The Mark Lawrenson Appreciation Thread

I find Lineker quite a good anchor - then again, I would say that.

Unfortunately, Hansen and Lawrenson are well past their sell-by date and don't really offer anything of any value punditry wise but in their defence, they don't get the time to research (ha, not sure if they would anyway!) or airtime Neville gets to get his point across (GN's been brilliant since he started tbf).

I think they should make it a bit more... streetwise, a bit more of a laugh. It's a bit dour and has been for a while. If they have some personalities on there it might liven it up a bit. For example, Bagpuss is always very watchable with his footballing anecdotes, though I'm not sure you'd learn much from him. Same goes for Ian Wright (but once again, don't think you'll learn much with him, either).

A nice blend of intelligent debate and humour would be good... any suggestions?

This week's prediction:

I have tipped Southampton to lose a few of their games recently, not because I have anything against them but because I thought they would struggle under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

They haven't. They have done a lot better than I expected and, by beating teams like Manchester City and Liverpool, they have surprised me a lot, and probably quite a few other people too. It is those wins that have seen them climb the table and away from relegation danger.

I'm tipping them to beat West Ham, not to silence the Saints fans who have given me stick on Twitter but because I think they are playing well enough to break down a Hammers team that will probably see a point as a decent return as they edge towards safety.

Lawro's prediction: 2-1

More gold from poor ol' Lawro: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22199585

"I think Nigel Adkins could have done equally as well as the Argentine had he not have been sacked.

They have got home wins against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool and scared the hell out of Manchester United. But I'm just a little bit worried, in terms of looking to the future, why they've struggled to beat the lower teams."

How about some of the SSN lovely ladies? I would love to hear what Millie and Hayley have to say about the games. Maybe make them bend over to pick stuff up every now and again (displaying growlers). Perfect.

Definitely a concern. Must be even more of a concern for Liverpool who dont beat the top teams and failed to beat Reading.

He really is an absolute cretin isn't he. Football expert my arse, he is so out of touch everyone knows we are going to destroy Swansea tomorrow.

It is his comments people are referring to and he doesnt have much of a clue as is apparent to most on here and not cos he isnt predicting 4-0 wins for us each week. I am understanding other people's apparent issues with you as you appear to like to be contrary and need the attention.

Odd. Our Results against the "lower" teams:

QPR: Won 1 Lost 1

Reading: Done the double

Wigan: Lost 1 Drawn 1

Villa: Done the double

Stoke: Drawn

We've only lost 2 games in 9 against the lower teams...and won 5.

Don't let facts get in the way of vague impressions and knee-jerk bias.

I'm happy to see him predict a loss - that means we get at least a point!

Read his last comment on the Villa prediction. "If Villa keep all their players they would come straight back up". **** me, and he gets paid for this insight.

Not even sure I agree with him, most of those kids could fold in the Championship trying to play the way they do (badly attempting to play passing football) and even if Benteke stayed he could easily get injured and they could struggle to break the top 2 without him. All hypothetical of course, no way Benteke would stay and they're not down yet.

Ah ar5es, I make one prediction all season and he agrees with me. Well, as I've remembered Mulumbu is still suspended I'm going for 3-1 now instead.

See what I mean ? He completely ballsed up any chance I had of being right by agreeing with me.

The man is a ****. Completely out of touch with the modern game. The BBC need a radical rethink with their pundits.

Maybe you should do it, with your "Saints are going to lose every game and go down" cutting edge thinking.

You're just so radical and in touch with the modern game, you are.
