Saints to finish eight and relegate Stoke on the last day of the season??!!

I had a go at the prediction league on BBC and I think there is a possibility that we could end up finishing as high as eight and then we could relegate Stoke on the last day. This is partly based on us maintaining very good form and Swansea, West Brom and Fulham finishing with indifferent form, so I am not for a moment suggesting is what will happen - just that it is not beyond the bounds of realistic possibility! :)

8th even with a draw and a loss in the last 5.....didn´t think that was possible....

But I actually rather would us to finish 10th so we can start the "best quotes of the year"-thread with all the "we cant finish 10th-quotes".... :D

Good luck with that. You might find a few people saying in their opinion we won't finish 10th, don't think You'll find a single person saying we can't.

I think you should maybe resize your image.

We can finish 8th, it's just not as likely as coming 11th or 12th.

29th April (Villa v Sunderland) and 6th May (Sunderland v Stoke) will be the games I think will determine who will go down, plus Wigan v Villa on the last day, three massive 6-pointers.

Highly unlikely. Would love to finish tenth in front of West Ham and relegate Stoke. They are a shocking team and have some nasty fans as I found out returning from a Championship match from The Britannia and some tosser threw a bottle at me out of his car for no reason on the M6. Harwell Saint and Noodles34 will testify to this!

Fair. I will still love the thread of "we won´t finish 10th-quotes". Could probably be a better one, I´ll give you that.

Here are the figures anyway : http://www.sportsclubstats.com/England/Premier.html

% Chances of us coming every position from 7th downwards (note that 0 means under 0.5% but still possible, outside this range is impossible) :

7th--8th--9th--10th--11th--12th--13th-14th-15th-16th-17th-|-18th-19th

0-----2---- 7----14----19----21---15---10----6----3----1---|--0----0

We already can't come bottom due to QPR and Reading playing each other.

Overall chance of coming 8th = 2%

Overall chance of coming 10th = 14%

Overall chance of coming 10th or above = 23%

Overall chance of coming 14th or below = 20%

Overall chance of relegation = 0.2%

Stoke's chances of relegation are currently 10.9%, by the way.

Incredibly optimisitc predictions I feel.

Don't think we'll get another point this season unfortunately.

Yeah, that's going well...

Chelsea: Loss,

Reading: Loss,

West Ham: Loss,

Swansea: Loss,

West Brom: Loss,

Spurs: Loss,

Sunderland: Loss,

Stoke: Loss.

Don't think we'll get another point this season.

Did this myself yesterday, had Saints in tenth and Stoke, QPR and Reading taking the drop.

I despise Stoke.

So bored of Pulis and that stupid hat. His constant moaning. His anti-football approach to football.

The whole novelty of look, they are roughing up the big guns has long since worn off. They are just a bunch of over-sized nasty thugs who kick lumps out of anyone that has the temerity to actually play football. All they do is pump the ball into the box and see what happens.

Would love to be the team that relegated them. Would have Wigan in the Prem over them any day.

Last week Sunderland were certain for the drop. Then they win and now it's Stoke. If they win this week it will be Norwich. Football fans are a fickle lot.

Thing with Sunderland is, they made a change. They were dropping like a stone and made a bold move to change it. They did ok against Chelsea, and a 3-0 win away to Newcastle, in a Derby, is a decent start for Di Canio.

Stoke are doing what they have been doing for years, but with much less success. It has also been noted how the Britannia is not the fortress it once was, they simply aren't as hard to play against as they once were.

I understand what you are getting at, and we are a fickle bunch (myself firmly included), but I think this case is slightly different.

Whilst I agree, at least Stoke are well supported. Wigan support is embarrassing. Happily see them dissapear and not come back.

What a coincidence! I was in the local Chemists on Tuesday picking up a Prescription for my neighbours wife (he's 99 she's 83) when I was tapped on the shoulder by a Copper in full flak jacket, extendable truncheon, cuffs and all the bits and pieces hanging from his belt. I almost 'dropped one' as I was illegally parked. He said "Christ you're lucky to be supporting a decent team." (he had seen my Saints badge on my Fleece.) "You know Stoke? We're going down and you're on the way to Europe. I'll be there for the last game of the season and want to see you get a 'bucketful' just to kick the sh.t out of that wa....r Pulis. How the hell you let a three goal advantage at ours run away I'll never know" I've seen him a couple of times since and he gives me the 'Thumbs up'.

i hope you told him he was factually incorrect and we gave away a 2 goal lead at theirs.

I know what you mean.

But I find it hard to blame the club for that. They just happen to be in a mainly Rugby town, in between Manchester & Liverpool.

I like Dave Whelan, and I'm a big fan of Roberto Martinez. I think they have done really well to stay in the league so long considering they are constantly selling their best players, and spend quite little. Martinez gets them playing some good football too, at least (well, from March onwards ;) )

When Martinez leaves them, they'll sink like a stone imo.

I can see the logic of all those scores. But, I think you're predicting one win too many for Saints. So - I think we're looking at 9th! :)

Turks. My Grandsons were mascots at Stoke and we scored THREE. Maybe not a 3 goal LEAD but we still gave it away. I'll remind him next time I see him.

We led 3-1, your copper said "How the hell you let a three goal advantage at ours run away I'll never know" We never had a 3 goal advantage, it was a 2 goal advantage.

8th is a bit optimistic...I think personally we will come 14th.

Don't think we'll finish as high as 8th, more like 11-12th IMO.

I accept all of that - in my original post I did point out that I had maybe been a bit optimistic in terms of Saints results (mainly in terms of us beating Swansea on Saturday) and that I had been a bit pessimistic about the results for some other teams. My point was that it was not beyond the bounds of possibility - and I don't think those predictions are wholly unlikely. I certainly think that Saints will finish between 8th and 12th. As for who will be relegated with Reading and QPR, I think it is too close to call - it could be anyone out of Stoke, Aston Villa, Wigan, Sunderland, Norwich or Newcastle (although I would expect Norwich and Newcastle to be ok).

I thought mine was quite realistic yet still had us finishing ninth just by a point ahead of fulham in tenth with wigan going down after losing to Villa on the last day of the season (the margins were so slim that a wigan win would have sent norwich down!).

I also had Stoke in a fairly comfortable 13th 6 points away from the drop with them having beaten Norwich and QPR to secure their survival.

Not sure it deserves another thread so thought i'd throw it in here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22143766 the bbc doesnt even have us as candidates for the drop!

That's because we currently have a 0.2% chance of relegation.

Newcastle 4.3%

Norwich 6.4%

Sunderland 6.5%

Stoke 9.8%

Villa 28.5%

Wigan 45.2%

Reading and QPR 99.5% each.

I don't think we'll get any points from west brom, but I agree the other results are probably fair! Can see us doing well against Swansea particularly as we held them well to a draw at home! Then perhaps a bit of a choke before ending up 9-11th hopefully! I think as a saints fan the nerves are still ingrained in me and I still find myself hoping the likes of Wigan and stoke keep losing

Disagree. I think we will end up on 41 points, just squeezing home.

BTW, if we only get 38 points I predict we will be relegated.

You're entiteld to your opinion but your track record isn't the greatest is it? FWIW I think your prediction of 41 points is close, but I think we'll get slightly more and as a result we will be safe from relegation going into the final day of the season.

Very much agree with this.

Also apart from Saints I wish Norwich and Newcastle stay up. Newcastle are a PL team and despite their unbalanced squad they play some good football going forward and Norwich are a fairly decent team, Carrow Road is a nice ground and although I don't particularly like Chris "cold feet" Hughton I have a lot of respect for the fact that Delia (as annoying as she may sound) uses her expertise to create an important income stream for the club.
