If you could get one play in now who would it be? Realistic options

Shaw needs a top left-back to learn from, and Danny Fox isn't it. I don't want to be one of his boo boys but certainly I've been disappointed by him this season. Shaw also can't play every game of the season at his age as he'll burn out and it can be damaging long term.

As for options for that position, I've no idea who to suggest.

Loic Remy.

In fact, my summer business would be - Loic Remy (offer us options down the flanks, as well as through the middle. Sheer pace and power)

Davide Astori (Real class and ability on the left side of defense. Would be a straight upgrade)

Emmerson Boyce (A real all-rounder. Can play right back, left back, centre back, DM, Right midfield.). All squads need a player like him and I don't think we have that. I also really rate him, has never looked out of place for Wigan.

Michu. What might have been. :(

I'm not sure. If we had bought Michu there is no way we would have played him where he plays for Swansea. He is a midfielder who they use as their most furthest forward striker, a number 9 almost. Had he been at Saints, there is no way he would be playing instead of Lambert or Rodriquez, and is he therefore the type of midfielder who fits the style of Lallana, Ramirez, Punch or even Davis.

My guess is not really, so without changing our system he would have provided probably a useful option off the bench, but certainly not the impact he has had in South Wales.

Not sure how old these fellas are but bear in mind our strategy will be young players.

Right now? Right this moment in time? Kone, to derail Wigan's great escape. All the relegation strugglers are picking up points except Wigan because of their cup run, and nicking one of their key players would not help in their quest to earn points. As in the summer? A big centre back beast with talent please, or an attacking midfieder to play in the 3.

What is a realistic option? Unless we know the budget we can't speculate too much (everyone has their price).

£2.6bn, I heard.

I'd sign a bloody good top flight centre back. Someone like Lescott, except still motivated and with lower contract expectations. Seeing as we haven't got to the point of selling naming rights to Staplewood yet and all...

Not at St Mary's he wasn't, Clyne dealt with him easily. Don't let his goal against us fool you, he was poor (well against Clyne anyway).

Coutinho was probably Liverpool's best player against us. Excellent touch every time he had the ball and a range of quick and longer passing no-one else on the pitch had, excellent dribbler too. Took him a while to get going though, and he was the best of a bad bunch. Clyne had a hell of a job on his hands that day and did his best.

An exceptionally ambitous move for Micah Richards. Centre half for next few years.

I'm expecting him to pitch up somewhere like Sunderland soon, his ship has sailed and he's not getting near having games for City any more. 3 league appearances all season and 25 by the start of next season. He also hasn't played centre back for years.

If we'd bought Michu instead of Ramirez, I reckon we'd be 6-8 points better off (not to mention £10m better off). We may even have beaten Bradford in the League Cup Final ;)

Of course, if my Auntie had balls ...

Slightly out of budget I'd think!

Not withstanding that, who would he replace as a regular starter? Surely too good / much money for a squad player? Would you drop JRod and SRL for him right now? Not sure I would.

I think we have to accept that as we progress up the echelons there will be some rotation. Rooney doesn't play every week, Torres and Ba seem to alternate. Anyway it's just a bit of a whimsical idea of mine, Torres will return to Spain this summer I think, unless of course Rafa gets a "big job" elsewhere.

Coutinho and Michu aren't realistic, former has just moved and the latter will move to a big club for £20 million I reckon.

Also Micah Richards for centre-back? has terrible positiong and never convinced in that position, not to mention is injury prone.

Realistic targets are probably players already linked like Astori (although Caligiari are sitting 10th now in Serie A), Sinclair and Adrian. Wouldn't say no to Remy but you'd wonder how long he'd be here and how much a week we would have to pay him.

Shawcross is a good shout, especially if Stoke go down but rekcon there would be competition from the likes of Spurs.

Definitely a versatile wide player with pace and quality centre-back should be key.

I'd have a look at Holland, Strootman and Lens from PSV, Alderweireld from Ajax.

Shawcross would be my first choice, but think he might go to a bigger club this summer.

Lescott would be 2nd choice, but don't think we would meet his wage demands.

Astori may be a possibility.

Micah Richards could offer cover for CB and RB, but not sure about him as a first choice.

Basically, if we could only fill one position whilst keeping the squad we have now, I would go for a CB. As I would have done in January. Quite why we signed Forren then is beyond me, given his lack of appearances thus far. I only hope that after a pre-season with us he turns out to be one of our best players next season.

Why are we looking at players all already at their peak generally? Most of these players are past their mid-20's......lets develop the existing group with more great players with great potential. Otherwise we go back too easily to buying journeymen like we once did.

Shawcross is 25, so fits perfectly.

CBs don't usually peak until late 20's.
