Sheaf Saint Posted 22 April, 2013 Share Posted 22 April, 2013 And here was me thinking it was because Iran is located on the convergent boundary between the Eurasian and Arabian tectonic plates, but apparently it's because some young Iranian women like to show a bit of their hair in public.... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/apr/19/women-blame-earthquakes-iran-cleric "Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. It seems the stupidity of religion knows no bounds.

I hate the argument that women dressing provocatively leads men astray. These would be the same people that claim women bring rape upon themselves. It's such a vile viewpoint. A woman could sit on a busy train 100% naked, if a man rapes her, it is still rape. She may be guilty of indecent exposure, but that does not excuse men raping women. Men should be able to control their urges. Rant over. Sorry for being off topic.
hypochondriac Posted 22 April, 2013 Share Posted 22 April, 2013 It's very stupid, but it isn't the Islamic religion that is saying that is it. It's just some idiot who claims to be a muslim.

Yes I acknowledge that. But it is because of the dogmatic nonsense that this man has been subjected to throughout his life that he thinks this way, so the Islamic religion as a whole is indirectly responsible for his irrationality. What about those who are Muslim yet are really good people and don't think that way. Is their religion indirectly responsible for that too? buctootim Posted 22 April, 2013 Share Posted 22 April, 2013 it is because of the dogmatic nonsense that this man has been subjected to throughout his life that he thinks this way, so the Islamic religion as a whole is indirectly responsible for his irrationality. Its not though. The backward nonsensical views come not from the religion itself, whichever one it is, but from a certain mindset found in most areas of the world compounded by a lack of education or outside influences. They views of a an Afghani muslim tribesman from the remote regions wont be much different from a non muslim one from the same area - whilst the views of middle class Islamic clerics born in Britain will have much more in common with a middle class Anglican than his Afghani counterpart. Is their religion indirectly responsible for that too? It's the same religious framework, based on the same sacred texts, so yes. If Islamic leaders did not insist on women covering themselves up in the name of Allah then there would be no grounds for this guy to hold this opinion. The muslim religion is responsible for alot of screwed up thinking.
