The Mark Lawrenson Appreciation Thread

Although many may hate him as he is constantly predicting us to lose, I think otherwise. He is cleverly giving opponents false confidence by talking them up and us down so it's easier for us to beat them. When you look at him like this, he is vital in our survival in the PL.

Prediction Saints v West Ham

Saints are **** so I'm going for a record 9-0 win to West Ham.

The guy is a clown, needs to take a reality check and most importantly stop this vendetta against Saints. What is it now - last 15 games he's gone for Saints to get beat?

WATCH IT. How dare you lot mock the holy one.

Expect Turkish or CB Tourettes to come on to this thread at any minute and defend him. "Bellends " or "tw ats" is the least you can expect to be called.

... and we may currently be eleventh but don't let anyone think we can finish tenth or better. If we did what insult would the "gruesomme twosome" be able to use on anyone who disagreed with their interpretation of the world?

I've actually found lawrenson's predictions genuinely amusing, especially since the Ramirez "he wont go there" jibe. Really look forward to him making an even bigger tw*t of himself week in, week out, its great to watch. Wonder what he'll say on MOTD in a few minutes

On Radio 5 earlier he was blowing sunshine up our backsides: just hope he predicts a 2-3 win for Wet Spam next week.

Lineker: My Twitter followers tell me 'Lawro' that you haven't predicted Southampton to win since about August.....

Lawrensen: They're telling you untruths.

What a rectum.

Sidestepped as usual. I await his whu prediction with bated breath, sooner or later he's going to have to call a win for us.

Doesn't Lawrenson have a Twitter account then? I don't know about these things, but on the face of it, if he did, we ought to be ramming it down his throat on his account, surely?

So far over the course of the season he has one team position right - Man Utd. Top, top punditry, I would never have called that in month of Sunday's.

Can the mods introduce a junior section so the prepubescents who actually care what any pundit says can post their dummy spitting drivel and keep it away from the main forum? It's quite boring seeing a lawrenson thread at least once a week with the same old predictable pony posted up.

Be interesting to see how his table looked after 15 or 20 games, before united's unassailable lead opened up...

In fairness to the tw*t, hes identified the top 6 correctly. He just hasnt got a clue about the rest of the table.

What this tells me is that he is very aware of the football being played at the big clubs, but is totally clueless about the football being played at the rest of the clubs.

Conclusion : A lazy pundit, heavily reliant on club reputation rather than realaities. The punditing equivalent of Roy Hodgson. The sort of people runining football and have always been ruining football.

Or maybe it's easier predicting for the bigger clubs as they tend to win all the time. Below the top 8, it's a bit more of a lottery and anything could happen and does.

Exactly hence the 'big four' and so forth. And one reason why talk about champions league or even top six is a tad premature.

You're forgetting that he isnt just getting games like Saints vs Reading wrong. He's getting games like Saints vs Liverpool and Saints vs Chelsea wrong. He goes with reputation, and maybe occasionaly table position. Lazy tw*t of a pundit.

We've missed you on the last few match reaction threads Alps... :)

I not known what to say. We've carried on winning, we carried on across an international break, everything is as I would wish it to be. There is a limited number of way to express ones satisfaction/delight.

I just hope we do pre-season and the transfer window the right way - for once...

In fairness to him on those games (particularly Chelsea), I don't think anyone could have expected us to win.

I think we can do it, but there does seem to be a big gap in quality between the top 6 or so teams and everyone else. Still, we have good youth coming through and if we keep spending £30m or so each summer, who knows...

I take it all as a compliment - he is just so old school that he cant see how 4231 attacking pressing sides can do well in a league where too many teams are more frightened of losing and thus play defensive mixed boring stuff... so sides like us and Swansea are seen as beatable, even if we play nice football... hes just old school and become a lucky charm. he predicts we lose and more often we win... keep in going Lawro!

Alp, don't be a stranger. I like it when you're balanced, and you should show the few that delight in goading you that you can give praise when it's due.

I am chuffed to bits with how its going. Who would have thought it at Xmas. I dont care if this is due to MP or NA, its just great its happening.

With a bit of juidicious transfer activity and pre-season training, we can be a real force looking for a top 6 finish next season.

Lawrenson is an extremely nice guy. He might be getting his predictions horribly wrong for us but that doesn't make him a ****. He's a great father, a loving husband and a superb wrestler/jiu jit su specialist. Don't let him get you in a rear naked choke, you won't be getting out of that!

He hasn't even done that though, he's got Liverpool in the top 6 and Spurs out of it. Anyone with the slightest interest in football could have predicted the top6 as it stands right now, and he hasn't.

The whole MOTD setup is unimaginative, old and tired now.

They were OK in their day but Hansen, Lawrenson and Lineker should now be put out to grass.

Probably earning a packet too.

It really is time for some new blood in there.

Couldn't agree more. Although the sky changes happened largely because of Keyes and Grays cock up, it has totally revitalized the program with Ed and Gary.

Time for the BBC to review their tired old format, and offload some of the deadwood.

Lineker is ok as the anchor, but it's ridiculous that they're still using pundits that never played in the Premier League era.

Football has moved on, Gary Neville is the best evidence that it's worth bringing someone new in.

If you want proper football analysis and discussion then there are publications and podcasts / radio shows that will do it. BBC know they need to counter to a football supporting audience that is by and large made up of morons and so tailor their content accordingly with lots of nothing discussion and obvious statements by profiled individuals. I can hack that because their editing of the matches in highlights is very good and I shudder to think ITV ever get anywhere near the Premier League highlights again.
