Obviously back at start of November we would all have taken this situation we are now in. But after the Reading game I really expected us to push on to a mid-table finish. Instead we are lurking dangerously above the drop zone again
OttawaSaint Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 I am glad Darlek is happy. Will still take some doing to take us down and if it happens that what do you want us to do Darlek? Give you a medal? Engrave your name into some depressive's hall of fame? Have a praise Darlek thread? I just don't know what you expect to achieve by spamming the board, day in day out with the same diatribe. It's only ****ing football, we don't have an ounce of control over it, maybe you should write to all the players?

Wigan could easily get a draw at Arsenal and then beat Villa. Has the past two weeks not taught you anything? SaintBobby Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 The way it looks to me is that, even if we lose both games, Newcastle and Norwich need to get two points. One of them at least will probably fail to. Wigan need 5 points from 3 games - that's a tough ask. Additionally, I expect us to take between 2 and 4 points from the last two games. I'm still hoping we will be safe before kick off on the last day and think we will be.
obelisk Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 I'm still hoping we will be safe before kick off on the last dayMe too. Looks more and more likely that we won't be though. How many hours is that without scoring now? It's a bit of a worry and a the idea of a fraught St Mary's on the last day isn't very appealing. I can well imagine Crouch scoring a last minute winner to bring forth the tears.

Alternatively, if Wigan get a point or less in their games against Swansea and Arsenal, we're safe before the last game too.

Crab Lungs Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 It'll be between 6-7 teams on the final day I reckon, but we squeak home in a comfortable 11th/12th but with just two points difference between us and 18th. Done the predictor and had Norwich going down (draw at WBA, loss at City) with Newcastle staying up - despite having the same goal difference (not sure how it's worked out after goal difference, is it head-to-head?) Crab Lungs Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Goals scored I think, then head to head. Cheers. There was no definition of that on the predictor, so I was stumped! It'll be down to the last day though, I bloody know it. We'll need a point, I know it. I can see teams changing places in the league as the day unfolds so it should be quite exciting. Still, if Wigan and Villa are below us come the last day, we're safe, right? (that was the hypothesis of Paul Chuckle, who is far better at maths than me). That's what I have been saying. At this stage of the season clubs like Wigan playing for their lives against clubs like WBA, where the player is not going to put a foot in or his head where it hurts. Why spend the summer on the treatment table. Unfortunately our last two games are going to be against teams fighting for their lives. The Kraken Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Fine with me, but if I am right please at least have the grace to admit I was right. I will. So long as you'll have the grace to admit you were wrong. And do so as many times as you've spammed this board saying you're right. Although I don't think I've ever said we'd be safe on 39; just that we're safe. I can't us see us getting nothing from the next two games. And your 43 points assertion from earlier in the season, you can admit your wrongness about that one too if it comes to pass.
SaintBobby Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Fine with me, but if I am right please at least have the grace to admit I was right. You're already wrong that between 41 and 43 will be needed for safety. It remains very likely that 39 points and a good GD will be enough. Not certain, but very likely. Of course, the likelihood is that Saints will get something from the last two games anyway.

SaintBobby Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 Well, I certainly hope we don't have to put your '39 points will be safe' theory to the test. Well, obviously. Everyone on here hopes we end up on 45 points. But were we to lose the last two games, it's still very likely we'll stay up. I'd say it's about 90% likely that 39 points will be enough, but also about 80% likely that we'll end up with more than 39. At least one of Norwich, Newcastle, Wigan and Sunderland is likely to end up on 39 points or less.
Pedro Posted 4 May, 2013 Share Posted 4 May, 2013 I think we are safe but became nervous when there was talk of JR and RL being selected for England, making the stadium bigger, talk of Europe, suggesting signings for PL next season, talk of top 10 this season, all seemed a bit premature when we're not mathematically safe. Today's results just confirm that everyone can only guess and there will be some "told you so's" because someone will be right.
