Saint-Armstrong Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Goals from Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana take Saints onto 37 points and up to 11th place, as it stands. Thoughts?
SaintsAhoy Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Great result. Think we are a win away from safety now
edprice1984 Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Get in Saints, wonderful performance and brilliant win!
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Get in. As close to safety as Borucs juggling was to a goal. Hopefully one of my jumping lasagnes can complete the day for me.
Nexstar Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Just brilliant again. The possession football, link-up play, stamina and desire were outstanding. Only minor negative was the dodgy clearing from set-pieces, but we still maintained a clean sheet. Staying up and the future is bright!
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Get in!!! Sorry Nig. But a win over a 2nd rate team and fans, with a 1st rate manager.
Edmonton Saint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 As one of the brave few who suggested Adkins wasn't up to managing in the premier league and was delighted by his sacking, I would like to think that this win has vindicated my viewpoint. We are on fire and starting to play with the belief and consistency that Adkins was incapable of getting out of the players.
Rasiak-9- Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 We weren't even particularly great to be honest, but that was a doddle. Miracle Reading have as many points as they do IMO.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Lucky match thread number 9 for the season :)
Rich102 Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Goal difference would suggest we've found about the right position in the league. A great achievement.
Colinjb Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 I think we might be staying up you know. Despite some nervy moments, that was a walk in the park...... Reading fans, 12 months is a long time, isn't it?
JoeShmoe Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Superb, JRod and Rickie were excellent. thought Maya (again) and Shaw were very good as well jos had a Bambi on Ice first half but got away with it, Ramirez again very frustrating Staying up, all you can say Keep this team together next season and one or two of real quality and we ought to be a fine side next year
Edmonton Saint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 And Steve Davis my m.o.m, he was everywhere today.
Saints Fan Dan Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 My God that was satisfying. Can't see us going down, feel for Adkins but this justifies his sacking. You can stick your Championship title up your arse!
red&white56 Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Great win. Reading were poor for saying they had to win this one....... we are safe!!!
sussexsaint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 What a difference there is in Jay, superb performance again. Afraid I love Boruc all the more now , some key saves and is such a character, love the juggling. Showed respect to Nige, drew a thin blue line under it and showed we have moved on, amazing support today. We are Southampton, we are premier league
pap Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Apart from the first half hour, a good dominating performance. Don't think the Reading team that NA put out was capable of a shock though. Seems to be a reason Le Fondre was preferred as a bench option by McDermott. I agree with trousers; we probably are safe now. It'd take a massive collapse in form or a huge injury crisis for us not to be safe, not to mention some impressive form from other teams. I won't be opening the champers until it's mathematical though.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Another good win. Onwards and upwards!
Stepgar Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Happy days, the sun is shinning all makes good for the rest of the weekend.
niceandfriendly Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Safety was all but confirmed after beating Chelsea, but now it's certain IMO. Excellent performance, even though I missed a lot of the second half. It seemed we were in complete control. Rodriguez is on fire. His, Lamberts and Gaston's link up play was brilliant at times. Yaaaaaaaay
MOSaint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Good win, decent performance against a bad side. Reading tried to play us at our own game but when it came down to it we had more quality. Adkins is going to have to renovate their squad if they want to get promoted next season. Rodriguez MOtM
The Kraken Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Solid 2-0 win. We didn't really get out of third gear but then we never really needed to. Still a bit sloppy at times in defence but Reading were too incapable to make anything from it.
VectisSaint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Another one of my predictions wrong !!!! Are you Lawro in disguise?
Under Weststand Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 That was a very comfortable victory. As good as safe now in all probability, great performances from SRL & Rodriguez. JRod MOTM for me.
stknowle Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Feck's sake we are starting to look like such a good premiership side. Slick passing, taking the absolute p!ss. Just need a bit more ruthlessness needed, which will come next season. AVE IT!!!!!!
DT Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Well done saints. Some great football after early dross. Got the breaks though. Please sign Boruc. He's made a massive difference. And crucial saves at right times.
Sheaf Saint Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 First half was a bit nervy but we were so dominant in the second half. We look anything but a relegation-threatened side at the moment. J-Rod my MOTM, closely followed by Davis who had a very good game but wasted a glorious chance to put us 2-0 up early in the second half. Great to see AL come on and get a goal, it was an obvious sub because Gaston was so poor today. We look like such a better team when he isn't playing. One more win will see us mathematically safe I reckon. Can't see Villa getting a win away at Stoke today so hopefully the 7-point gap will be maintained. There are far worse teams below us now so only a spectacular collapse in form over the last 6 games will see us down.
Saint_clark Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Rodriguez thanks Adkins in his interview Said it a bit too quickly, sounded like a standard response to me.
Minsk Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Rode our luck a bit in the first 20 mins. Jos was lucky with the penalty decision, it would have been a different game had it been given. Took control more and more as the game went on. Should have scored at least 4 or 5, not just the 2 we put away. We really do need to sign Boruc up long term. The more I see of him the more I like him. Great game today. Loved his juggling. Steve Davis also had a very good game today, but my MoM goes to J-Rod. He just gets better and better.
Dalek2003 Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Are you Lawro in disguise? I think that is 10 in a row that I have got wrong, still proves to be good for the club.
Viking Warrior Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 Did alpine post today . Ps any saints fans in Aberdeen this afternoon
Bearsy Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 looked a lot like a premier league team against a championship team, which to be fair it was yo!
Viking Warrior Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 You will get one right one day Dalek . Keep posting your predictions it opens up the debate
Bananaman Posted 6 April, 2013 Posted 6 April, 2013 would have taken 17th at the start of the season so I'm loving it
