ladysaint Posted 7 April, 2013 Posted 7 April, 2013 No doubt this has already been discussed in a thread elsewhere but thought it great yesterday second half when we had on the pitch 6 players who IMO could all play for England.
Andre Posted 7 April, 2013 Posted 7 April, 2013 I think it's brilliant we have such great English talent in the side. A good half of our regular starting lineup is English, and we have more in the wings. Rodriguez should come straight into the England team ahead of Welbeck, and Lambert should be given a start or two just to see what he's like; Clyne and Shaw will obviously be huge in the future for the country; and Cork and Lallana should definitely get run-outs in a friendly or something as well. We shouldn't get carried away, but we certainly have some great English talent at our club.
Danish Saint Posted 7 April, 2013 Posted 7 April, 2013 Saints are playing a different game than England, so unless they change to more focus on a passing game, none of the players at Saints look likely to even get a sniff.

Saint Without a Halo Posted 7 April, 2013 Posted 7 April, 2013 Agreed. England still think its all about huff and puff. Maybe England need a change of manager to take them to the next stage of World football!
supersonic Posted 7 April, 2013 Posted 7 April, 2013 Maybe England need a change of manager to take them to the next stage of World football! This. If you appoint a dull manager, expect dull football. This is the weakest England team I've known for a very long time

Good thing having lots of talented English players, it means we don't get too disrupted during international breaks.
melmacian_saint Posted 7 April, 2013 Posted 7 April, 2013 You see, despite the goal, I'm very unsure about the "Lallana for England" shouts. In fact I could see Rodriguez getting in a squad ahead of him and so could Cork.

Badger Posted 7 April, 2013 Posted 7 April, 2013 Apart from that Lallana was picked in a squad already this season? But the press have now 'discovered' Rodriguez, and he has been linked with Liverpool.

Totally agree. I remain of the view that the backbone of the squad should remain English/British to maintain the 'team spirit' etc with exceptional talent brought in from EU & elsewhere, rather than a collection of mercenaries. (no doubt this will spark the usual outcry). I do however expect to this to change though, with several Spanish, South American players joining in the summer.
