Had a poor season. Looked decent when he came on at Reading, but doesn't justify his place at the moment. The Puncheon/Clyne partnership was working, we should keep it.

Thought much the same. Flat track bully, perhaps?

Posted

The captaincy has distracted him from his football.

Has tried to make something spectacular and as a consequence has had an underwhelming season. I for one expected more, putting this game aside where nothing or no-one worked. Too many twists and turns, most times creating good spaces to hand out a pass/cross/assistance or even try a shot, but instead has kept his head down and went for another flick, usually loosing possession. Hasn't even tried to shoot like he did last season, given his left peg is one of his main attributes doesn't help if he does not try a shot.

Flatters to deceive.

Lots of 'fancy dan' nifty footwork' , 'soft shoe shuffle' , call it what you will, but all too often no end product, often petering out as he tries a trick too far.

Most certainly not a captain or leader on the pitch.

Has Premier League quality but needs to influence games more and impress himself on them. All a part of the learning process for players in that part of the field. When you play in a position where the game comes to you it is easier than when you have to find a way to get involved in the game. Not entirely sure about him as Captain however definitely glad he is a part of our team and I would expect him to push on next season.

This seems to be a consistent hope for a few of our players.

Talk about writing him off! Everyone was awful today apart from Clyne. He hasn't had his best season but he still is a decent player for us. Sure he'll be improved come his second PL campaign.

FFS we lose a game and idiots are abusing our players . I'm glad you don't support Newcastle . Half their players would be hanging from a rope this evening

No I'm not judging Lallana on today but continual woeful performances. Last week was the same as was west ham.

Indeed. I bet the Newcastle mongboards are a picture of calm this evening.

Not sure if I've missed some posts, but where are the reports of players being abused?

No way. Poor what a shame.

Yeah, shame. Shame you think every player should just step up, especially after being out for so long.

Shame that he replaced Gaston at Reading and tore them apart.

He is talking about some idiots on here, guess you knew that and guess that makes you.....

Hasn't looked the same since his injury but I still love him and think a full pre-season and fully fit next season and he'll be flying again. Shouldn't be captain though.

With Ramirez suspended though, we're relying on Lallana for creativity for the rest of the season, so let's hope he comes good.

Bring back Puncheon...FFS

If you could sum up the fickleness of saints fans in a Lallana thread in just a few words this is probably it :)

Posted

No he hasn't....he's also the strangest choice of captain I can remember.

I took a lot of stick earlier in the season for saying that Puncheon would have a better season than Lallana.

Posted
Puncheon has been consistently far better than Lallana. If I were Jason I'd be absolutely gutted to be sat on the bench.

The best line-up, when we played the best looking football, has Puncheon and Clyne on one side and Shaw and Lallana on the other, in my book.

I have always been a fan of both players.......

Agree that there are times when both should be playing in the side ..

Other times the timing of the substitution on or off re these two players...in recent weeks was crucial..and did not happen in the best interest of the side or game plan..

As stated ..a good pre season for Lallana and we will see the old star quality shine through..

Very frustrated for Punch and the Saints as I strongly believe that he could have given us sooooo much more in this part of the season...

But I agree...like many fans on this forum and at St Marys........I can be as fickle as anyone...WHY i am a supporter without a clue

and why Poch is the Manager/Coach...

AND you Mowgli are THE expert of all experts.....:p

Certainly not making messi look rubbish.

The funny thing is I invited you to comment re this player after he scored a fine goal at Reading and you declined the opportunity for some reason. I must admit I found this rather odd as you seldom seem short of a opinion on him. However as soon as a thread criticising him appears ... well you're all over it like a rash.

For what's worth I didn't think he was any worse than the rest of our (desperately under-performing) squad yesterday and (despite being asked to play on the right) he still managed to produce more than a few moments of superb close control and intelligent forward play that the more observant among us have long admired.

So in summery then: a good player having a bit of a 'so-so' season.

Wonder what his thoughts would be regarding Lamberts performances recently.

It really is one of my pet hates debating with someone who refuses to see either side in an arguement

Lol. I wasn't disagreeing with you. It's just the sheer irony!

he was voted second by the managers association in the young player of the season category. I think he's played pretty well actually, we miss his creativity alot when he doesn't play. Bizzare reaction from people saying 'no way' and 'lightweight'

Posted

Been a bit unremarkable, pedestrian and, er, crap for much of the season tbh. Hopefully it's a question of adjusting to the prem and he'll come good next season.

Posted

Bit hit and miss, but if we're giving Ramirez a chance to improve then we ****ing well owe it to Lallana to give him the same.

As the season has gone on I've been less and less convinced that Lallana should be in our starting 11. A decent sub to bring on and mix it up a bit, like he did at Reading but there have been a lot of games when he has been a complete passenger. Worryingly it's not just a temporary thing or a recent drop in form, his whole season is peppered with none-performances.

Not always bad, far from it, but he will have to deliver on a much more consistent basis to convince me he is a Premier League player.

I'm not even sure what his best position is any more. I don't think it's playing out wide; his lack of pace seems to get more exposed at this level. And our team isn't really set up to have a "number 10", which would seem ideal, as we also have JRod and Ramirez to contend with.

I just don't think he's solid enough for this division. Does good things but usually ends up on the deck or loses the ball after a virulent challenge. Gaston rides those, Lallana needs to do the same. Impact sub next season methinks.

He's been something of a flat track bully. Looked really good against Reading when he came on, and in sporadic games has looked real class. But for the most part, as you say he gets too easily bullied out of it and his skill on the ball hasn't shone through anywhere near as much as it did in the lower leagues.

In any case, I think our team is crying out for a properly pacy wide player, our wide midfield options are currently too similar.
