Will be interesting to see what players we are targeting in order to replace those leaving.

A lot of those listed aren't in the squad and have been loaned out for most of the season. They don't need to be "replaced" directly.

It is basically clearing the deadwood from successive promotions that weren't able to keep up with the progress of the club. It'll likely end up being more than 15 players if you include the development squad players leaving.

Whoever wrote this article hasnt done his or her research, Dutch winger Steve de Ridder, Guly falling out? I thought he was injured.

If we were to release/put players on the transfer list the 15 players would be: De Ridder, Lee, Hammond, Sharp, Chaplow, Butterfield, Forte, Forecast, Dickson, Barnard, Seaborne, Richardson and some academy players. Cant see us selling Mayuka after paying 6 million? for him last summer.

Dont disagree with too much of that though Mayuka surely is worth keeping for longer and I still rate Richardson, cant think oh him doing much wrong when called upon this season and could still do a job for sure.

Callum Chambers will probably be moved up to the first team squad and be backup on RB to Clyne and we also have Cork that can cover that spot too so I think Richardsson will leave.

Mayuka was around £3M. Can't see that he'd go anywhere; can't see that anyone would actually want him.

Not so sure Mayuka will leave though, would be interesting to see him get a couple of 30 min games in our last games.

He has attributes but I think he is a bit too raw and immature as a player on this level.

But you could see yesterday that he has attributes to be a good player. Very quick feets and can move the ball half a yard to make defenders miss it and take his legs instead and therefore wins freekicks outside the box.

Mayuka was about 3.5 million, wouldn't be surprised if we sold him on.

Who to? I can't imagine anyone would consider giving us much of that if we decided to offload him now.

Althoughif he's not in MP's long term plan then I suppose we'd be best off just taking the hit and getting rid. We'll see.

Why?

Because...

1) he is only 22 years old

2) he is the 5th most expensive signing Southampton have ever made

3) he has shown glimpses of potential in the brief cameos he has had

I think he'll stay, have a pre-season with Pochettino and we'll see more of him next season along with Vegard Forren.

If Chambers is ready for prem football ok but surely, should he want it, giving Richardson a short extension might be worthwhile?

Cork CAN play rb fairly well but he is wasted there for me, too important in the middle of the park.

If Mayuka is on the list to ''leave'', I'd imagine it's a loan at most to give him some regular playing time. Don't think we'd cast him aside just yet.

The other's - can't disagree.

Good shout. Depending on who we bring in Mayuka out on loan may not be the worst shout, maybe for six months with recall option to somebody in the championship to keep him learning the english game, must be somebody who'd fancy taking a punt on him!

Mayuka being our 5th most expensive signing is irrelevant to this

Are they just nicking articles from other papers a couple of months later ? Didn't we already have this discussion in Feb/March when it was in a broadsheet ? I can't see us flogging Mayuka and getting rid of the rest of them will have very little impact.

He hasn't managed it in any Saints or England U21 match I've ever seen him play RB in. Nice to see him double his tally of decent shots for the season on Saturday though.

Not really.

If Cortese decides to invest £3.5m on a 22 year old international, I think he will give him more than a year to show his worth. Given his lack of game time so far we would struggle to recoup that fee and would be better of keeping him to see how he develops.

When he says "his" list does he mean a names he has been given or is that just a list based off his own personal opinion? Mayuka aside, I have no problem with any of those players getting shown the door as none of them are of the required standard for this league. Feel Mayuka should be given another season to see if he can adjust to the PL and it will be interesting to see if MP gives him an opportunity to prove himself in one of these final fixtures.

What does his age, transfer fee or playing well for 10 minutes 6 months ago have to so with if the new manager rates him or not?

The things which are relevant are the clubs plan, the players plan and who else may be interested. Cortese won't be looking at the all time record Saints signings index before making his decision. 3.5 million may be a lot historically for Saints but in todays world, it's not much in this market.

What about it? Says nothing about if the manager rates him and wants him or not.

As I said, how would Saints recoup that £3.5m fee at the moment given he hasn't played much? We'd be better off keeping him and see how he develops in the coming years. He is young at 22 and from what I've seen of him he looks to have potential. I'm certainly not going to write him off (yet). The other players on the list I can understand leaving as they are relics of successive promotions and the club progressed too quickly for them and we need a better quality now.

He was even used in the last game, so is still in Pochettino's thoughts.

Which was his first 3 minutes of action since December. He's hardly played under 2 mangers, not even making the bench for months. Hardly seems to be at the forefront of his thoughts. If the manager doesn't think he is good enough then his age, ranking in Saints signings history and his 10 decent minutes in October won't make a blind bit of difference.

We should keep Mayuka. I think he could be a very good, quick player for us next season.

It wasn't all that long ago that some on here were questioning why we bought Jay Rod - and look how he's done lately.

I have a sneaky suspicion Mayuka will prove to be a very good acquisition too.

I'd say that Mayuka making the bench and getting a little bit of play time shows that he may still be somewhere on the cusp of the manager's longer term plans - in a way that some of the other players listed clearly aren't.

If we were to get rid of c.15 players, then that does free up a lot of cash on the wage bill. What are these guys costing us on average? Maybe around £10K a week each? So maybe frees up as much as £7m per annum?

The deeper fringes yes, but I'd imagine Hammond, Sharp, Chaplow, De Ridder and probably Richardson all being within the main squad's wages. They were first-team players/undisputed starters last season so would've been included in promotion bonuses and wages rises me thinks.

So, you mean we might save more than £7m? Say, £10m+?
