The Kraken Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 If they lose them then what?...Why do people assume they will suddenly find form and win games in hand etc...strange stuff. One team might...not four. Wigan and Villa have both just won two games in a row, so its hardly hoping their form will change, is it? 2 wins out of 3 could be enough for Wigan; Villa are now above us after being a prime relegation candidate. Everyone else is within 2 points of us, and with 2 or 3 games to go for each of them its hardly inconceivable that they could catch us. i think we'll get a draw against Sunderland and a win against Stoke and stay up comfortably; but we're not there yet.
SaintBobby Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 I have said for many weeks 39 points will not be enough ! I again, stand by this. I have put my neck on the block for weeks and have been constantly lambasted and ridiculed but I have already been proven right in that we are in a relegation scrap ! You actually said 41-43 wld be needed. It won't be.
Dalek2003 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Down to 20/1 with the bookies but Wigan' date=' Norwich, Newcastle, and Sunderland all have shorter odds. Would still taking something pretty extraordinary for us to get relegated.[/quote'] Here we go, not so long ago people were crowing about being 100-1 ! Not so smug now, the statistical brigade !
Georgie Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Why do we have to make to so bloody difficult for ourselves. A few weeks ago I was expecting to kick on and finish the season well. Now we are just limping to finish line looking nervously over our shoulders.
Dalek2003 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 You actually said 41-43 wld be needed. It won't be. Yes I did, for safety we would need that number of points, which it probably will be. I also said that 39 points will not be enough to stay up !
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 I have said for many weeks 39 points will not be enough ! I again, stand by this. I have put my neck on the block for weeks and have been constantly lambasted and ridiculed but I have already been proven right in that we are in a relegation scrap ! You are ridiculed and rightly so as your predictions are virtually all wrong...
Dalek2003 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Why do we have to make to so bloody difficult for ourselves. A few weeks ago I was expecting to kick on and finish the season well. Now we are just limping to finish line looking nervously over our shoulders. I am surprised that you could have been so complacent.
Dalek2003 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 You are ridiculed and rightly so as your predictions are virtually all wrong... So, are you in denial. Safe are we ? Because, I have been predicting that we would be in a relegation scrap. Wrong am I or can you not read the league table ?
northam soul Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 If they lose them then what?...Why do people assume they will suddenly find form and win games in hand etc...strange stuff. One team might...not four.[/QUOT They don't need to find form the majority except wigan just need to win one game whilst they need 2. We have lost 2 in a row and not scored for ages so I would say we are in grave danger wouldn't you, all this too good to go down has been heard before. I have had too many last game nail biters with this club so I am hoping we win at sunderland to end it once and for all but our away form is poor.
musesaint Posted 4 May, 2013 Author Posted 4 May, 2013 Well the less than 1% chance has long gone out the window now! I think we should still stay up - but it's going to be bloody close Despite what some people say I would not like to be at SMS in two weeks time having to beat Stoke - they are just not the sort of side we beat given their style of play Only a decent result against Sunderland will do
SaintBobby Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Yes I did, for safety we would need that number of points, which it probably will be. I also said that 39 points will not be enough to stay up ! Nearly impossible to believe 41 points will be needed. Certainly not 42 or 43...
musesaint Posted 4 May, 2013 Author Posted 4 May, 2013 Wrong am I or can you not read the league table ? Haven't you gone a bit "Star Wars Yoda" with all this stress?
Saint Pete Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 We need a result in one of our last two IMO. I honestly don't think 39 points will be enough. This is our penalty for not making sure of things in the West Ham/West Brom home games.
sfc4prem Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 So, are you in denial. Safe are we ? Because, I have been predicting that we would be in a relegation scrap. James Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Here we go, not so long ago people were crowing about being 100-1 ! Not so smug now, the statistical brigade ! You realise that what you have said makes literally no sense... It was 100-1 because it was statistically very unlikely we'd go down but there has been a run of particularly unlikely results meaning that its now more likely hence the shortening of the odds. 20-1 compared to the odds of the other teams are still long odds... At the time people were crowing it was very unlikely we would go down and despite an unlikely string of results it still is...

Wigans first win in 5....Newcastle 1 point in 3..Norwich 1 win in 4....we have superior GD... Newcastle have the toughest run in as I'm sure QPRs last home game in the prem they might want to win...but Wigan will still drop imo.
Webby Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 I sincerely hope we get the points we need to stay up but really I think Norwich will struggle to get another point.

There's a bit too much relying on the odds of other teams results to go our way going on here, isn't there? We need to concentrate on putting the points on the board ourselves and forget what the rest are doing.

At the time people were crowing it was very unlikely we would go down and despite an unlikely string of results it still is... But that was what I was saying when were 100-1. I said that there could well be a run of 'unlikely' results because that is football and teams would be fighting for their lives. Can't you see, I was saying that 100-1 meant nothing. It is not the bookies that decide who is safe, it is football matches.
Charlie Wayman Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Why do we have to make to so bloody difficult for ourselves. How long have you been supporting Saints?

If I was MP I'd be reaching for the biggest hairdyer availabe
St Marco Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Don't think many expected us to win today so those who are on the doom march need to calm down. It is still well within our hands. Looking at the run in of games I think Newcastle should be very worried. They have the worst GD amongst those of us who could go down. And they have a final game against Arsenal who will most probably need to win that to go into the CL. It will be out of Sunderland, Wigan and Newcastle. And I just got a feeling Newcastle will be the ones to go.
badgerx16 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Well Villa are safe now after their decent run. No they're not.

Matthew Le God Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Dearest Dalek2003, Not just one - but ALL these things need to happen. It is NOT just Wigan. Which is why it is unlikely... For Saints to go down on 39 points... Norwich would need to get 2 points from West Brom (home) and Man City (away) AND Wigan would need to get 5 points from Swansea (home), Arsenal (away), Villa (home) AND Newcastle would need to get 2 points from QPR (away), Arsenal (home) For Saints to go down on 40 points... Norwich would need to get 3 points from West Brom (home) and Man City (away) AND Wigan would need to get 6 points from Swansea (home), Arsenal (away), Villa (home) AND Newcastle would need to get 3 points from QPR (away), Arsenal (home) AND Villa would need to get 1 point (bar a huge goal difference swing) from Chelsea (home), Wigan (away) AND Fulham would need to get 1 point or have a better goal difference from Liverpool (home), Swansea (away) AND Stoke would need to get 1 point or have a better goal difference from Tottenham (home), Saints (away)

skintsaint Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Wigan will beat Swansea and move even closer to us. People forget Wigan have an FA cup final in the middle of this....some players might not want to risk injury etc etc. I think they will get smashed in the final which wont do them any good confidence wise.
sfc4prem Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Many didn't expect a Wigan win either. Wigan will beat Swansea and move even closer to us. People who think we're safe are deluded. You can see into the future? Must be cool.

skintsaint Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 So are you saying its best to assume they will lose. no..im saying its very unlikely that all 4 teams below us will suddenly find form to overtake us...especially looking at their fixtures and our superior GD.

ALWAYS_SFC Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 I was the vocal minority, but I think I am now representing the vocal majority. Their is an avalanche of opinion coming round to my way of thinking. Nope..... not at all it, just that they are all out in force tonight as usual after a bad result
Dalek2003 Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 But relegation is decided on the pitch not in a bookies office so none of what you say matters a jot, if we don't get 3 more points were toast. As I have been saying for at least the last 4 weeks.
Didcot Saint Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Quite simple. Wigan beat Swansea and draw with Arsenal and Villa. The way their playing this is very acheivable. Norwich beat WBA. Newcastle beat QPR, we loose both and we're down. Quite possible the goals have dried up and we have two VERY tough games. Worried.
BallBoy Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 We all hoped we would not be in this position of having to work out all the permutations. But the reality is that we are on the slide at a very bad time. Todays events in both the Premiership and Championship show that promotions and relegations can hang on a thread. Todays results could not have been much worse for us. For what it's worth I have just played with the BBC predictor and been as fair as I could. We ended up surviving on a goal difference of 1 with Fulham going down! 6 teams were within a point of relegation. I gave us a point against Stoke. This is completely unpredicatable but I think odds of 20/1 against us going down are nonsense. We are playing nervously and without penetration at the moment. It has to change or we could well be gone.
Wildgoose Posted 4 May, 2013 Posted 4 May, 2013 Norwich v West Brom is going to be massive. If they fail to win, I think they could be the ones to go. I wish we had put this to bed against West Ham but it's typical Saints. We should still be okay but it's definitely not absolutely certain yet which it should have been... :0(
