ALWAYS_SFC Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 I await Dalek predicting a massive thrashing by stoke to send us down After Wigan beat Arsenal and villa
Matthew Le God Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 (edited) Yep; safe now. Cannot be relegated. Technically we could if ALL of these happen... - Wigan beat Arsenal away - Wigan beat Villa home - Sunderland get at least a point away at Tottenham - Fulham get at least a point away at Swansea - Southampton lose to Stoke PLUS Southampton lose a 11 goal advantage in goal difference! Are any of the pessimists still going to maintain we will go down? Edited 12 May, 2013 by Matthew Le God
RobM Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 I await Dalek predicting a massive thrashing by stoke to send us down After Wigan beat Arsenal and villa It's the only way Dalek's 'YoYo' club prediction can be right. It's either stick to your guns or eat humble pie.
Window Cleaner Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 if Wigan win both their games, that'll mean Villa lose and they'll go down. We're mathematically safe the pantswetters will be on in a minute saying we're sure to lose at least 13-0 at home to Stoke
Colinjb Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Given our goal diff and the fact the Villa play Wigan on last day I think we are now safe ? Is that right - unless our goal diff gets battered at some stage? We would need Villa to lose against Wigan but only just, and for us to lose by at least 0-13 at home to Stoke. SAFETY!!!!!!
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Technically we could if ALL of these happen... - Wigan beat Arsenal away - Wigan beat Villa home - Sunderland get at least a point away at Sunderland - Fulham get at least a point away at Swansea - Southampton lose to Stoke PLUS Southampton lose a 12 goal advantage in goal difference! Are any of the pessimists still going to maintain we will go down? When Sunderland play Sunderland away, I reckon there's a good chance of one of them teams throwing the result.

Is that right - unless our goal diff gets battered at some stage? We could technically get relegated I think, but it is a very remote possibility. It will be interesting to see if Wigan go for it on Tuesday or whether they will concede. If they go down I am more than delighted that they take the Cup as a reward for their persistence and spirit.
musesaint Posted 12 May, 2013 Author Posted 12 May, 2013 Safffffffffffffffffffffffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! Baring a 10 goal thrashing next week

So, how does it feel to be wrong, again? Pretty good i'm guessing?
the colonel Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 We are now safe. Because if wigan win both that means villa lose and they are currently below us
mcjwills Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 the pantswetters will be on in a minute saying we're sure to lose at least 13-0 at home to Stoke Come on you know that Stoke are famous for their 13-0 away victories, get loads of them
Dalek2003 Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 So, how does it feel to be wrong, again? Pretty good i'm guessing? I am delighted ! Don't ever dare say I wanted us to go down.
RedWillie Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Will somebody tell the Solent guys to do the maths ! They still don't get it COYR !
scotty Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Come on you know that Stoke are famous for their 13-0 away victories, get loads of them "Pulisball", as the stokies call it

Are any of the pessimists still going to maintain we will go down? I don't think Sunderland have got Sunderland away on their last game, have they? Only you would go to such efforts of pedantry for that, though.
Colinjb Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 I am delighted ! Don't ever dare say I wanted us to go down. You will never be taken seriously again (as though there was a risk of that anyway....)..... enjoy!

Are any of the pessimists still going to maintain we will go down? This is wrong (ignoring the Sundertwice typo), Wigan's goal difference to us is irrelevant as they can't finish on the same number of points as us, it's Villa's goal difference which makes us safe (barring them losing to Wigan by 11 goals fewer than we lose to Stoke). Edited 12 May, 2013 by The9 Checked goals scored.
badgerx16 Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 There's still a good possibility that we'll finish 11th. If we beat Stoke and Newcastle & Norwich both fail to win, ( if Reading could also beat WHU we'd finish 10th ).
SaintBobby Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 To be clear, the only way we can now be relegated is if we lose by 12 goals or more against Stoke and Wigan win their two remaining games. (It is not a swing on goals. if we lose 6-0 to Stoke and Villa lose 6-0 to Wigan, we still stay up).
The9 Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 By the way, we can still come 10th if we win, West Ham lose, Fulham don't win by 2 goals more than us, and Newcastle and Norwich don't win.

Dellman Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 It's amazing that goal difference is in our favour after the way the season began!
Dalek2003 Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 You will never be taken seriously again (as though there was a risk of that anyway....)..... enjoy! I don't care tbh. People are entitled to their opinion.
S-Clarke Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 It's amazing that goal difference is in our favour after the way the season began! Totally, another thing which demonstrates just how good we have been since November.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Yes barring a virtually impossible GD swing (one that's not even worth worrying about) we are now safe. My congratulations to our Owners, Chairman, Manager, and most of all a fine bunch of players. Remembering the dire situation we were in after ten games this has been a fine achievement. Looking forward to 13/14 already.

trousers Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 I don't care tbh. People are entitled to their opinion. "There will be an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale in Southampton tomorrow." Opinion or a slight loss of sanity?
Jimmy_D Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 It's still a mad mad season where with one game remaining, we can finish anywhere from 10th to 18th. (OK, OK, but even 10th - 17th realistically is a huge range with one game left.)
SNSUN Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 (edited) As it turns out it is Sunderland that will have fishy pants this week if Wigan thrash Arsenal. A Wigan/Villa draw and it's Sunderland that will be going down. Edited 12 May, 2013 by SNSUN just second glanced at the GD
Window Cleaner Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 We are safe. Time to close this thread Noooooooooo, the bookies must be offering really good odds by now.
Window Cleaner Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 As it turns out it is Sunderland that will have fishy pants this week if Wigan beat Arsenal. A Wigan/Villa draw and it's Sunderland that will be going down. don't think so, Sunderland's GD is vastly superior to Wigan's
SNSUN Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 don't think so, Sunderland's GD is vastly superior to Wigan's Yep, just noticed. Changed "beat" to "thrash"! Still two Wigan wins, which still won't happen, and Sunderland could be toast. They were safe before Puncheon's goal too.
The9 Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 I've just sodded about with the Predictor to test some GD theories and it seems to think we need to lose by 13 (or at least 12 more than Villa lose by). Dunno if it considers Goals Scored though - and also, if we're talking about losing by 13 at home, why shouldn't Fulham lose by 11 at Swansea too ?
SaintBobby Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Noooooooooo, the bookies must be offering really good odds by now. You can get 712/1 on betfair. Don;t think anyone else is quoting odds. It's still a waste of money, just as 100/1 was.
musesaint Posted 12 May, 2013 Author Posted 12 May, 2013 We are safe - totally safe If we ship enough goals next week to go down - we deserve to .... and even Jos can't score that many own goals!
stknowle Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 We are now safe. Because if wigan win both that means villa lose and they are currently below us Safe or MATHEMATICALLY safe? Can someone please clarify _ can Southampton football club get relegated this season OR NOT you old****c!!??
Window Cleaner Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Safe or MATHEMATICALLY safe? Can someone please clarify _ can Southampton football club get relegated this season OR NOT you old****c!!?? yes if the following all happen Wigan win twice and Sunderland win as well. Fulham would need not to lose by a cricket score less than 11 or 10 if they score twice. If Wigan beat Villa by a single goal but Villa score 4 or more we could in theory go down by losing 12-0 at home to Stoke.
SaintBobby Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 Safe or MATHEMATICALLY safe? Can someone please clarify _ can Southampton football club get relegated this season OR NOT you old****c!!?? We can go down if we lose by 12-0 or more to Stoke, Wigan beat Arsenal and Villa and Sunderland don't lose away to Spurs. The chance of this happening is less than St. Mary's being nuked in the next 7 days or the club being liquidated or kicked out of the league for some reason or other. If you're worried about how or why Saints won't be in the Premier League next season, the league table should not be your biggest concern.
Dr Who? Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 We can, but we will have to lose 12-0 next weekend, and Sunderland, and Fulham would have to win.... Oh and Wigan! So yes we are safe! We will be safe on Tuesday as will everyone else, as Wigan will be relegated.

Oh of course as we will drop below Fulham and Sunderland on goal difference after our 12-0 defeat!
saint si Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 It's 13-0 (at least) as villa have to lose to wigan.
SaintBobby Posted 12 May, 2013 Posted 12 May, 2013 It's 13-0 (at least) as villa have to lose to wigan. It's potentially only 12-0, if Villa lose 5-4 or 6-5 or something mental. But this is so far off into la-la land that it's really not worth considering.

Can someone please clarify _ can Southampton football club get relegated this season OR NOT you old****c!!?? we are safe....Wigan's last game is against Villa, so even if Wigan win that and beat Arsenal, Villa will still be below us.....we cannot go down
