If Wigan win later, back to square 1.

With one game less to play. Although it would be nice if everyone below us could lose we can't help what happens else where

I meant in terms of points from 18th! The more the better really, and 4 is a bit too close for comfort.

But remember it is not just the points gap but ALL the teams that have to pass us to put us in 18th. The chances are miniscule, relax man!

I see where you're coming from but it's not that bad. We won so we will be better off whatever happens. Worst case scenario we will have...

- Dropped Reading and QPR completely out of contention, however unlikely they were to catch us before.

- Dropped Stoke 3 points behind.

- Gained 2 points on Swansea

- Dropped Norwich another 2 points behind

- Gained 3 points on Fulham OR dropped Newcastle another 3 behind OR gained 2 points on both of them

- Gained 2 points and jumped above West Ham

- We've improved our GD relative to Arsenal ;)

I'll be honest, I wont be putting too much money on Sunderland holding on to their lead either. I reckon draw.

It also mean time is running out for the scenario to change. The teams below us now only have 6 games to pull it back.

That's very true. We'd have to do worse than 7 other teams. Still, it's possible, if unlikely given current form.

I accept I may have been being a little bit pessimistic!

Funny, in the past I have ALWAYS worried until mathematical certainty. Not this time..........I'm actually starting to wonder if I miss the relegation battles to the last day like we used to have.

Losing to Wigan early in the season is STILL p1ssing me off. :(

Wigan were first class in the second half and deserved their victory. With Kone they are a different side. The Swansea and Norwich home games are the ones that bug me most. We murdered Swansea and threw it away. Norwich, we obviously conceded a woeful goal. They would never have scored otherwise and we would have won.

The Wigan draw away was worse - we were poor in the home fixture and they were good value in the second half.

I was referring mainly to the points loss. They played well in the 2nd half for sure, but we still had the players and ability to do better......Ah well, sewage under the fatpipes and all that..

Wigan have trips to Man City, West Ham, WBA and Arsenal. Being fairly realistic I'd say 2 points from that, possibly a win at one of the 'West' clubs.

They also have Swansea Spuds and Villa at home. I'd have a guess at 5 points from that.

I'll go out on a limb and say we have to lose all our remaining games to go down if QPR won today. Still want a draw really.

I think we underestimated them as a set of fans. They had won a shed load of games at the end of the previous season and teas do carry form across with them to the new season. It was a tough game and we had no right to think we would waltz it.

The same could be said any Prem game. All teams have quality players that can hurt you on their day.

Come on Chelsea/QPR...

Very true, and I think we are still underestimating them. This is their part of the season to come good, which is why I think they will survive.

No they weren't, they were truly awful but managed to score twice (the second one didn't matter but was awful by Fonte). I still think Wigan that day were a disgrace to the PL, and we lost to them.

I'm hopeless with maths - when is the soonest QPR or Reading can be relegated?

If Wigan win they will be 10 points off safety with 18 to play for. So in 2 games time I think.

Well thats QPR's leading goalscorer missing for 3 games, time to resign Harry, or its another relegation on your CV.

What do you mean another relegation? There's been nothing in the papers about that...

Chelsea are playing a crap team at home and still don't look as good as Saints in the last few games. I'm not worried about relegation for NEXT season at the moment.

Not quite. They will still only be 8 points behind Sunderland (barring a miraculous injury-time comeback in their game at Chelsea.)

Being above Sunderland would only put you 18th. Safety would be Villa on 33.
