Miffy Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 I was just looking through our results for the season and noticed that we have played 17 matches either side of Xmas. In the first 17 we lost 10 games In the last 17 we lost 3 games The points tally is 15 vs 24 The reduction in defeats is pretty impressive at this level.
Saint Charlie Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Just further underlines that the change of Manager was the right decision from Cortese.
The9 Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Just underlines how skewed the fixture list was with all the difficult games at the start, and how long it takes to get a team up to Prem speed... in hindsight, it actually helped us, as we lost a load of games we'd expect to lose anyway to top half teams and the players got used to a higher standard than the teams we played in October-December when we started to pick up points. The change of manager also tweaked our tactics and made us less easy to prepare for the second time we played teams.

That's about 90% of the season. And it's not as if we played all the top teams home and away before Xmas. It's a pretty symmetrical fixture list.
Shanghai Saint Posted 21 April, 2013 Posted 21 April, 2013 Our recovery from the initial run of games was terrific. So many times in the past, teams with a horrendous opening schedule never go on to recover their confidence and end up relegated - think Bolton last year. Changing the manager added dynamism to the team but the inner character has never been in doubt.

Now then how will we cope with this European stuff soon?
