I love it how plays such as Remy, Hooper and Altidore have all of a sudden become world beaters, when I know for well that if we'd signed them - they wouldn't have been good enough. Same people would have been moaning.

Do you know all about him then? Seen all his goals? Watched him for 90 minutes?

 

Have you compared all 3 with him?

 

If not, it's an utterly stupid thing to say as it's an argument based on zilch.

 

People also seem to be forgetting the simple fact that Sunderland didn't have any strikers (Fletcher still injured). Norwich sold Martin, Holt, Jackson. They needed strikers.

 

We could do with a striker, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a game stopper, because we already have players such as Jay and Rickie who would walk into most of the teams around us in the table. Some people may not take that, but I think both of those guys are better than the players the other clubs have signed.

Ok, so if people are using the argument that scoring goals in the dutch league means nothing, and that you're rubbish, why are people creaming themselves over Bony? Swansea paid £14m for a player who scored goals in the dutch league.

Bony is a good buy and would have been a good Lambert replacement & complement.

 

Of the others I don't think Remy offers anything that we don't already have in the squad and the same more or less goes for Hooper. Altidore is a more complete player then when he played for Wolves but no better then we have in my opinion. Van Wolfswinkel is a great prospect but has stagnated in his development a bit last year. He's a great goalscorer but I have my doubts about his ability to handle the physicallity of the PL.

 

When it comes to Finnbogason I think he's somewhere inbetween Bony and Altidore in potential and he is available without paying over the top (Heerenveen made a loss of 4 million euros lsat year, a lot for a Dutch club). In my opinion signing Finnbogason would be a step sideways but it helps us secure a rather vulnarable position in our team. It is not a panic buy, mainly because its way to early to panic.

Personally I'd worry if we were signing a whole new 11 in a season. Targeted replacement, sensible improvement is the name of the game. Sunderland and Norwich have signed a lot of players (they had to) but there's and unknown factor too; can they play together? Will they adjust to the league.

 

My fear of big money signings and big reputations is it can backfire. For every RVP there's a Torres. I wouldn't mind betting that half the players mentioned make little impact and a non-name outshines them.

 

My money is still on Osvaldo, but I think it'll go to the wire.

There is a difference in defending their view by posting up valid arguements towards them, involving themselves in reasonable debate and seeing both sides to an arguement.
