pangy Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 The disappointing thing is before the red he skinned two players like they were not even there. I still think he has a lot to give, but he needs to have a look at himself for next season
Barry Sanchez Posted 28 April, 2013 Author Posted 28 April, 2013 I heard his best performance was whilst wearing a red and white top he played a blinder in the school nativity in 1995.......................................
CWD Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 Such an overreaction. Gaston has played well in the majority of the games he's played in. The problem is that (similar to Guly) he is given the license to try things that are a bit more risky. Naturally, these don't always come off, but some fans only remember when they don't. Every time he misplaces a pass people seem to be on his back quicker than you can say 'scapegoat'. Why not just get behind the lad and support him? How many of you moved to a foreign country at the age of 22 when you couldn't speak the language, and had the pressure of being worth £12m to your new employers? He'll come good.

He hasn't played well "in the majority of games he's played in" at all. He's flattered to deceive most games and been like a petulant child in others. We keep being told he'll come good, but I'm not convinced. Tim Vickery said all along that he wouldn't make it in England and after a season he looks right. Yesterday summed him up perfectly. A few decent touches here and there, wayward shot, shiete delivery from corner, giving the ball away and then acting like a baby because another player had the check the chase him back and hassle him/foul him.

Man up and stop making excuses for him, he could have the decency to be fit as well, he has had 8 months to last 90 mins. Nice one. One example of one player that is younger and doing better is the big proof.... FFS every player older than Messi should quit, they´re useless.... No one is making excuses, just that people with different opinion than yours have more patience and probably understand that it take times for some players to come great. Like Henry, Bergkamp and a lot more. You know what MLT did his first year in the league. 24 apps, 6 goals......not far off that for Gaston.

He has been awful, lets move on, why did we buy him? So he could settle in for a year and see if he likes it? You are making excuses, he has been crap and if he did not cost so much he would of been dropped a long long time ago, Corteses plaything and signing as well.

He hasn´t been awful, he´s been inconsistent but great some games, bad in some others. Definitely worth his place in the lineup and squad every week. I know you cant see it cause you look at football with a Terry-Hurlock-type-of-football-view so you´re forgiven for that.

Your little caveat, or squad ha ha! He has been crap in the main and keeping him in the 1st team is not justified for what he has done and neither for what he may do. If he is so good why does he only last 2/3 of a game? Playing crap or unfit?
The Kraken Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 Nice one. One example of one player that is younger and doing better is the big proof.... Like Henry, Bergkamp and a lot more. You know what MLT did his first year in the league. 24 apps, 6 goals......not far off that for Gaston. These analogies are really not being thought through properly. First off; where has this notion that Bergkamp was a failure in his early Arsenal years come from? He scored 11 in 33 in his first season; and he was never noted for being an out and out striker, his game was much more than that. Scoring 1 in 3 is a perfectly adequate return; that season for Arsenal it was only bettered by one person, Ian Wright, with 15. Bergkamp's overall league record for Arsenal was 87 goals in 315 games; that's worse than the 1 in 3 average of his first season. If anything his first season was one of his most prolific. You mention Thierry Henry at Arsenal. Is this the same Thierry Henry who, in his debut season, played in every league game and scored 17 goals? Fair to assume that a lot of those goals would have been from the wing, too. So I don't think the Arsenal fans had to demonstrate too much patience there; Henry was clearly a cut above right from the very off. As for the analogy with MLT, that's perhaps the most pointless one. Gaston Ramirez is not in his first full season; he has been playing professional football since 2008 and he is 22 years old. Le Tissier was 18 years old in his debut season. More to the point, he was a youth team graduate with little expectation on his shoulders. Like it or not, someone decided that Ramirez was worth spending a massive club record £12M on, and again, like it or not that figure will be used as a benchmark of his performances. With good and bad analogies alike.

You cant say Davis, Lallana, Puncheon cause they´re in there.....football these days are a squad game and we have been rotating the lineup.... For me most of the times a tactical decision since we´ve often been leading the games when he´s been taken off the pitch.

Only thing I´m pointing out is that he came good after a couple of years and that people showed patience.

Has it crap, he has been taken off as he is unfit, he cant last a full 90 and even then in the main he has been woeful to mediocre, how many motm has he won this year? In the midfield Cork Puncheon Schneiderlin Davis Lallana Ward-Prowse And the Gash.
The Kraken Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 MLT. 2nd year, 19 apps, 0 goals. 3rd year, 28 apps, 9 goals. Only thing I´m pointing out is that he came good after a couple of years and that people showed patience. And he was a youth team graduate. Chris Nichol barely played him in his development; he had little expectation on him. If you're suggesting we should take the same approach, and more often than not rest a £12M signing I'm going to have to disagree. This season is over for Ramirez; lets see what he can do with a decent pre-season behind him. But he has got an awful lot to prove given his season. Coutinho has shown the level of impact that you might expect from a £10M ish foreign signing, so its not always the case that young foreigners need to be shown patience. At 17 Luke Shaw doesn't need a great deal of patience with his own performances. Ramirez may yet come good, and I still think he might with us. We'll see. But IMO he has significantly under-performed this season, and I expected more.

Barry Sanchez Posted 28 April, 2013 Author Posted 28 April, 2013 I am saying he can play in the midfield, does Ramirez deserve his place, or did? No he did not, his price tag determined he got a place and also seeing as Cortese played a prominent role in getting him here it would look bad on all concerned. How many motm has he won this season?
ibizasaint Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 Some of our fans only sing when we are losing... i cant comment on Gaston really as i havent seen him play live so rely on people who actually go for feedback, but come on lads he is one of us. He has chipped in with goals this season and some assists so he hasnt been completely ****e. Def worth sticking with him next season to see if he can do better.

So when you´re asked of who you think you should play instead of Gaston you choose someone you dont think is better, but just because "he can play in midfield".... Strange, very strange. Motm where......... On this board? Choice by game sponsors? Your choice? My choice? Would think that Aston Villa and Newcastle home is at least two. Could also say Everton home and Norwich away.

Olallana Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 Norwich away? Are smokin de pipe? Not at all. If you have Saints Player you can watch it again and see that he´s involved in pretty much every decent attack we had including he had our best finish on goal.

Hamilton Saint Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 This is one for the lovers of his pure game, where do you think he has shone? The wilds of Manchester or the plains of Norwich? Whats your greatest five 90 mins games of Gaston's illustrious Southampton career? So what exactly is your motivation here? Why do you use the term "Gashton"? Why does your post reek of smart-aleck sarcasm? Does it make you feel better to ridicule the Saints player who is currently not doing as well as hoped? Is he your latest scapegoat? Are you a bully, who likes to deride people who don't meet your exacting demands? Is this the way a Saints fan supports the team? Do you feel better after putting other people down? Do you think kicking people when they are down is more effective than giving them an encouraging word? Why are you so negative?
Ally Biggs Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 I think he is a classy player who just needs more time to adjust. Watch his Italian league videos and You will see what he is capable of. He does need to become more of a team player though And work on his set pieces. Keep him at saints and bring in some more continental Talent who can get the best out of him

Mr X Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 How is it clear exactly? his body language and demeanor, 8 out of ten games he looks completed uninterested we do see glimpses but thats about it, he has stated that money was the deciding factor and that we weren't his first choice. Personally i think most people issues stem from the price we paid and who exactly targeted him in the first place was it totally cortese?
Restark19 Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 Sorry what was the score? I believe your lot lost 3-2 to Shrewsbury. HTH.

Barry you love he sound of your own voice (post) don't you? I think everyone knows you are gleefully enjoying Gaston struggling and using this a way of sounding off! I hate the way idiots like you keep on and really believe they are experts. Depressing!! I will trust the manager with Gaston, he is obviously extremely talented but something is wrong so let's wait and see what happens. If MP can sort things out we will have a superstar player if not.......?
Kingsland Red Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 As the man is good for 55 minutes, I reserve judgement until the club has got him 95 minutes fit.
kpturner Posted 28 April, 2013 Posted 28 April, 2013 his body language and demeanor, 8 out of ten games he looks completed uninterested I really do not think that is true tbh
Barry Sanchez Posted 28 April, 2013 Author Posted 28 April, 2013 The least he could do is get fit enough to last the 90 mins. Why did he come here? He looks half cut or half interested. He does not look anywhere near worth £12Million , would you pay that for him? Speculation buy and one we did not need, am I pleased I am correct? No not at all, I would rather be wrong but what I find amusing is people putting blind faith into something they cant control, just go on his performances and this season, he has been awful. Thats where I come to my conclusion, its hardly Sherlock or Mr Creek is it?

tajjuk Posted 29 April, 2013 Posted 29 April, 2013 Yawn, joke thread form a joke poster. How's your assessment of Boruc going Barry? Looking a million miles off like most of your other posts. I see the Coutinho comments pop up after he has a good game, the same Countiho who a few weeks ago was decidely average against us whilst Gaston was good very good against Liverpool. Funny the Coutinho comments weren't brought up then. I think Jordan Henderson had a good game as well so maybe we should sign him up, probably could get him at a snip aorund £20 million. Had gaston been brilliant? no, has he been anywhere near as bad as some people make out? not even close. Shocking that a 22 year old attacking mid in a new league has been inconsistent, I mean that's never happened before now has it. Gaston is the new scapegoat it seems now Guly doesn't play so often.
Barry Sanchez Posted 29 April, 2013 Author Posted 29 April, 2013 The Gash was £12 million though., why buy a luxury player who either can't last the full 90 as he is either lazy, unfit and not bothered or playing crap?
