Horton Heath Saint Posted 20 April, 2013 Share Posted 20 April, 2013 Needs to take English language in the Summer. I would want him speaking English at the start of next season. Takes flipping ages when he is interviewed!

scotsaintsfan Posted 20 April, 2013 Share Posted 20 April, 2013 He can already speak reasonable english. It's all a media facade. Yes apparently it's because he doesn't want to get interpreted wrongly by the media so uses the translator to get his points across when being interviewed

Colinjb Posted 20 April, 2013 Share Posted 20 April, 2013 Yes, but he did it in impeccable English. Language is about understanding. And it is on that basis that I think we should give Poch all the time in the world to get comfortable with English. Lets not repeat the mistakes of the past. whelk Posted 21 April, 2013 Share Posted 21 April, 2013 Capello lost his gravitas when started talking to press in English. I like taht it sounds cultured even if it may be the same as Nige's cliches albeit in another language. Juntos como uno

Exactly my interpretation....interviewers are always looking to "make" a story, or be controversial....I recall Strachan knew how to deal with " idiot journalists " .and he couldn't speak English either.... Miltonaggro Posted 21 April, 2013 Share Posted 21 April, 2013 I've heard he's doubling up with salsa dancing lessons and that he will be reciting Shakespeare and dancing the cha cha cha with Louis Spence at half time in the Ted Bates Trophy match. That should appease the doubters...

ART Posted 21 April, 2013 Share Posted 21 April, 2013 He looks fine or do you call smart black shoes and jeans scruffy? He doesn't shave often and has to be the scruffiest manager around on match days. He can do three week crash course during the summer. If not in Southampton, plenty of good language schools in Barcelona. His problem is he is rarely not without his Spanish speaking assistants and missus when off duty. I totally agree....he looks a bit of a hobo. Given the money he must be on, he could at least make some effort. I'm not saying he should wear the full whistle, but at least look a bit smarter. Nicola is trying to globally brand Saints, yet he allows the key man to look like a South American Worzel.

JibMcdo Posted 21 April, 2013 Share Posted 21 April, 2013 I don't think he speaks English to the players, has this been confirmed anywhere? You look at him in the press conferences, he doesn't understand a single word of any of the questions asked. You'd think if he spoke this perfect English he would at least recognise some of the questions.

I'm sure he doesn't speak " perfect English " ...but I've watched a number of interviews on line with squad players and they say he has no real problem communicating in training. Puncheon had a guest spot on SSN and he confirmed that and I think Adam did also at some early stage. on the contrary, I think he does understand a lot that they say, but this is a good way of keeping them at arm's length..It'd be more embarrassing to answer some of the questions yet not understand everyone.
