sun of spain Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Sadly on this day 6 years ago,one of the all time greats sadly passed away. A great footballer for club and country, and a Manager who inspired his players with desire and passion. A true Saint, never to be forgotten.
Saint Garrett Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Didn't we play at Norwich that day? I seem to remember being there and singing Alan Ball songs in the pubs and in the ground.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Didn't we play at Norwich that day? I seem to remember being there and singing Alan Ball songs in the pubs and in the ground. Southend in 2007? Championship season I think.
Baldbarbarian Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 There were red & white Alan Ball banners to hold up on the day if I remember rightly?
jayrivers Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Southend in 2007? Championship season I think. That was our first home game after it happened. Southend were already relegated and was a really good atmosphere for such a game!

saintmatt Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 RIP Bally. Begs the question though; would you rather live a 'normal' life and die at 80 or play the game you love throughout your life (and win the World Cup!) and die at 60?
sun of spain Posted 25 April, 2013 Author Posted 25 April, 2013 The Norwich game was the 28th,a 1-0 away win courtesy of Leon Best.

Wade Garrett Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Closest I've come to tears at a football match, when we paid tribute to Bally at the match v Southend.
Mr Saints Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Closest I've come to tears at a football match, when we paid tribute to Bally at the match v Southend. Same here. RIP Bally.
Andre Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Big man for Saints and for England, all I can say is thanks for everything. Incidentally, I heard it was 4 years ago today we were relegated to League One as well; not a great day in Saints history really, is it?

Kingsland Red Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Went to his funeral / memorial service at Winchester Cathedral. Very moving - top man.
corsacar saint Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 Best one touch footballer I have ever seen.I am sure he was loved as much by the fans,as he loved our club.
Jonnyboy Posted 25 April, 2013 Posted 25 April, 2013 I swear a relegated Southend played at St Marys this time 4 years ago as well...
Miltonaggro Posted 26 April, 2013 Posted 26 April, 2013 Bally was the metronome in that great Saints side of the late 70s early 80s, tough little player with a great footballing brain who got the best out of Stevie Williams and Matt Le Tiss. Bit of a character too:
