Horton Heath Saint Posted 13 April, 2013 Posted 13 April, 2013 35000 40000 50000? Or new ground? Think our present location is crap. Cheap option for Lowe. Really depressing walk to St Marys
JackanorySFC Posted 13 April, 2013 Posted 13 April, 2013 Poor effort from our resident skate here. The threads I start on POL are at least subtle. Once again you've put a target on your head. Mods, bin this clown off eh?
Saint_Jonny Posted 13 April, 2013 Posted 13 April, 2013 A walk in the ****ing wind rain is always depressing. Buy a coat.
Horton Heath Saint Posted 13 April, 2013 Author Posted 13 April, 2013 Saints supporter before you were born. Guess you have been drinking all day. Grow up nipper.
John Boy Saint Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 A walk in the ****ing wind rain is always depressing. Buy a coat. I had my new coat on yesterday, worked very nicely thank you in that horrible wet rain!
CB Fry Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 35000 40000 50000? Or new ground? Think our present location is crap. Cheap option for Lowe. Really depressing walk to St Marys Care to run through all the other stadium location "options" we had at the time?
Bucks Saint Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Yeah present location is awful. Please please NC can we just buy Ocean Village , knock down all the flash apartments and put it there
CB Saint Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Agree , we should move, it takes too long to get out of town. If we put in fareham, it would be a lot more convenient.
david in sweden Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 35000 40000 50000? Or new ground? Think our present location is crap. Cheap option for Lowe. Really depressing walk to St Marys If for no other reason..it's the right historical choice, and parking is a little better option than it was at The Dell, but whichever way you look at it ....it's better than Fratton - don't you think ?
danner Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 I can't see who we would sell st Mary's too though, too expensive to buy, knock down and build houses on. Location doesn't exactly showcase he best of southampton to visiting fans and tha ****ing bridge ... Think they'll extend to 40k
paulwantsapint Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 If the council let NC buy the land around the ground to develop it will start to improve the whole area if not whole city
niceandfriendly Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Location isn't something you can complain about with SMS really. So close to the centre of town.
Wes Tender Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 I was just thinking that it was long overdue that we had a thread on the stadium, whether we should expand it or move. Heartfelt thanks and eternal gratitude to Horton Heath Saint for raising this on behalf of all of us. We need more posters of his calibre to express so eloquently in writing what we are all thinking. Well done that man.
smackalec Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 I really don't think it's that bad getting away from the ground. We got in the car at just gone 5 and was home by 6.30 last night, and we live in Weymouth. If they get the go ahead for the improvements around the ground then I think it will be ideal. It's walking distance from the station, short walk from town. Actually think its quite a good location.
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Why is the present location crap, exactly? SMS is exactly where it should be in close proximity to the city centre. I hate grounds that are located on the outskirts of town with nothing around for miles.
The Kraken Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 I've always thought our ground should be housed on a man made island in the middle of Southampton Water. Lovely views over Netley Castle and Royal Victoria Country Park, and if the club could remove those monstrous chimneys at Fawley, that would be great. Quite what they were thinking building a ground in a city centre of all places, I just don't know.
Mattio Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Did the West Ham fans saying that you live in a sh*thole make you sad? Where else can you suggest that's better?

Quite what they were thinking building a ground in a city centre of all places, I just don't know. Bristol Rovers used to have flower beds behind the goals at their old Eastville ground, that was a nice touch too Location doesn't exactly showcase he best of southampton to visiting fans...Think they'll extend to 40k I think it showcases Southampton perfectly, in the perfect birthplace of the club, exactly where a football stadium should be in the heart of the community. If it makes the opposition a little wary or intimidated on arriving then mores the better. But I agree, get it up to 40k at some point and that'll do nicely. But put a better roof on the place, the acoustics are sh*te.
colehillsaint Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 It's a great place for the ground. What else would be happening on that site? It's good for walking in from many parts of the city. The car travel from the M271 was made worse by the lights to exit IKEA, but getting traffic away from a football ground is always fraught. It's a bit odd that the work on the Redbridge roundabout was not left until May.
Wes Tender Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Did the West Ham fans saying that you live in a sh*thole make you sad? Where else can you suggest that's better? I appreciated the irony of them saying that Southampton is a sh*thole when their place is such a dirty, run down dump, the unwiped backside of London
eelpie Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Bristol Rovers used to have flower beds behind the goals at their old Eastville ground, that was a nice touch too So what. St Mary's comes with our own water features and all the way to the city centre too (on days like this). It cannot be said that any stadium is more pleasing to the eye (except when West Ham are on the pitch). We do not need to relocate to Ocean Village.
adrian lord Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 (edited) Why do people expect to be able to drive and park directly outside the ground and get away promptly? Park strategically well away but near to your exit motorway, and walk to the ground, via the pub or a restaurant. On capacity: no point in half-measures, in for a penny in for a pound. 100,000 to trump Old Trafford even of they extend their top tier all the way round. Edited 14 April, 2013 by adrian lord

Really depressing walk to St Marys Not been to many grounds that takes you through tree covered avenues with hanging baskets, of course we could move to Horton Heath , oh forgot Eastleigh council did not want us.
S-Clarke Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Did the West Ham fans saying that you live in a sh*thole make you sad? Where else can you suggest that's better? They haven't been to fratton then. Or Boro - now that ground is in a proper ugly location, horrible. The key with our ground and the future of it, is the purchase of the land and industrial units around it. If we can do that, which I'm sure we'll be looking to do, we could make every attractive looking complex. Location wise, it's good. Not far from the main train station, main bus routes and close to all the pubs and clubs. Not forgetting the potential to have a rail link right next to the stadium. The last thing I want is a stadium smack bang in the middle of no where, ala Brighton.
Toadhall Saint Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Nothing wrong with the location IMHO - couldn't get much closer to where we started out. As for depressing walking to SMS are you for real? What exactly would you like to cast your eyes on eh?

Totally agree - the potential of the location is enormous if the club can get hold of the industrialised area around it.
Patrick Bateman Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Absolutely nothing wrong with the location at all. Out of town grounds are sh*t.
ringwood Posted 14 April, 2013 Posted 14 April, 2013 Location yes its rubbish if you live out of town, took me over an hour to get out of town last night, but mainly I guess due to the roadworks. But that said its my choice where I live, Far rather have an in city ground than an out of town ground with no pubs in walking distance, think Reebok, Boro as two grounds built at a similar time, if we'd been out at Eastleigh there'd be hardly any walking fans
