NickG Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 No one believed me when I said we were going down. Now some people are suddenly realising we are not the 'Messiah's of Football' that we thought we were and sun does not shine out of Cortese's arse. Wow, we lost 1-0 with late goal to team who have also beaten Man C, Arsenal, Villa, Newcastle, QPR, WHU, Liverpool, Swansea, Reading. You are almost always wrong, add relegation prediction to your failures.

SaintBobby Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 If Wigan beat Swansea, and I think they will, there is no way 39 points will be enough to keep us up. Really? If Norwich or Newcastle get zero or one points from their last 2 games, then 39 would still be enough. Also, even if Wigan do beat Swansea (which I'd say is about 50-50), they'd still need to get two points off Arsenal and Villa. So, there really are quite a few ways in which 39 is enough. Dalek2003 Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 So, to be clear, you think that if Saints were to finish on 40 points, we'd be relegated? Maybe relegated on 40, safe 41, def relegated on

Although for me Norwich vs WBA is almost as big as any Wigan game as Norwich go to Man City on the final day. I think two points would see us home, possibly one but agree 39 will see someone go down - although our GD helps.
modern matron Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Do the predictor and you can make anything happen! However it seems to me we have possibly the easiest on paper of everyone - definitely if Stoke win on Monday plus our GD will help! Norwich and Sunderland must be ****ting themselves, and Newcastle must win at QPR with the pressure on. We will have 2 good chances of saving ourselves, others on paper only one, so hopefully we can do it and based on today we must be in with a good chance of doing it. Saints Warrior Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Saints have gone from 100/1 to 14/1. I cant see Wigan losing to Swansea and Villa, Sunderland are a sure bet to beat Stoke and Norwich should beat WBA and last of all Newcastle cant fain to beat QPR That means Saints are in big trouble as Saints would need at least 1 win. Sunderland vs Saints will probably be a home win, so that leaves Saints vs Stoke, Stoke are route 1, hackers and likely to get one of our players sent off. It is highly unlikely we will not get a point, and Wigan or Villa win away to arsenal and Chelsea respectively, when they are after the champions league spot. If we do go down, it will be a terrible run of results for a team that is playing some great stuff, apart from WBA last week.

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Whilst we'd all like to think we'd be safe by now I still think we're in good shape, and I think the performances / results post-Reading have also shown up some real deficiencies in the make-up of the squad which may shape summer transfer activity. I wholly expected things to get a little worse heading into this weekend based on who we were playing and the points other teams could pick up. However come next Monday I expect us to be safe. obelisk Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Not sure if it's my in-built pessimism but there is a whole lot of wishful thinking going on. Yes, the odds are still on Saints staying up but just look at the current form. How many hours since we scored? Must be about 6. Wigan haven't rolled over for us and if they get 3 points on Tuesday panic stations will be sounding. There's a complacency in the air that is somewhat misplaced. the saint in winchester Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 I have never been comfortable with our points total, with the games we still had to play. Right now, Villa and Wigan are amassing the points, and we are left hoping Wigan drop points or one of the other teams (Sunderland, Norwich, to name 2) misfire from here on in. We need 5 points from 2 games, so in reality that is 6 - to win both - to stay up by our own actions. I'd be surprised if we win both, although not impossible, of course. We are relying on teams below us to drop points and for Saints to squeeze home. Squeaky bum time.

Kingsbridge Saint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Weekend results pretty much as I expected. Don't fancy our chances away at Sunderland - I reckon we'll need a point in the last game, and I think we'll get it at SMS against Stoke. Hardly safe as we sit here now, and that's the point really. Still likely to stay up - but not safe.
OttawaSaint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 I won't be happy if I am vindicated in what i have been saying for the last 4 weeks, just like I was vindicated when I said the failure to appoint Hoddle in 2004 would see us on a destiny to relegation. Suomi Saint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 On the basis that Newcastle will beat QPR, Sunderland will beat Stoke (and probably us), Norwich will beat West Brom, Wigan will beat Swansea and Villa, Villa will draw with Chelsea - I believe that we need one win in two games. I can see Fulham getting beaten twice, but they have 40 points and I wouldn't want it to go to goal difference. MP and the players have got us into this mess by concentrating more on Champions League rather than avoiding The Championship - it's now time for them to show their mettle. A good performance at Spurs - but that means naff all when you get beat. I couldn't sleep well last night because of worry - I hope the players tear into Sunderland and actually put the ball in the net.

Steeleye Saint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Spurs 1-0 Saints Villa 1-0 Sunderland Norwich 0-1 Villa WBA 0-1 Wigan Wigan 1-0 Swansea Sunderland 1-0 Southampton Norwich 1-0 WBA QPR 0-1 Newcastle Would mean last day Norwich 41 Newcastle 40 Sunderland 40 Villa 40 Saints 39 Wigan 38 Forget about the 1-0, but the results aren't that far fetched. If Wigan beat Villa last day and we will need a point home to Stoke. Ok, we'd have taken that in Oct, but not 3 games ago. People were saying these results were unlikely but the first four have now happened and the next four are very possible. Well as we played at Spurs I don't recall us troubling their keeper much - Rickie and Jay have been largely ineffective in the last three games - makes me wonder where the goals are going to come from for us to get the points we need. Stud mark of doom Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Can't see this update has been posted. This mathematical model says our chances of relegation have increases, as you'd expect, but only to 1.3% I suppose this is roughly consistent with the bookies when you add in their healthy profit margin. Suomi Saint Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 One thing is for certain - 39 points is not enough. The key match for me is Norwich v West Brom. If Norwich win that then we have to win one of the two remaining games. I fully expect Wigan, Newcastle, Sunderland to get at least 41. If we get 42 then we will be above at least one of them. We all know Wigan will survive - they are like a blood sucking vampire who refuses to die.....even when the stake is above the heart, the hammer is poised, and daylight is nearly upon us. Rebel Posted 5 May, 2013 Share Posted 5 May, 2013 Are we safe? No we're bl**dy not! Truth is the team that came out and failed to play against West Brom deserve to go down.
