Why is MP so charmless?

I am a convert to the new style of play, pressing pressing pressing etc and I am happy with the points.

But i do wish he would occasionally smile, occasionally look happy, occasionally answer a question. Its not that hard mate. I know you are under pressure but this dour monosyllabic non-answering kind of interactivity with the media is only going to wash for so long...and then what? The media will soon start making up their minds about this currently rather charmless man....

I just wish he would not go out of his way to appear bored, arrogant and rude so often when he appears on the telly. Quite how long he is going to be allowed to get away with these after match non-interviews i don't know but the post swansea effort was particularly poor i thought..His non-answers to questions do not even have the positive smiley upbeat spin that NA always imparted on his non-answers. MP, for me, is coming across as rude, and that rudeness is a cover for something else - who knows what- nerves maybe? Maybe its easier to appear rude than it is to be frightened of the job.

His contempt for the reporters and interviewers is quite tangible - they ask him questions in front of tv viewers and he's looking over someones shoulder somewhere else - and when he answers if you read between the lines he is often saying "f off im not answering". He is accountable only to NC that is true - and they share similar characteristics i think. Maybe that is why he got the gig in the first place. NC found a fellow kindred spirit. Maybe we should expect some NC type decision making from MP- so there should be shock at hearing of 15 leavers in the summer for instance - why wait til the summer - transfer list them the minute we get safe- maybe by the end of April is more like it....

Its not irredeemable, but i hope that he will show some more loveable characteristics in due course..

Strachan was a nutter. Did bloody well though, good enough for me. Oh and he was from the UK

You can't have "UK" as your geographical boundary nowadays, according to some on here it doesn't matter where you're from if you're not English. You can see that from Gareth Bale's goals not counting for anything this season in a certain league table and how vitally important it is that Rickie Lambert scores more than everyone else born the same historically flexible area with no single defining characteristic and a shared legal system. If you're not English you may as well be Uruguayan as Scottish. Or Welsh, euw, Welsh.

Oops, sorry, hit F3 for "Turkish mode".

He does come across as bored and disinterested with all the media stuff and treats quetions with a bit of disdain. Bit rude, but I don't think it really matters. Don't know how anyone can sit through any of those interviews with all the translations going back and forth dragging it all out.

What we need is a manager who is media friendly, has a few well placed mates who can help the cubs profile and who doesn't mind talking to them and cracking a few jokes. I can think of at least one who will be looking for a premier league job soon and he also has unfinished business with us.......

one time, instead of answering question he picked his nose and wiped it on simon brotherton's jacket.

That's nothing, you should see what he did to Simon Peach with a bucket of water, some KY Jelly and Radhi Jaidi. It's all on match day uncovered, you just have to look in the right places. Don't be put off by James Ward Prowse break dancing, this is just to distract your attention.

It's F3 to cancel as well.

FWIW I don't even think he comes across as charmless, and I have female friends who don't seem to have a problem with him seeming charming.

Dont worry. This thread is obviously some sort of wind-up although I can't see the humour in it myself. MP always comes across as someone very happy to speak to the media. I have seen absolutely nothing that could be interpreted as either charmless or in any way rude. He is always happy to be interviewed and never appears ruffled by what are often fatuous questions - e.g. 'Are you going to thank Nigel Adkins for your squad when you meet him?'. A very rude question but one he took seriously and battered away rather gently. He doesn't smile a lot or crack jokes but is that really a football manager's job?

Until you see him giving interviews in English I would imagine it will be hard for his personality to come across, its ok telling a joke but once you have said it in Spanish then its translated into English and maybe lost in translation a bit it may not be funny anymore.

I watch all his pre match interviews and press conferences on Saints player and I think he comes across very well. Him and his interpreter are a bit of a 'double act' and come across as two normal, genuine people. He answers very honestly as well and does give more away than Nigel did. I don't really see the what your point is regardless of whether it is true.

Pep Gardiola today announced that he will be giving his Press Conferences and interviews in German when he takes up his position at Bayern. He has been learning German and said it is only normal for any manager going to work overseas to do so. He further criticised those managers who were arrogant and talked thru interpreters.

Wonder whether he has Pochittino in mind in that statement! I certainly think it's not on that Pochittino refuses to even make an effort. A further sign of his lack of humor.

Given the almost unanimous feeling from responses to date that actually he comes across as ok in interviews it points to the OP misunderstanding MP's "manner", or being just plain wrong in his assessment of his TV interview character as portrayed to date as being somewhat "charmless".

We have seen him laughing in training that is true - and a good thing, and if the results are good then who really gives a tuppeny continental that's probably true as well.

I actually think that he understand more english than he lets on, and that his refusal to speak english in interviews by using the interpreter is a way of protecting him in the short term from pesky questions on pesky subjects. As for not answering questions much - well all the EPL Managers have their own way of not answering questions, maybe MP's blunt way of not answering questions seems a little offish to me but not odd to everyone else.

BTW- I am an admirer of his and am very happy with the style of football we play so whatever his character if he keeps us playing like this I'm good. Just might send him a few one liners to use occasionally. Reminds me of AVB actually, it took him a while to smile occasionally as well.

Christ - I assumed the interpreter guy was his boyfriend!

I would say he is very genuine and if you watch the video of his interviews is actually quite a character.

Very unfair IMO.

I really worry at your assessment of character. There is little difference between Pochettino and the likes of Harry Redknapp. Time will tell but in the meantime I wish you'd get out ino the world to improve how you access people and read their hidden side, their real motivations.

What I really want is a manager giving impromptu press conferences from the window of his range rover, does said mystery man to which you refer do this?
