Ashley Grute Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Which game for you has been the most significant in our return to the premier league over the last few years? Some that spring to mind are home v Coventry and MK Dons, but for me it was the away win at Brighton in league 1! Was worried Huddersfield would beat us to second place but the Fonte goal was an amazing moment as a saints fan!
SNOWY Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Our win at Brighton. We were under serious pressure with Huddersfield on our tail & they were desperate to beat us.
Supersubpuckett Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Agree with both of these - Brighton away in L1 and then the stalingrad like defence in champ. On reflection we've had a lot of games where we just saved ourselves in the dying minutes - away to reading, home to blackpool......
Tokyo-Saint Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Leeds away - fantastic win. Also when we beat Watford at their place, the players looked like they really started to believe we could go up.
SuperSAINT Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Our win at Brighton. We were under serious pressure with Huddersfield on our tail & they were desperate to beat us. This was the 1st one that popped into my head.
saints-cris Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Turning it round V MK Dons was probably the start of it all. The last minute win against Brighton was massive. The fact I live around Brighton, very much dislike them and they were being particularly annoying at the time made it all even sweeter. Millwall away. The scenes in the away end were magical. Leeds away, showed we had all the character to get promoted.
david in sweden Posted 21 April, 2013 Posted 21 April, 2013 for me .....BOTH the games v. West Ham. Jos scored in both games and without those 4 points, they might have qualified for automatic promotion in front of us, and we would have been faced with the play-offs...... Glad I didn't have to live through that scenario.
saintmatt Posted 21 April, 2013 Posted 21 April, 2013 Leeds at home last season - set the tone for the season in a league it's incredibly easy to stagnate in
Colinjb Posted 21 April, 2013 Posted 21 April, 2013 (edited) I would go even further back and say Huddersfield at home. 28th December 2010. We were 1-0 down and being given a bit of a lesson by a very confident Huddersfield side. We had conceeded early, Lee Novak heading one in on 15 minutes, but the real moment came when Scott Arfield missed a sitter shortly afterwards. From then on we went rampant. Goals from Lambert and Chamberlain on 28 and 32 minutes gave us the lead. With the game turned on it's head we controlled the second half and thanks to goals from Jaidi and Chaplow we prevailed as 4-1 victors. The win took us into the top 6 for the first time that year and started us on a 12 month run of being unbeaten at home in the league. That was the moment for me when our momentum took a devestatingly upward turn. Edited 21 April, 2013 by Colinjb
