Saint J 77 Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 The comedic soundtrack that used to accompany much Saints defending, in my head at least. The chase music, to saints trying to defend during the branfoot era, Ah yes, now I hear it that works well lol
moonraker Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Great news, looking forward to next season especially with a couple of quality signings in the summer.
Colbury Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Well happy with this. Hilarious to think he was written off by most of the helmets on here after the West Ham / Spurs games as not being good enough.. "Not the answer, we need another keeper" "boruc is sh*t" etc Well done Artur for proving the clueless mongs wrong.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Hope he has a relegation clause / % wage drop
lewiphi Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Great news. One of the better keepers in the league. Onwards and upwards
rooney Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Agreed, then Timmy Flowers so Boruc still has a bit of work to do yet but Boruc is probably the biggest character of them all. A good signing for us but John Hollowbread was the biggest goalkeeping character we ever had.
waterlooville saint Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Great news. I think he's really steadied the ship at the back.

Stubby Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Did you see Niemi at his best? At times the goal mouth had a force field blocking any goals - he was that good. I only hope that by the time Boruc leaves he is seen in the same class as Niemi - that would be great and he has the ability and character to achieve it. For what it's worth, yes I did. I also saw Shilton, who I would say was better than both.
david in sweden Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Cody Cropper will be the USA Keeper in a few years. good planning then.......if Artur stays fit and on form, we won't have to trouble KD too much and it's upto MP to get Gazzaniga upto scratch by the time AB retires.....
BlakeySFC Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Entitled to your opinion obviously but he was voted best keeper in League One and the Championship two years in a row. Could have been 3 actually? A competent League 1/Championship keeper, got found out in the PL with Sunderland and got found out in the PL with us though. His placement, ability to command his area and his inability to come and claim balls from dead-ball situations mean he is just not a top-quality keeper. He probably should've won the L1 keeper of the year award as he was probably the best of a bad bunch. But personally, I don't think he should of won Championship Keeper of the year last year (although I will say his performance at Leeds was absolutely superb). He's been well and truly found out this season and should never make another Saints appearance again unless it is to replace our No.1 (Boruc) from the bench like he did against Chelsea.
Mattio Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Hope he has a relegation clause / % wage drop 0/10
Mr X Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 A good keeper in his day but he doesn't inspire me with confidence with his casual dilly dallying with the ball it's nearly got us in deep trouble a few times will be good for a year but no long term solution we need a quality young keeper too
Bensfcno1 Posted 19 April, 2013 Posted 19 April, 2013 Neil Lennon named him in his 'played with 11' above Keller.
OfnPanad Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Even better than Niemi IMHO. Steady on! Even in the "Saints vs Legends" game the old man version of Niemi was still all but unbeatable. Niemi was the best keeper the club has ever had (before anyone mentions Shilton, or even Flowers, standards have improved since their time). Don't get me wrong, Boruc is looking very good and I'm glad he signed but Niemi was an elite 'keeper.
pingwing Posted 20 April, 2013 Posted 20 April, 2013 Signing up and after todays performance (and general form) he'll aways be bought a pint by me now

Niemi was very good, but he was also not fit to lace Shilton's boots, the two statements are not incompatible. Shilton was a world player, regardless of 'standards have improved' (whatever that might mean?).

Shilton was a world player, regardless of 'standards have improved' (whatever that might mean?). I saw both and you couldn't fit a cigarette paper between them in terms of ability. I'd give Niemi the edge on pure shot stopping, Shilts was brilliant but Niemi was unbelievable at times. However i'd give Shilts the vote over command of area, he was always barking at the defence telling them where to be whereas Niemi was quieter. TBH I'd have either, they were both awesome keepers.
100% Saint Posted 21 April, 2013 Posted 21 April, 2013 Come on now we definitely need to make him a song he is a mad-man but still an amazing goalie. He is Poland's No.1 since Wojciech Szczęsny has gone awol in cofindence so why can't he be our No.1 for the next few years.

Shilton was a world player, regardless of 'standards have improved' (whatever that might mean?). Niemi was one of the best 'keepers in Europe in the 03/04 season if you asked me. He had the best saves per shot on target ratio of any 'keeper in the Premiership that year. I never saw Shilton play but I don't think I've ever seen a 'keeper who Niemi was not worthy of lacing their boots.

Alternatively he has been on the waccy-baccy. Edited 25 April, 2013 by VectisSaint

If this is the aim then our transfer activity this summer should be v.interesting. I won't be putting any money on it myself though.
