The thing I'll say about this is, when Clyne went out for a couple of games this season, it was Cork that filled in at right back and not Richardson. That makes me wonder if they could see he's not up to it.

Actually Richardson came in for an injured Clyne against Fulham and then went off injured himself before half time. I actually thought he was doing OK up to that point as well.

Especially as Cork is a bloody awful right back.

before you knock Richardson and Sharp, just remember the following team is still under contract to saints:

Forecast

Butterfield Martin Seaborne Dickson

Forte Hammond Chaplow de Ridder

Barnard Lee

This goes to prove that Saints really are no longer a "selling club".

Does it not just prove that we're paying too much for players who don't want to leave and take a pay cut ?

Prehaps but not all of those players are usless. Chaplow, Hammond more than did their bit to get us back to the prem.

Using them sticking around, when in many cases no-one wants to pay what they're currently getting, as evidence of our ability to keep players isn't relevant to the case that we're good at holding on to players people actually DO want.

Our ability to keep the likes of Lallana, Shaw, Schneiderlin etc is what will determine our "selling" status, not if we can hang on to Lee Barnard and Johnno Quick by paying them Prem reserve money ahead of teams prepared to give them League One wages.

Chaplow's out of contract in the summer anyway, I think, and guaranteed to be released unless we keep him week to week until he's recovered from injury, which would be a nice gesture but probably not in the club's mindset any more.

Keeper aside, and switching De Ridder and Forte to the other's flanks, but that team would do Portsmouth very well in League Two next season!

With a decent goalkeeper that side would be play-off contenders at least in League One. Does lack Lambert, Lallana and Fonte from the side we went up with though which is a pretty good spine to have missing, so they might be nearer our position in 2010 rather than 2011.
