Black Sea Saint Posted 26 April, 2013 Share Posted 26 April, 2013 I heard on the commentary during last week's game that we are currently third in Europe in the fair play league - I'm assuming that this excludes the teams already (or likely to) qualified. I can find the Premier table but not the UEFA one. Anyone got any info about this? Would we take it? Not sure that we're ready for a European campaign - the memories of Bucharest are still fresh in my mind http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matchday/fair-play.html

Pilchards Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 Chelsea have played 20 games so far in Europe, no way could our squad cope with that. Only the champions league please which is a massive ask within the next 3 years.

alpine_saint Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 After a double-red last week it appears the opportuinty is gone now anyway. Suppose because of the Suarez biting incident the FA had to make sure Liverpool get into Europe.

Get into Europe by winning a domestic cup. I may be wrong, but I doubt Swansea will play that many games in Europe next season

alpine_saint Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 The right decision. Bet it was a toughie for NC though. He strikes me as hungry and impatient.
Window Cleaner Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 The right decision. Bet it was a toughie for NC though. He strikes me as hungry and impatient. it's a hypothetical case anyway. We haven't won the place that we're definitely going to turn down as yet. We shall see what happens if we actually qualify.

MOSaint Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 Brendan Rogers has just said he'd accept a Fair Play place with Liverpool on Sky Sports News... He's done a bit of a 180 then, as he was saying a couple weeks back that Europe had to be earned etc similar to what MP said. Now Saurez is banned for 10 games, maybe he thinks the EL will be a good way to keep him match ready during his league suspension.
The9 Posted 3 May, 2013 Share Posted 3 May, 2013 Rodgers said the original question was a joke but got reported. Rodgers also said "I think that as a football club you have to... I don't think it's something that you can turn down if you get an opportunity to go into European football. The journey that we had this year in Europa League, all the players thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a great exercise for us, we were bitterly disappointed to go out, and if we got the chance to do it again then for sure we will". Also reporting Pochettino's comments via interpreter from the Press Conference today - REITERATED SAINTS WOULDN'T TAKE A PLACE IF OFFERED ! : "No we wouldn't accept it either... spoken with the Chairman... we decided not to take the offer, because we think that what you earn in football needs to be decided ON the pitch. And that's basically our decision, to only accept possibilities when we've earned them already on the pitch" So that's that then.
