Dark Days. Millwall. Newcastle

Really hope we don't go back to those dark days with all that trouble.

Its brilliant to see all the families going to St Mary's.

I thought the skates were "Football League family club of the year" in 2012? Being the most obvious skate I've ever seen on here you'd know that though? Plenty of inbred types there swapping DNA. Personally I'll keep going with my pals.

Good to see the Saintsweb cyber-bullying is still going strong. Nothing wrong with the thread and (Jackanory), what has he said that makes him a skate?

never called him that myself, as for bullying? I guess you haven't been bullied before.

My point, is that firstly it is not even related to us, but the poster felt the need (as he ususally does) to post a completely random comment, no real substance to it and he wont even comment again until he posts another theread, which will be along the lines of "Have we now forgiven Cortese...".

Obviously you felt the thread was sp worthwhile you haven't even commented on the OP, except to bully someone else.

'Wall are steeped in the tradition of violence and are drawn from what was originally a Bermondsey/Rotherhithe/Deptford criminal and prison fodder sub-culture going back many generations, a couple of hundred years at least. Now they are mostly moved out to Bexleyheath, Chiselhurst, Erith and into Kent.

Far prefer that in many ways to the bankers and their lawyer wives, alongside the tourists that make up Chelsea and Arsenal's home support these days.

and the award for yet another pointless thread goes to......

No one said you have to comment on it......

I for one think there is a bit thuggery creeping back in to football matches. I know most of it is organised and generally away from the grounds but there is a small bit starting to make its way in to the stands. We have seen a lot of it this weekend. Shame.

Not a good weekend for football, Newcastle fans have a fair few idiots, Millwall well they are just the same as ever. Oh and those great scouse fans and their classy banners! :-(

As do we, those who applaud someone getting a smack amongst our own fans, because he supports the opposition, and just look at the 'Charming' man's post at 9, says it all about the limited intelligence of some football fans imo.

Sadly, a lot of chavs go to football which is why the rest of us have to be segregated and can’t have a beer at our seat.

Personally, while I love football and Saints, I only go to watch Rugby live as it’s a much more enjoyable and sociable day out.

I personally don't see the problem with it. Finally a bit of passion seeping back into our game.

Making you a disillusioned moron. 'I love my team and am so passionate about them that I'm going to...... punch a horse??'

There's nothing to do with passion in the violence seen this weekend. Just an outlet for those with violent tendencies to channel them through. Would you still be applauding their 'passion' as one of your relatives gets caught up in it? 'Fans' with attitudes such as your own are not welcome (in my view of course) to watch football at St. Mary's.

I don't find it so. I just have to put up with having my view of the game interrupted as some yuppie with his collar up goes to get a beer every 10 minutes and shows more interest in obnoxiously banging on about his sexual conquests then watching the game. Obviously talking from a couple of specific, unpleasant experiences at the rugby here..

I really don't condone any type of violence at football, and was really saddened to see the frightened kids mixed in with the Millwall tossers, no need whatsoever.

BUT I really did find that very funny, what was it all about. Why the hell did he want to punch a horse ffs. I was hoping that the copper would just trample all over the thick geordie pillock - he got off lightly.

I see this has made it onto the Mirror website as well...

Nice one Trousers ;)

Now the relatively good reputation of out club gets linked with thuggery elsewhere when the sensible thing would have been for those affected by the anti- social behaviour to have had a quiet word with the stewards who would have dealt with it without Saints fans getting involved.

Completely agree with your sentiment, but have to admit the punching of the horse was very funny. I would be in favour of seeing more scumbags v animal matchups outside football grounds, except the coppers should employ a wider variety of animal e.g. Giraffes or maybe even set up a shark tank.

from what i've read on here people did tell the stewards who either did nothing at first or took ages to do anything by which time a few Saints fans had enough of the mouthy cockneys & decided to take matters in their own hands.

funny that the stewards can be quick to hasle our own fans normaly but were slow of the mark dealing with this.

CCTV cameras have picked up Millwall fans openly taking cocaine according to the Standard. This definitely isn't acceptable and doesn't show at bit of spirit. Kids will soon be prevented by parents attending unless this is not snipped in the bud.

Fans with attitudes like yours sound like you would be more suited to watching rugby and high fiving opposition supporters when they score a try, all in the name of 'banter' of course.

It was probably one of the kids you're so worried about, taking so long in a cubicle that led to them having to have a little livener in the open.

I'm pretty sure I'm on the side of right here. I enjoy the tribalism nature of football support, it is what separates it from other sports. There is a line though and when it gets crossed, you see some very disturbing scenes. I don't even know why I'm giving you time of day really. You sound like an odious human being to come out with that after the scenes this weekend.

I'm not sure there are many people surprised at seeing Millwall fans doing this. Just recently it was racism, uncovered by Sky and their undercover reporting, now they're fighting amongst themselves live on TV. You've got to be pretty special to do that in the first place, but to do it in a stadium so well covered by CCTV during a live on TV game is something else.

The other similar story I saw from the weekend, was Stoke fans taunting Man Utd fans about the Munich disaster. Being that disrespectful to the dead just about tops Millwall racists fighting each other.

Am i alone in thinking it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the media made it out and the hysterical tart reactions everywhere that seems to have become fashionable?

They weren't exactly acting like the most clued-up people in the world - but why blindly throw the 'racist' tag in there?

In this pic I see a white bloke with a bloodied face, white blokes throwing punches at each other & a black bloke stood there without a care in the world. The media would have loved a pic of a black bloke covered in blood but sadly (for them) it didn't happen...

I sort of agree with you in the way that it has been reported by some parts of the media. ESPN saying we can show you some stuff but there are some things that are so bad that we can't show it to you. That was obviously not true, they showed the worst of it. But photo's like that are horrible to see and you cannot call anyone who condemns it a tart, even if you are a puristic protagonist such as yourself.

Im not condoning it. But having seen loads of photos and about 10 different clips, some of them on youtube filmed by people inside the ground it just doesn't seem to be anywhere near as bad as is being made out and the reaction has been hysterical. Seen far, far worse over the years. I guess because of the occasion and it's so rare to see any actual fighting inside grounds these days that it's been blown up.

This doesn't make sense. That picture purports to be from the game itself, but none of the slightly scummy looking people pictured are wearing replica shirts. Are you sure it's not a fake?

There were 29 arrests after the Newcastle game, there were well over 100 arrests on NYE in Newcastle city centre. Millwall there was about 20 people scrapping in the ground, I've seen bigger and worse fights at gigs with similar attendances. People need to have a bit of perspective and not get swept up in the media frenzy.

As a tart I think it's totally unacceptable - at any match. I don't want my kids subjected to it, I don't want anybody else's kids subjected to it. If I go to a game - I go to watch football, that's what I expect to see - football.

OK - in the grand context of the 'whole' it was only a very small minority - but, as I am a tart, I think it was totally unacceptable. The point is, as somebody who started to go to games in the early 70's, and seeing how far we have come - if we accept this, how long before we start to go backwards.

I want to see the re-introduction of standing areas, relaxed drinking rules at grounds etc - but how far back do 'one off' events such as this take those aspirations.

Hysterical, no. Tart, if you like - but with good reason.

Now that's a very good point - and i do think it's being overplayed to some extent - i can easily see people using things like this to oppose safe standing (even if it does actually show that it's not standing that causes violence!)

never seen a yob in a replica shirt, same as against West Ham not many colours in away end

Problem is that football violence is usually accompanied by high quality video shots which fill up the vast hours of news time in the media. Hence it gets played over and over again and the mole hill becomes a mountain.

A few balding, paunchy 40 somethings who should know a lot better give themselves a little excitement in their otherwise nondescript and drab lives by throwing badly directed and techncially poor haymaker punches in the direction of like minded individuals. Not really the big deal everyone makes out and happens every Friday night in City Centres up and down the country on a much larger scale. But yes they are pathetic creatures who should have stopped all this nonsense in their late teens (back in 1983 perhaps when it was a lot cooler). That said I like the tribal nature of football and the undercurrent of violence that comes with it which creates the atmosphere of a match that most of us love.

Certainly a hysterical reaction - just look at the archive footage of Luton-Milwall 1985 for some proper hooliganism. 2013 was a relative picnic.

When we played 'wall at the Dell in '78 the game was dull as ditchwater and it was far more entertaining watching the continual skirmishing between saints and 'wall in the Milton, separated by, literally, a thin blue line of coppers. No tv, no press, just get on with it and go home.

There's something rather pleasing about a bit of a scrap like the one at Wembley when we live in such a sanitised, risk averse, health and safety obsessed world. Hopefully no one tripped over and hurt themselves on their way out of the ground!

I have supported Saints before you were born mate.

I was part of the book Suited and Booted by Duncan Holley and David Bull, do you know who they are even?

Have some respect mate.

I am working with Duncan on the next book All The Saints coming out soon. David Bull who writes in the Saints programme is checking all the text.

Can all tell this **** to keep his facts straight.

We are hoping this book which is over 550 printed pages will be available this year.

A lot of hard work has been worked on over the last five years or so.

Check Duncan's last publication 'In That Number'.

You can place orders on Hagiology Publishing or contact Duncan Holley.
