biggest problem, they can write off Arsenal away 3 days after the cup final for a start, but I can see them beating Swansea (especially with the affection for Martinez at Swansea) and easily turning over Villa on the last day and I think that'll do for them, gives them an 80% chance of staying up. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/England/Wigan.html

I want Saints to remain in 13th tonight, not drop to 14th. It makes diddly squat difference to our chances overall, we're under 1% likely to go down no matter what the result tonight. I posted the impact on other sides on the "Are We Safe" thread and it just doesn't have any bearing on us. Aside from that, I also think we'll beat Sunderland up there, for no reason other than we'll know we have to perform and can't cruise it, and if we do perform we're a better side than Sunderland. Gary Neville has just done a nice illustration of the kind of basic errors Villa players make which cost them goals which is why they're going. They STILL defend like we did in the first 8 games. Bensfcno1 Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 Under Poch we have got an average of 1.3 points a game (GD 0) and under Adkins we had a point per game (GD -10). So if both managers took their average into all 35 games so far this season: Poch would be 9th on 45 points (three behind WBA), Adkins would be on 35 points (one above Villa and 3 above Wigan having played an extra game). So cant really compare their achievements in the premiership this season. Considering Adkins has had the bulk of this team for 1-2/3 years and had pre-season...... Although think we should be finishing higher than Sunderland, I hope they win tonight and go above us to keep distance between us and Villa. Hopefully Wigan and Villa end up fighting it out last game.

Adkins last 13 games up to his depature yielded 18 points.

The9 Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 Actually I can see Villa continuing to push players forward and getting done a couple of times on the break, they're nothing like good enough at the back to have a full back on the edge of the opposition area half of the time. Bucks Saint Posted 29 April, 2013 Share Posted 29 April, 2013 Really ? I think their support has been very average and not much different to ours. I have been to 4 games of theirs this season for various reasons and the support has been excellent. It has not wavered even when some of the on pitch peformances have been awful. Various commentators have said the same thing, including MOTD a few weeks back, drawing reference to Chelsea fans' negativity in comparison to Villa fans sticking with the manager and team 100%.
