Hoppysaint Posted 23 April, 2013 Share Posted 23 April, 2013 With MU winning the title with a month to spare and us nearly safe it's got me thinking that the season will soon be over, one that us Saints fans eagerly anticipated and I have to say it's been a rollercoaster for us with the baptsim of fire with MC, MU and ARS in the first 4 games then battling to overcome the tag of relegation certainties, then when we were on the up we had to contend with Adkins Gate and every neutral on the planet hating us just when we were starting to impress with our style of football. In addition to not missing a home game I've been to 7 away games ARS 1-6, QPR 3-1, Ful 1-1, Sto 3-3, Av 1-0, Nor 0-0, Swa 0-0 and have tickets for Spurs and I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed the away days, our fans have been fantastic, win draw or lose we keep getting behind the team. The highlights for me have been:- 1. Proving we are a good side to the (PL) football world. 2. Beating Man City at home and following it up with wins v Chelsea and Liverpool. 3. Outplaying Man U at Old Trafford earning Fergie's respect as the best team that had gone there. Felt proud to be a Saints fan even though we lost. 4. Losing on the opening day to MC but we gave them one helluva a shock and then nearly beating MU at home but threw it away in the last few minutes. 5. Sir RL proving he could cut it in the PL having proved it everywhere else, a true Saints legend. 6. Schneiderlin and Cork proving what a class defensive midfield pairing they are that will hopefully be at the club for years to come. The lows:- 1 Really only the shambolic way Adkins was treated (even if the decision itself has proved itself) and the way it damaged the image of our club at the time. But time heals. Great to be a Saints fan! the future is bright the future is red and white! WTFILN! Have I missed anything?

Jack Posted 23 April, 2013 Share Posted 23 April, 2013 Probably best to sum it up once it's finished? We could still finish 8th or 18th.
John Boy Saint Posted 23 April, 2013 Share Posted 23 April, 2013 Lows: No hot water from the taps in the gents under the Chapel especially on a bitterly cold day, it's like being an away fan! Coffee (when you have been seriously on the sauce the night before, a pint at the game and then driving home not the best idea) being served in increasingly smaller cups on the concourse. Seeing the Programme shop under the Chapel empty and not being used for anything.......... What was the point in closing it during the season?! sussexsaint Posted 23 April, 2013 Share Posted 23 April, 2013 We are playing better football than I can remember us playing for the last 20 years. And the way it looks things are set to get better and better. Proud and happy

I would add that the defence has improved significantly as the season progressed - thanks to the choice of Boruc as goalie and the emergence of Shaw as an excellent, up-and-coming left back. yorkie Posted 23 April, 2013 Share Posted 23 April, 2013 The Premiership is obviously the place to be - but I don't like the cost to fans! I've relegated myself to streaming on line every game and watching from the comfort of an armchair! It's OK but you don't get to see your mates and have a beer etc. In the previous few seasons attended loads of games home and away from York - but the extra £10 on a ticket was the final straw that broke the camels back. Yes I can still afford it - but I'm not prepared to pay more. I've heard all the arguements - players wages, extra policing, more catering staff - but the club get MEGA bucks off the PL and the fans get sweet FA. Why can't the club charge £20 a game regardless of what league they are in? It's not as if the gate money pays the salaries these days! Saying all that I'm making the pilgrimage to SMS against WBA as I got a seat in Block 1. Too many years of following one club to be that tight and not go at all - I did go to Wigan and Leeds earlier this season. A great season of football - biggest disappointment Gaston Ramirez. Biggest difference to our season was Jack Cork returning from injury - him and Morgan have been immense. Sorry to see Adkins go - but we survived. It was obvious after the first few weeks after he left the team stepped up a gear showing his methods couldn't take us to the next level (whatever that is deemed to be) but he will always be a great in my eyes. The fact that we could be in Europe via the fair play is just mind boggling - whether it is right for the club I'm not sure. I would jump on the chance to go overses and watch them in some far flung place - but hey that would be me being a JCL and jumping on the bandwagon! Dr. Kucho Posted 23 April, 2013 Share Posted 23 April, 2013 SRL goal away at City is one my highlights of this season. Couldn't believe we had equalised and what it must of meant to SRL scoring a goal in the PL. If we can finish between 10th and 13th, the players remain injury free and Lambert stays topscorer of the English players, I would give this season a 9/10.
