ART Posted 23 April, 2013 Share Posted 23 April, 2013 May the wrath of God make itself known on those who've voted Equal Rights Marriage and Adoption tonight here in France. I have always support civil unions and the social rights of gay couples but Marriage is between a man and woman with the aim of producing children. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/apr/23/france-approves-same-sex-marriage

Joensuu Posted 24 April, 2013 Share Posted 24 April, 2013 Good on France. Question is did they spontaneous break into song like the Kiwi's did? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/newzealand/10001204/New-Zealand-parliament-breaks-out-in-song-after-gay-marriage-vote.html
Sheaf Saint Posted 24 April, 2013 Share Posted 24 April, 2013 The wrath of God? But surely if god made everything then he is responsible for people being homosexual in the first place, so why would he then be angry about them receiving the same civil rights as everybody else? Unless, of course, god didn't make everything and he/she/it is just a figment of human imagination. I am fully in favour of the whole idea of gay marriage mainly because it makes the ultra-religious so angry. The belief that the voting of gay marriage laws somehow translates as oppression of their religious belief is so utterly laughable, these people really need to get over themselves. I saw something on FB last week that some guy has bought a house directly opposite the Westboro Baptist Church and has painted it in the rainbow colours of the LGBT movement. It was brilliant! norwaysaint Posted 24 April, 2013 Share Posted 24 April, 2013 Of course Christians can decide who can get married because they invented it. Before Christianity adult relationships were one big hedonistic free for all. I don't know if that's supposed to be serious or not. I hope it isn't because it's nonsense. Marriage as a monogamous and binding communion dates back well before Christian times to cultures all over the world. Annoyingly, like festivals at Christmas and Easter times, Christians have started to believe that since it is part of their culture, they own it and started it, when they were just continuing something that was already there and adding a few bits of ceremony, but then again, I expect it was a tongue in cheek comment. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 24 April, 2013 Share Posted 24 April, 2013 So men and women who can't have children shouldn't be allowed to marry either? What if they are married, and before they have had a chance to have kids are then unable to? Should the marriage be annulled?

dubai_phil Posted 24 April, 2013 Share Posted 24 April, 2013 Wellllllllllll..... He has a point. Why should (for example a woman) be penalised by Christian Religion and Law in certain countries because she had the misfortune in life to fall in love with a man who made a mistake in his life by marrying very young and is subsequently divorced? A Catholic girl is Excommunicated which then brings issues relating to her status as a God Parent in her country (let alone unable to Wed in a Church in her country) Laws are being passed that allows same sex marriages (in a Church) but "Proper" old fashioned marriages are discriminated against. Me I don't give a damn about Gay Marriage or Marrying in a Council Office, but it IS bloody unfair on a Woman who may have dreamt of a Church Wedding since she was a toddler. Everyone equal or none equal. This is just a bandwagon vote winner and it is all the more Bull**** for that. Rant over

The Catholic Church discriminating against divorced women has nothing to do with a state (which is secular) passing a law permitting "gay marriage". I'd imagine the Catholic Church in France will continue to discriminate against Gays just as they will against divorcees.
