Sadly on this day 6 years ago,one of the all time greats sadly passed away.

 

A great footballer for club and country,and a Manager who inspired his players with desire and passion.

 

A true Saint,never to be forgotten. :thumbup:

Southend in 2007? Championship season I think.

 

That was our first home game after it happened. Southend were already relegated and was a really good atmosphere for such a game!

RIP Bally.

 

Begs the question though; would you rather live a 'normal' life and die at 80 or play the game you love throughout your life (and win the World Cup!) and die at 60?

Big man for Saints and for England, all I can say is thanks for everything.

 

Incidentally, I heard it was 4 years ago today we were relegated to League One as well; not a great day in Saints history really, is it?

We did beat Hartlepool on this date 2 years ago!

Bally was the metronome in that great Saints side of the late 70s early 80s, tough little player with a great footballing brain who got the best out of Stevie Williams and Matt Le Tiss. Bit of a character too:
