Is it?

Apparently it is, can't be bothered to follow the links but it is referred to above as this and my nipper told me today ( via Talksport, the font of all knowledge) that the players vote in January , make of that what you will.

Seems a bit silly asking footballers to remember what happened last season ... perhaps more accurately it should be described as an August-to-January player of the season.

Somebody with more time than me needs to go and check this out!

I always knew the voting started fairly early, which is why players who do well in the first half of the season but then tail off have always done well in the votes. I always thought it was per season though, despite that.

Apologies if posted already before but just saw this:

Southampton hot-shot Rickie Lambert says small clubs are snubbed by PFA when awards are dished out

While he may not have expected to be named himself, Southampton striker Rickie Lambert believes the absence of Michu from the PFA Footballer of the Year Awards shortlist shows smaller clubs are discriminated against when it comes to handing out gongs.

Lambert, despite having scored more goals than any other English player in the Premier League, was philosophical about his own omission, but surprised by the omission of his Swansea City counterpart, who has 21 this campaign.

“I did not believe before this season that players suffer from playing for a so-called ‘unfashionable’ side but I’m starting to see it more and more,” he said.

“I’m just happy to be scoring in the Premier League and I’ll keep doing that to help the team push up the league. But it is shocking really if someone like Michu can’t get in [to the nominations] with the season he has had. I don’t know what it is, whether it is ourselves or the FA, but it is shocking that he is not in it.”

Both players failed to press their case in a goalless draw at the Liberty Stadium where Michu was unable to finish a handful of chances amid a lively but blunted display from Swansea.

Lambert did, however, produce the game’s one moment of class, a delicious curling free-kick that was equally matched by a fine save from Michel Vorm.

The sense of injustice was shared at Swansea, where teenage left-back Ben Davies has emerged in a season that has seen the club clinch European football.

Midfielder Leon Britton said: “The players who are up for the award are all at top clubs but it would have been nice to see couple of our lads recognised for what they’ve done, especially Michu. He has been fantastic and you wonder where we would have been without him.

“Ben was unknown at the start of the season and now playing international football going from strength to strength.”

Swansea are still struggling to shake-off the hangover from their Capital One Cup success while Southampton, now unbeaten in six, are eying the one further victory likely to secure Premier League football for another season.

Lambert said: “We’re still not safe so we rode the storm because we needed the point more than them but we’re showing confidence at this level.”
