The9 Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 For the hell of it (and yes, there are a few quirks worth discussing) : English Saints (4-4-2, obviously) ---------------K Davis---------------- Clyne-----Richardson--Martin-----Shaw Puncheon--Cork--Ward-Prowse--Lallana ---------------------Rodriguez-------- -----------Lambert------------------- -----------------v-------------------- --------------Mayuka----------------- ---Lee--------Ramirez---------Guly---- ---------Schneiderlin-S Davis---------- Fox----Hooiveld-----Fonte------Yoshida ----------------Boruc----------------- Foreign Saints (4-2-3-1) Looking at the English Centre backs (Seaborne and Stephens could also sit in there to no great impact) and going on being as weak as your weakest link, I'd go for the overseas team, even with Guly and Tadanari Lee starting and Yoshida out of position on the right. Who do you think would win ?
niceandfriendly Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 They should do this at St. Mary's for a charity fun match!
PhilippineSaint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 The English mob for me definately hold the midfield then forward to Lambert and Rodrigues just have to score more than them
niceandfriendly Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 I'll go for a win for the English Saints, due to Lallana, Lambert, Rodriguez, Cork, Puncheon, Clyne and Shaw. It's great that most of our best players are English.
The9 Posted 19 April, 2013 Author Posted 19 April, 2013 The English mob for me Any reason ? I think the defence is quite poor, though it's basically a first team in the front 6 positions.

Saint Charlie Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Good thread compared to some others of late. I reckon the UK team would win if the CB's were well protected. Puncheon would destroy Fox. Could easily argue both ways.

PhilippineSaint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Does this not happen on the training pitch when they pick sides?
Saint Garrett Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 English Saints to win IMO. Think they would have more about them and create much more chances. However both defences look poor ! ha
Saint Charlie Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 A UK team would include Fox. And S Davis. Indeed. I mean English team then pal.
Minsk Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Strangely, I was thinking about this the other day. So, good thread! I think it would be a very close run match. Obviously, the English team have the much better attack whilst the 'others' have a better defence (well, CBs anyway). Tellingly, I also think the 'others' would have the better of it in CM. Morgan and Davis are a better pair than Cork and JWP. Also, Cork would have to sit very deep to protect the weak CBs thus ceding MF. However, the English lot would control the flanks. So, England to win on penalties after a hard fought draw.
John Boy Saint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 The England Team will have the Brazilian mentality of "score against us we dont care, because we will score more goals than you".
The9 Posted 19 April, 2013 Author Posted 19 April, 2013 A UK team would include Fox. And S Davis. Which is why it's specifically an English team (and Fox wouldn't get in the English team)...

The9 Posted 19 April, 2013 Author Posted 19 April, 2013 Does this not happen on the training pitch when they pick sides? I'm sure it will have happened at Staplewood in some form already...
The9 Posted 19 April, 2013 Author Posted 19 April, 2013 I'm mildly amused that no-one yet has pointed out that the 4-4-2 and the 4-2-3-1 are basically the same formations above. .
sandwichsaint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Obviously depends if it was raining and what day of the week it's played on. In the interests of fairness it would obviously be played on a neutral ground ... I nominate Hartlepool away on a Tuesday.
VectisSaint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 So, England to win on penalties after a hard fought draw. That would be a first...

I'm mildly amused that you find that midly amusing. An all time.......hang on, no. Lots of younger viewers. A Premier League era Saints English XI v Saints foreign XI might be interesting.
Bobbyboy Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Not sure but maybe I'd have Jack Stephens in central defence rather than Richardson. Need to free him up in case we need a front sweeper.
The Kraken Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Not sure but maybe I'd have Jack Stephens in central defence rather than Richardson. Need to free him up in case we need a front sweeper. That's Seaborne's role FFS.
Colinjb Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 ---------------K Davis---------------- Clyne-----Seaborne--Martin-----Shaw Puncheon--Cork--Ward-Prowse--Lallana ---------------------Rodriguez-------- -----------Lambert------------------- -----------------v-------------------- --------------Mayuka----------------- ---Lee--------Ramirez---------Guly---- ---------Schneiderlin-S Davis---------- Fox----Hooiveld-----Fonte------Yoshida ----------------Boruc----------------- Ok. Sub Richardson for Seaborne. We (england) have an agricultural but ok central defence and a team with a better attacking balance. The foreigners will dominate central midfield. Lee and Guly will enjoy running at the centre backs but not our full-backs. Our forward line will test Yoshida at full-back, he is the weak link in that defence. Mayuka will run at our centre-backs and look to bring Guly/Lee into play but will lose the physical battle. I see a win for the english side, but it depends on the centre backs performing. The foreign eleven will hold a lot of possession but our pace down the flanks will do enough to see us through.
sandwichsaint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Where would our 'English' team finish in the English PL? ....... top 4-5 at least? Doubt half the sides could field a credible English X1 (we're weak at CB but beyond that we can field a League Cup standard all-English X1) Viva la fairplay revolution.

First or second, probably.
sentry Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Good to see we could in theory actually field an all english team,,,, most teams in the EPL could not. Although its great to sign the odd star from abroad, still is greaet to have local or at least english talent in the ranks.
The9 Posted 20 April, 2013 Author Posted 20 April, 2013 I'm mildly amused that you find that midly amusing. I like to throw something in there for the observant.
The9 Posted 20 April, 2013 Author Posted 20 April, 2013 Good to see we could in theory actually field an all english team,,,, most teams in the EPL could not. I'd say "would not", just as we "should not" send out Martin and Richardson as CBs in the Prem. Or Seaborne, or Stephens (yet?).

I nearly had Fonte as said "front sweeper" for the Foreign Fanatics with Forren in at CB, until I noticed I had somehow not included Schneiderlin in the midfield.
