Summer 2013 HCDAJFU / Transfer thread

Quite like the look of him, although since De Ridder I'm struggling to take much from youtube these days!

As said above, looks like the master of the tap in though. Very sharp, good touch.

To be honest, these ''unknown'' players often turn out to produce more than the big names. Don't know why it works like that, less pressure and expectation on them maybe?

I think it's clear we want a striker and it's been clear since last month. Openly trying for Damaio, Osvaldo etc. I would still be very surprised if we don't have a new forward come the end of the window, and I have a feeling we still have a fair bit of $$$ to use on one (taking into account the alleged money were putting forward for Osvaldo and Damaio, after the other transfers had been done)

I think we've just got to be patient. It's not like we're going into the season as this mega-under-strength team, we're starting it stronger than we started it last year, so that's only going to be a positive.

Saints want Icelandic striker Alfred Finnbogason according to this...

This is what i was worried about! Target unrealistic players, take months to realise they are unrealistic, then panic buy because we didnt have a contingency plan.

I assume you're calling this a panic buy because it's someone you've never heard of?

Actually quite the opposite. I watch a fair bit of the dutch league and seen him play a few times.

He looks ok in the dutch league but the standard is so poor.

Bony was the only striker in the dutch league i wanted.......

I would be very happy with Scott Sinclair and this Fingerbotty guy...probably get the both of them for about £11million and solve 2 areas in need of strengthening

Scott Sinclair is a cracking player who could be invigorated at Saints...his baby bro is here and i think would be a lovely fit

I can see Saints nipping in at the last minute for this guy.

3 Million should do it.

Good player and a million times better then de Ridder when he was in the Dutch league. However, Finnbogasons strenghts are as a goal-poacher in the penalty area and not so much in the build-up play. Dutch defenders in general are awful so scoring a lot of goals is not that difficult compared to other leagues. On the positive side he's made the transition from the Swedish league to Heerenveen without any problems.

My verdict: As good as van Wolfswinkel right now bit not as good as Bony. Low-risk in terms of outlay but you don't know if you end up with Yoshida or Mayuka (in terms of fullfilling potential).

Aren't the mods supposed to do something about this level of persistent trolling? Makes discussion impossible on every thread.

For goodness sake how can you call this trolling. It is great that people have different opinions and the resulting banter is what a forum is all about.

The striker situation is an interesting one. It's not just us struggling, fans of so many other clubs desperate for one seem to struggle, and it's not just this season. It's hard to come up with long lists you'd even want. A lot of the top strikers are moving this summer, but far bigger clubs than us are struggling to get their man.

Why are there so many fewer strikers now? Is it the tendency to play 1 up front, meaning there's potentially half the first team strikers out there? Goals are spread around more, fewer old fashioned wingers, more possession, fewer crosses, so not the number of 25+ goal centre forwards. Big clubs like Chelsea end up settling for someone like Ba, who is quite good but not the level you'd expect for them really. Spurs took ages and eventually have got Soldado, but there seem's a real shortage of targets now. Mourinho said it's Rooney or no-one.

I'm sure there's plenty of great strikers I just don't know about, but I haven't seen any other names linked with us or other Premier League clubs to be honest. Who else is out there?!

Strikers are a problem at all levels, even L2. In terms of the ones that have been linked to Saints at some stage, Sow, Vydra and this Finbogason sound the best realistic ones although the Dutch league is a risk as we found with De Ridder! I'd like Vydra - has successful NPC experience, young still, has pace and could be available for £8-9m, which if he had a couple of good 12-15 goal seasons would rise in value. Scott Sinclair would have been a fine winger/striker option and it's a pity WBA have beaten us to that one. What about the other guy at Fenerbache - Stoch? Has anyone bought him yet?

I'd like to see Mayuka get a proper run of games off the bench, he did well in the Beskitas game, but the mood music seems to suggest he'll be loaned out/sold.

Technique mate. #Tekkers

Un-be-lievable tekkers.

On a side note, liking the look of this Finnbogason. I'm a fan of anyone who can perfect the 'dinked' finish and he has a really good goals-to-game ratio for his age. Being Icelandic he'd speak perfect English, so sure he'd settle in well.

As said above, would be a decent investment around the £5million mark and a lot less risk than someone like Damiao.

Can't believe that any Saints 'Insider' would have given those quotes to Sports Direct!

Not saying we might not have an interest, Im sure we have looked at loads of strikers, and he has a good goal record.

I thought that. That source has no credibility at all based on those "comments"

would be a gamble - remember how good De Ridder looked. I watch a bit of the dutch league and the standard is very poor.

+ Altidore joined Sunderland and nobody seemed impressed

Yeah, de Ridder never looked that good....

Altidore has become a more complete player in the Netherlands, I wouldn't be surprised if he does well in the PL.

Its ridiculous to compare de Ridder with player that has Finnbogasons record, there's a reason de Ridder came to the Championship instead of directly to the PL.
