After a spell of 10 league games in charge for Pochettino we have gathered 15 points. A very good return, and if we are honest it should be more as we battered Wigan 2nd half and also deserved a point at Utd. We have developed in a short time a playing style that can beat the best, and a steely determination and confidence instilled by Poche and his team.

For me, if we make the right additions we can push into the top 6 and maybe top 4 next season as I see little between us and teams like Everton, Liverpool and Arsenal. We also must be in with a shout of a domestic trophy because of the spirit in the camp allied to the on field ability.

We have golascorers, goal creators, midfield dynamos and full backs that would get into any of those teams, and if we improve our central defence and squad depth we can really push on under the leadership of the Sheriff.

I'm a believer....are you?

I believe.....

it´s good that Turkish only have 3 posts per day for this threads sake.... ;)

But I have been a very happy clapper since april 2012 and have not had any reason to change that yet from then.

With right additions to the squad, hoping that MP will extend his contract and stay with us, I can see that coming in the next 3-5 years.

For me the big difference in this 10 games is not the results. It´s how we approach games now and dont care too much who´s on the other side and when we are good we are really good. We just need to better our "low-level-performances" and get more consistent.

I believe, mostly as the enjoyment is back into football again. L1 and the champ were loads of fun, mostly because as a side we were surprisingly better (champ especially) but the first half of the prem was getting harder and harder to enjoy.

Other than the QPR home game I have really enjoyed our football again under Pochettino. So long as we keep playing like this we will go far.

I agree, I think we're in with a shout of winning the Europa League next season at least.

Probably need another season to win the Champions League ala Porto.

Not sure we can win the Europa League next season without being in it

Im sure the year after we would have a shout though, unless we are top 4.

Should also have had the three points Vs Everton. You had to be blind or a match official to miss seeing the young lad climbing all over Rickie at the back post and the blatant push/shoulder barge on Lallana in that game. Bothroyd shouldn't even have been on the pitch in the QPR game either after his challenge early in the match, so would have been at least a point from that one as well.

You obviously just don't believe as strongly as I do.

With Cortese and Pochettino in charge, ANYTHING is possible.

Ha - I just have a realistic belief as outlined in the OP rather than winning trophies we arent even entered into! Admire the belief though, it is pulsing through the veins of the club and city at the moment.

The Champions League is just a stepping stone to the Intergalactic Cup. We'll sh!t the lot of these Earth-based teams and become a superluminal footballing force.

The entire planet will be renamed Southampton FC in our honour.

I'm very positive about our future, but I think people may be getting ahead of themselves just a wee bit...

I think if we finish 11th-14th this season we've done very well, and should look to finish 8th-12th next season, then push for Europe after that.

I understand that there's a lot of ambition around the club now, but lets not get too far ahead of ourselves - there are bigger and better clubs than us who will have the same aspirations for Europe that we will in the next few years!

Why would be only "look to finish" up to 8th season after next?

We should be looking to finish top 4 next season IMO and I know that NC agrees with me!

Top 6 I would say, with 4th a bonus. A finish outside the top 6 and IMO, unless we sneak into the Europa League in 7th or 8th I reckon Poche would get fired.

A believer in what? Not sure what the question is. "if we make the right additions we can push into the top 6 and maybe top 4 next season" every club in the Prem could say that - all depends on what you consider out "right addition" requirements are?

We are getting a bit ahead of ourselves, Newcastle fans said the same last season :bun:

There is no such thing is there?! We are on an upward trajectory and and we will go as far as we will, we can't go any further than that, otherwise we will need to stop and wait for ourselves to catch up!!

A believer that top 6 is certainly achieveable next season with 2-3 good additions this summer.

I think that's mostly fair.

However, similar was said last season, with clubs spending more than us etc. etc, and look how that ended up.

I don't see us pushing for top 4 next season personally (probably not any time soon if I am totally honest).

I've lost sight of what my point was really, I guess, let's just not rule anything out, and enjoy the ride!

I think that our transfer dealings (both ins & outs) in the close season will tell us as fans what the ambitions of Cortese and co will be for 2013/14

My view is that Poch will have a decent sized war chest to have a real go at bringing us success in the form of a cup and a position in the league that

we could of only dreamed of 3/4 years ago.

One step at a time.

Let's make sure we don't get relegated first shall we. People looking up the table should be looking instead at how many points we are off 18th.

Then, we need to show a much more determined transfer strategy over the summer.

We have been very, very lucky in recent times.

Sorry, but you create your own luck, in what way have we been "lucky"?

I just find it utterly incredible that people can think about challenging for Top 4 next season whilst we're currently in a relegation battle.

We really have some of the most deluded, clueless and idiotic fans around.

A voice of reason at last.

What would 2-3 good additions look like? Examples of the sort of players?

Sorts of players in terms of names is irrelevant because the club will have their own targets. But if we brought in a centre back who is as good as Lambert, Ramirez, Schneiderlin, Cork etc that would be a great start. Astori has been mentioned and I havent seen much of him but he sounds from what I have read to be a very good player.

Attacking midfielder for me is a big one, someone who can play in any of the three positions behind the striker. Clearly we wanted Coutinho who has shown a lot of talent so far at Liverpool so if we are looking at players of that quality then I would be happy, and three players of that type of quality would clearly boost us quite a bit.

All about confidence though, a good start in the first 5 or so games next season and I would be very excited.

If you saw the football we played first half against Liverpool there was no 'luck' involved there at all - other teams have played bad football and survived by fortune. What that performance proved was that we have an exciting and talented young team that are growing in confidence and skill. These are exciting times and the only way is up.

How have we been lucky? What a load of rubbish.

Also, why don't you try looking at the table, we are closer in points to Swansea in 9th, than we are to Wigan in 18th. Even if they win their game in hand, against City, they will still be of an equal distance from us as we are to Swansea, with a far greater goal difference.

And really, this transfer policy nonsense again? We signed Clyne, Yoshi, Davis, Gaston & Jrod last summer. All are First team regulars, if not consistent first Xi'ers and all have improved the squad significantly.

well, we left some of our transfers very late and got lucky. We were also lucky that Luke Shaw for example, turned out so good and Boruc.

My christ, what a load of nonsense.

How is Luke Shaw luck?

We have a track record of producing and bringing talented youngsters through to the first team. The people working in the academy, who have probably seen a fair few players of significant quality before, were most likely aware that Shaw clearly was near enough ready for the first team.

That is judgement, not luck.

All those teams have better players than we do IMO. It's what we do (and what they do) in the summer that will determine whether we can challenge around the top 6. Swansea and West brom this year show that you don;t need a massive squad full of superstars to be there or there abouts. However those teams are still there ahead of them.

Will Wenger finally spend and plug the obvious gaps in his squad? If he does there is no way we will get close to them.

Will Moyes stay at Everton? If he doesn't combined with potential sales of Baines and Fellaini next year might be a struggle for Everton.

And Liverpool, well they have possibly the league's best player this year and still aren't in the running for the top 4 spots that's how hard this will be. If they loose Suarez maybe we can be a bit closer to them because they won;t be able to replace him.

Then there is who we buy (and who we keep) are we going to spend another £30-40 million this summer? Are we going to see 2-3 Ramirez equivalents? Are we going to keep Clyne, Shaw, Morgan etc.

Extend our 'Poch Form' over a season (1.5 points per game) and you get 57. Arsenal are 4th with 56 and 6 games to play, so about 64 -70 points will get you 4th so you are looking at us being twice as better than we have been over this season.

Why? One game doesn't change the belief.

Just wait. If we lose tomorrow, (and I dont expect us to btw,) this thread will be like a wristslitters magnet. We'll be as good as relegated, and all the talk about champions league and Pochettino being the new Guardiola will be forgotten in the fog of pessimism.

Why? One game doesn't change the belief. If we lose its because we won't have played very well, not because we are not a good side.

And that is fundamentally the difference between this premiership campaign and the many we had before we were finally relegated last time we were here. I can understand people being cynical as we were all hurt by those years.

we have been lucky with Shaw. No-one could know how he would react to playing regularly in the Premier League. We tried to buy another left back during pre-season.

The only fear I have is when we hit a purple patch under MP.

Mcdermott & O'Neill lost there jobs as they could not stop it while Pulis is struggling with his.

They, McDermott and Pulis especially, are IMO poor managers whilst everyone could see what was/is wrong with Sunderland.

Lucky suggests complete fortune when in reality he was promoted to the first team squad in the summer and he has always been earmarked to be someone to play for our first team sooner rather than later.

We did try to sign a left-back but the deal fell through - if we had extreme doubts over both Fox and Shaw I would imagine we'd go the extra mile.

It's been great how quickly Shaw has adapted and I think most have been surprised at how good he has been straight away, however I think lucky is the wrong word to use in this case. Otherwise you can also suggest we're lucky how well other players without Premier League experience have done - which would be most of the team.
