ART Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 25 years ago today a 17 year-old Alan Shearer scored a hat-trick on his Southampton debut making him the youngest ever scorer of a hat-trick in the top-flight. Today we have Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse showing the potential of future top players. What we need now is for the Academy to produce top strikers to give J-Rod and Ricky a run for their places.
fanimal Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 Can still see him now ramming home his 3rd after it came back off the bar and thought then he would be a legend. So determined to score!
niceandfriendly Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 What we need now is for the Academy to produce top strikers to give J-Rod and Ricky a run for their places. Hopefully Sam Gallagher will fill that role. Not strictly from our academy, I know, as we signed him from Plymouth.
Dimond Geezer Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 I remember Mark Blake scoring his debut goal in the same match.
Toomer Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 He did it from the bench Art, Nicky Banger scored a hat tick on his full debut.
mikee Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 I remember this game well. I remember Colin Clarke laying on at least 2 if not all 3 of them. I remember Alan rushing off to celebrate in his now famous style without thanking Colin. I remember thinking: 1. this guy is a natural finisher 2. what a selfish c**t appreciated him as a striker but never really liked him after that. Seems that first impressions do count!
RedWillie Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 And I was there stood on the Milton road terrace as he banged them in...
Tom & Gerry Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 And 50 years ago we beat N.Forest 5-0 at White Hart Lane - I saw both. Gees what are we going to see this week end? - I reckon JRod to do something memorable.
Stud mark of doom Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 And I was there stood on the Milton road terrace as he banged them in... Me too - didn't we also score a top quality own goal that day?
CB Fry Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 My first game at The Dell. Fact. A proud Junior Saint I was too.
Kenilworthy Posted 9 April, 2013 Posted 9 April, 2013 Great shame that it wasn't caught on film. It was only the next season they started to film every game. Nowadays even L2 goals are preserved for ever.

He had come on as a sub. TWICE before in away games.
david in sweden Posted 10 April, 2013 Posted 10 April, 2013 (edited) I remember Mark Blake scoring his debut goal in the same match. well yes Mark Blake did score in that game, but it wasn't his first goal I'm afraid. He'd scored in the away game v.Norwich (we lost 3-4 ) ...in the previous season (30th August 1986). Edited 10 April, 2013 by david in sweden
david in sweden Posted 10 April, 2013 Posted 10 April, 2013 He did it from the bench Art, Nicky Banger scored a hat tick on his full debut. yes I remember that too, League Cup game at home v. Rochdale

Gees what are we going to see this week end? - I reckon JRod to do something memorable. My evening was going so well until you wrote that it was 50 years ago! Thanks for making me feel old all of a sudden!
suewhistle Posted 10 April, 2013 Posted 10 April, 2013 I remember Colin Clarke laying on at least 2 if not all 3 of them. Yep, I remember that too, from the under-West stand terrace. Yep, never actually liked him, all the personality of a sloth.
AussieDog Posted 10 April, 2013 Posted 10 April, 2013 He did it from the bench Art, Nicky Banger scored a hat tick on his full debut. Not in my recollection he didn't. I seem to recall him being substituted to a standing ovation near the end as he had simply run himself into the ground. I also thought it was hist first start rather than first appearance. I was sat in the East stand with my stepdad (a Chelsea supporter, but I won't hold that against him) who said something about Jimmy Greaves being the previous youngest, but I've got no facts to back that up.
Dimond Geezer Posted 11 April, 2013 Posted 11 April, 2013 well yes Mark Blake did score in that game, but it wasn't his first goal I'm afraid.
