Red and White Stripes Black Shorts next year

The current red kit is the best for years and looks great on the pitch. Much smarter than the old fashioned red and white stripes and black shorts, historical as that may be. This is a new era. We are now a new exciting Saints heading for Europe and need a modern look.

At the start of the season I would have shouted you down for this, but now I agree...

I love this year's kit, actually makes a nice change, the red color is not the same as Liverpool's. With already 2 teams going with red and white stripes (Stoke and Sunderland), I am less inclined to revert back to that. A new area, new ambitions, new identity and a new strip.

One of them may be missing next year, whilst another "new red" team, Cardiff, comes up.

I am all for Addidas giving us an inverted Ajax top with black shorts, hence re-creating the Rank Xerox kit.

What a load of balls. Bring back the stripes.

Was a fan of the current kit from the day it was announced and it's only grown on me more as I've watched us play in it. The photo of Lambert's celebration after scoring at The Etihad has become quite iconic, if we'd held them at bay it'd rank as an all-time classic.

Well if it is a load of balls surely we should be going back to the sash...?

This season's kit isn't as awful as many make out. IMO it's okay, but nothing special.

Clean stripes would be an improvement (not the messy Sanderson type chevron-stripes we had in the 90s though, they were awful).

The two shirts I liked best were the Sash and the Air Florida. Either of those returning would be superb.

Serious note. No club in red and white stripes has ever excelled at the very top level - Europe.

Us, Sunderland, Stoke, Sheffield United.

All perennial underachievers.

By contrast since 76 look at the success of teams in red: Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Bayern Munich...

There is some psychology going on here. Teams can't cope when the opposition plays in red.

Red Star Belgrade play in red and white stripes and they won the European Cup in 1991.

Yeah i'd like that too. Am fed up with the yellow away strip though would like to see something like this.

So we should be in all white then? Or red and blue stripes. Or blue and black. Red and black. Wait, what about black and white? This psychology thing is complicated...

I mean, I'm sure it can't be the much simpler explanation that Man United, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are much bigger clubs with better players than Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland. Far more likely to be the colour of the top they're wearing.

When does the era of european domination start for Walsall?

I completely disagree with everything you have said.

We are not Forest, we are not Liverpool, WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON!!!!

Red and White STRIPES all the way - I will NOT buy a Southampton kit again until it is Red and White Stripes. If they abandon stripes I will continue to wear the numerous red and white kits that I have already got - I will save myself some money and the club will lose out on it. Simple as that!

As for shorts - No to Red shorts, Yes to black shorts. Also I continue to be a fan of maintaining some black trim. Both of these factors are what makes us distinct from Sunderland and Stoke. Red and whites stripes with black and white trim (and possibly some extra red trim too like in the 70s kit) is a distinct Southampton look.

I strongly disagree. We've had a change for a couple of years. Now it's time to get back to the red-and-white stripes and black shorts - as a definitive message that says, "Hey, we're back, and we're here to stay!"

Maybe have the red coming more onto the front, but could live with the home version deffo.

Dont like the away version colours, we'd loose our players in the crowd a la the Manyoo butt-f**king. A blue-light blue version as in the Patrick era would look interesting.
