Fair result, IMO. Difficult to break through West Hams very solid defense, and they had a couple of big chances as well. Thought we played quite nice from time to time, but we struggled to create clear cut chances.

He really does have an uncanny knack of letting down otherwise decent performances with stupid, needless mistakes.

Read this quoted in another post below and thought you were talking about Ramirez, who really was the weak link in the team today. His goal was his only meaningful contribution. Looked so much better with Rodriguez on the pitch. Didn't think it was a free kick, but I was some distance away. Boruc was positioned fine, it just took a heavydeflection.

Standouts for me were Clyne (MoM), cork and Davis.

draw was a fair result. ramirez, what a frustrating player, one moment he's cooly finishing past the keeper and the next he's giving away balls or wasting free kicks. i think if we're looking to improve on this season and push for a top half finish next season, players like fox, jos and punch need replacing as while they're ok, they're not good enough for a team with top half ambitions. oh and i think jrod is going to be a key player for us next season

Based on the dodgy stream I was watching, all I can say is that I'm glad I don't watch WH every week...

Trust me, if you were there you'd be glad you don't watch West Ham every week.

Fat Sam teams play horrible football

West Ham - effective but ugly to watch to say the very least. They managed, at times, to bring us down to their dirty level. We did play some of our good football, but were definitely hindered by an efficient, physical, and well-structured WHU.

Take a point under those circumstances. Very easily could have been three, mind - or zilch!

Can we at least put this "top six next season" nonsense to bed now?

Thought West ham had the upper hand, bullied us off the ball. A point was probably not a bad result to be honest.

Dirtiest team we've played this season - and that includes QPR. Any other ref than Dean would've sent at least three of their players off.

Couldn't disagree more. Yes gastons delivers were poor but Lallana was worse. Ramirez was brave and wanted the ball and tried to create things even tho there was no pace infront if him where as Lallana didn't do anything if not at all. He had an opportunity to dummy in first half and leave Morgan one on one and then before he went off he had an opportunity to slip a through ball to gaston but tried to beat his man lost ball and fouled him.clybe and cork mom for me. J rod looks superhuman at no.

The football was never going to be pretty with the oposition and the weather, under the circumstances I am content with a point. It pushes us closer to safety. :D

Kraken ratings for the game:

Boruc: 6. Never really had much to do; as ever tried to get us going quickly from the back. Not much he could do about the goal, although it wasn't a great wall.

Clyne: 8. Superb in defence (Jarvis never got a sniff) and a real threat going forwards. Just needs to add that ability to find the killer ball when he gets forward into good positions.

Fox: 6. Got skinned early on by Vaz Te but otherwise ok, a solid display.

Yoshida: 6. Did well but could quite easily have gifted Carroll a goal when Yoshi completely mistimed his jump for a header; we got lucky when Carroll shot wide.

Hooiveld: 6: Once again from Jos a decent performance but a reckless and needless foul gave away the free kick that led to their goal.

Cork: 9, MOTM. Superb throughout, he must be horrible to play against as he's just a complete nuisance with his harrying. If he could add goals to his game he'd be a shoo in for England.

Schneiderlin: 7. A quietly effective game from Morgan, perhaps subdued by his early yellow. Still efficient and kept us ticking.

Lallana: 5. Off colour and never really got going.

Ramirez: 6. Similar to Lallana but got the goal. Simply appalling set piece deliveries, please for goodness sake MP get someone else to take them in future.

Davis: 7. Tidy display, didn't do much wrong.

Lambert: 6. Was often isolated up top and missed JRod. So close to a goal but for a great Jaaskelainen save, but otherwise didn't have the best of service to feed off.

Subs:

Rodriguez: 8. Excellent display in a limited time and makes you wonder what might have been had he been available for 90 minutes. Has become a key player for us under MP.

Puncheon: 6. Didn't really do much but did ok.

Win would have been nice, but content with the draw. West Ham are a physical team and defend solidly. We pulled away from Norwich and nobody else around us won. Great to be in a position where our concerns are whereabouts in mid-table we finish, particularly given our start. Would love to finish top half and a win v Swansea next week could put us level with them.

Pretty happy overall with today, especially with the late shenanigans going on at the bottom of League 1.

Shame the armchair fans are giving Jos some stick, imo he played well against the most difficult centre forward in the league, Carroll is not a great player but knows, with Nolan, how to give defenders a hard time.

All Hammers fans of my age bracket must despair at the type of football they now play, at least when Saints flirted with Branfoots style the fans hounded him out.

A few on here slating Hooiveld, it looked like a fair challenge to me at the time but I haven't seen it again. I thought both defences were comfortable and neither keeper had much to do, with the ball mostly being played in the middle of the pitch. West Ham came for a point, and got it, but it was a fair result I think. A point closer to safety.

What went wrong today then lads? Bit of disaster all round. Have away a lead again against a team man for man we are far superior than. The expected rout after the first goal went in never happened and even that useless carthorse Andy caroll managed to get on the score sheet. Bit of a shocker all round really to fail to best such a dreadful team and allow a pub player to score against our top 6 defence. Surely one of the worst results of the season in view of the circumstances. Who is to blame?

5 players had a virus all week. 2 key players out for us. J rod is key as lambert can drop deeper where he is tough to pick up and gastons strengths are through balls and missing j rod made it tough for him. The conditions suited them completely. We didn't lose dispite this and we are really safe. Just highlights we need another centre back in summer and j rid has become vital to us and shaw. Overall, we are in great shape.

Not really. If we're struggling against sides as poor as West Ham without two players then dreams of a 6th placed finish with no additions to this squad are pie in the sky I'm afraid. We couldn't even beat dreadful West Ham FFS!

Liverpool are pretty much 6th and couldn't beat them or even score against them last week with their full team available in perfect sunshine so not quite sure ur logic.?

We'll make a few additions then, problem solved. Top 6 next year!!

What have Liverpool got to do with it? We've been told on here that if we scored first it would be a rout as we are far better man for man. Lots of predictions of high margin wins for Saints against this dreadful team with a crap manager and a pub player up front. I'm just wondering why it didn't pan out like that. It should have been easy.

No not an easy team to beat but play rubbish football. Would much rather watch us.

Negative football earnt a point, my god if we had to sit through that type of football week in week out! . I'd been embarrassed if I was a Wet Spam fan.

If we are man for man 'far superior' we have a better manager and are a better team then I'm sorry but something must have been a miss. We should have won this easily. How the f*ck did that joke of a player Andy Carroll score? He's no better than a pub player, we've been told.

His impression of a freshly-caught fish when faced with Carroll (of all people) that almost let him through on goal (easy for Boruc in the end) was also superb. You just need to be more mobile to play in the Premier League. I insist, the difference from the beginning is he is not getting found out as much, other than that he hasn't improved much. I can only see Pochettino's preference for playing one right/one left footed CBs as a reason to why he gets a start over Fonte.

As for the game, uneventful first half where we were honestly better (Lambert should've done better), and a second half where we went for it, but dropped the ball a bit and were duly punished. After that it all got a bit panicky and messy until Rodriguez came in and we were a minute away from getting a winner IMO. They came for a draw, got dirty but were effective.

As for Ramirez, did well with the goal, but not only he needs an English pre-season for his fitness' sake, he also needs to grow up a bit. Just has to be more humble and let go of set pieces if it's not working. The one he blasted into the Chapel was from a very good position to look for a touch in the box, to go for it came straight out of his hyped morale. I also think that we are singing his name far too often considering both what he's done, what he is in football so far and the time he's been here. After the goal we should've sang a Club chant rather than just chanting his name out at full voice for like 3 minutes. I stress that the last thing a South-American young starlet needs is an ego boost from 30k+ people. Otherwise things like the free-kicks happen.

There's been a lot of these comments around.

Personally I don't find it dissimilar to our time under Strachan. We were famed for working hard, having a willing runner in Ormerod put in bags of effort, played it long often to Beattie, and essentially getting in the faces of the other teams and making it difficult for them to play their game. Overall we had a team with a great work ethic who were better than the sum of their individual parts. West Ham aren't much different to that as far as I can see, albeit a bit more direct. How quickly we forget.

Expected a point, got a point, but disappointed that we did not push on when taking the lead at home.

Next week will be a tough place to go, maybe another point. We will just about do enough now.

As I said before the game, if we had won today, we would have got top half, I think now we will just kind of stutter to the end of the season, which I will take.

Next season top 6 ;)

I do not remember us being as blantantly direct as they were today back in the Stracham days. Any free kick they had they made it into a set piece.

Being honest, do yo really feel that was the consensus among the posters on here? My impression is that most of our posters thought it would be a difficult match, that could end with any result. West Ham are a difficult team to break down, and they will always fight hard to get points. It was a fair result today.

That's why I said they were more direct than we were. But we were very direct at times, no doubt about it. Strachan used to bang on about not being a long ball side but looking to get good aerial deliveries into the box as quick and often as possible.

Agreed. 40 points would have made me relaxed, but I won't until we are over the magic line or mathematically safe. Hope Frenchcastle beat Slumberland.

He played well, just felt he had enough time to get that header before the break on target. Would've been a big blow on them.

Posted
Thought Davis was amazing today. JRod looked really sharp and energetic when he came on despite not training most of the week.

Amazing? He was okay but didn't look like scoring or creating.

Posted

Really impressed with Steven Davis today. I don't remember his giving it away once today and produced passes into key areas, he has come on leaps and bounds under pochettino.

Having said that, the crowd were awful today, no chants for our team just the usual anti ref, anti Pompey crap. What happened to a good old 'oh when the saints'.

Posted

His header was close but he was clearly disappointed to miss the target. So despite Roger's uncomfortable adoration, Lambert could have done better with that one, even the big man himself would admit that I'm sure.

Just lol at this stat

@WHU_Stats: In 26 minutes, Pogatetz conceded 2 free kicks, picked up 1 YC, made 0 passes, 0 tackles, 0 headers and never touched the ball once. #SOUWHU

Whose told you this? Surely it was just a handful of people's opinions thinking Saints would win by a margin and getting a little carried away with the moment? No need to lump the whole forum into it.

Better ways to put across your point than being super sarcastic. Even though I was like yourself and thought that this game wouldn't be easy.

I thought Saints played well and nullified West Ham's hoof ball quite easily. On another day RL could have had 2. I thought the ball was over the line to be honest, but it was a very difficult decision to make. We did enough to win and I was very encouraged by the difference JayRod made when he came on - his direct running is a delight to watch. Davis MOM for me.

Davis MoM for me as well. And Carroll is no better than a pub bully. Should have been of for his elbow on Jos, who had him in his pocket all day.

I feel sorry for West Ham supporters watching that drivel every week, the sooner Allerdyce and Pullis are out of football the better for me. I am sure they are the only two who would want Carroll next season.
