solentstars Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 What amuses me are the threads, now closed, denoucing fans who might want to go to the FA cup game but not the league games.. Utterly, utterly priceless... So let me get this straight. Stayaway fans are apparently killing this club with their non attendance but at the very first attempt these fans of hogh principle decide people aren't going to get tickets and deny the club much needed revenue. You can't have it both ways, you can't say stay away fans are crippling the club by not putting money in the club and then tell them to eff off the moment they want to buy a ticket. You're right when you say fans can't cherry pick their games and any one who doesn't fancy Doncaster or Barnsley shouldn't suddenly find the money to see man Utd but by the same turn you can't then use the "vital income lost" argument when you turn people away. Either their money is good or it's not, they're guilty of being lightweight, part time fans but you can't cherry pick who you want at St Marys any more than you can cherry pick what games you go to....good post me personally would take their money, the only ones who get up my nose, our the ones who want their own team to lose. Daren W Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 good post me personally would take their money, the only ones who get up my nose, our the ones who want their own team to lose. Good point. Any fan who wants the club to fail is completely and utterly wrong. Like many others I liked Nigel Pearson a great deal, met him a few times and found him honest, forthright and man of great integrity. But... I get the same impression from Jan and even if Lowe and Wilde are proved right as a result, I'd be as happy as larry to see this experiment work. The problem we have at this club is that we have a minority of "fans," on both sides of the argument, for whom being right is more important than the club which in my humble opinion is horse shiite.. brmbrm Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 Disgusting. Stay-away plastic fans will want to go to this and should not be allowed to. We need some sort of decent standards here. I reckon cap the attendance at 15,000 to make sure the plastic fans can't get tickets. Keep the blood pure.

dubai_phil Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 Ouch a tough call, was thinking of coming back for Christmas but had to be back before New Year for work, so do I throw a 2 day sicky? Then that means I don't qualify for next years' frequent flyer card and freebie upgrades ouch.... But two positives - 1) We cannot be as bad as the last time we played Man U in the cup on telly at SMS when their pace and speed of thought ripped us apart and made me seriously embarrassed in a bar in Damascus 2) We actually play a style of football better suited to PL type opposition so if we actually come out the blocks firing we could actually enjoy the day. Damn, decisions decisions....

Ditto. All this stayng away bollocx is absolute rubbish. The plain, hard facts are that we have a hardcore of somewhere between 13,000 to 15,000 fans who will turn up whatever is served up. Of course I would like it to be 20,000 , 25,000 or 30,000 but that's just not going to happen. We have bottomed out, we have our core support. We can whinge. moan and ponitificate on here as much as we like, but that will not make them come back. To get above that 13k to 15k, it is up to the Club to either start winning at home or for Trevor Brooking to pull out Man Yoo at home. So when that happens, rather than moan about the plastics coming back, can we not just take some satisfaction that money will be coming in, which in the long term might just enhance your own experience???? Much as I hate to agree with Alpine, he doesn't need a reason not to attend, he lives in Austria FFS. People who stay away "because of Lowe" who live in St Mary's Road, fine, but people who have families and a fair way to travel don't deserve abuse in my opinion. I'm not a STH or member and I normally only go to a few games a season (it was like that in the Premiership, it's still like that now), but I haven't been to a home game yet this season. Although I have been to a few away games (Cardiff, Swansea and Reading....and even Weymouth pre-season-beat that you super duper fans!). This is nothing to do with Lowe or anything, it's just that its difficult to get there usually. I was going to go to the Forest game because I'm a cheap skate, but now not sure which of the 2 games to go to. team-saint Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 I don't think all the fans having a go were saying that they don't want people to come to the games, just that those who have been coming to the home games this season to see us lose mostly should not have their seats taken by people coming just to watch Man U if there is a very large demand for tickets. Most of these people will be season ticket holders which won't mean a problem, but I'm not a season ticket holder and have been to every home game this season minus 3 (2 of which are our only wins!) because of being on holiday or not having any way of getting to the game. I will be delighted to see 30,000 at the game, don't be put off coming by all the morons who think they are superior, but it's worth saying that not everyone who has posted has been trying to say people shouldn't come, just that fans who have been to more games should get priority which is fair. If the performance is fairly positive and plenty of families enjoy the match then it will probably mean attendances rise slightly because of the fans who remember why they used to enjoy matchdays, so it should be a good thing to get fans back. It's bound to be on telly, a lot of people will be skint due to Christmas, and more crucially, a significant proportion of the fanbase have completely stopped going for reasons which have been discussed in length for much of the last four months, and a lot of them will not return. dubai_phil Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 We have a hard core of fans. We have a hard core of stay away fans who have their principles and beliefs (FAIR PLAY to them I say) We have a lot of fans for whom the travel or finances is now a problem We have a lot of fans who simply lost the hunger or desire or motivation Then we have that other lot who I don't include in the next paragraph... Apart from "the other lot", I have no problem with any of them wanting to go to see a big game like this, my son is one, who has only just started his work career in Oxford and as an unemployed ex student simply did not have the money to get from Amesbury to SMS for games and pay for the tickets, but already he is trying to borrow enough money to get down to SMS for the day. What I do have an issue with are those who try by their words, rants or rhetoric to demand that others stay away simply to coincide with their views, and also with those who hoped we would lose games to bring about change. At the end of the day this will be a great weekend for the club and whatever happens on the pitch a great moment in the lives and the development of our youngsters. I have no issue with letting anyone who has beliefs and wishes to attend and can live with themselves calling it a big team or a quality game. Who knows they may change their views and find ways to attend more games. I only have an issue with a few posters on here who try and ram their opinions and beliefs down our throats day in and day out. For those actually quite few, I'd love to spot them sneaking in so we could call them two faced, in some ways I'd love them to be banned, (they are DIFFERENT from those staying away on principle) Personally I just feel sad that they'll miss a great day out, an electric atmosphere with so many ManUre fans in the ground. We may get wallopped we may be an upset - that's why we will all want to go! But honestly let the demanders that we follow their views sit at home and moan at their telly's and live their "happy" lives typing on internet forums. In Southampton and the catchment areas there are more than enough so called "plastic fans" who would like to be at SMS for this game, far more than the politico's on here. This is a big day for us and I think we need a lift and a buzz and something to look forward to. At last thanks to the old fogeys and their balls, we've got one. How far we've fallen when this gives us such a buzz, but at LEAST we got a biuzz into Christmas! but this is why we love our football!
Pat from Poole Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 SO how many people who refuse to go to games beacsue of Lowe will definately be attendance to this game I ask myself ...... most of them. Ih the Irony of getting a big draw to so see them crawl out of the woowork. I think you might be surprised. There will be a bigger crowd than usual, but you'll find United fans all over the ground, whereas in years gone by they weren't so evident in Saints areas. StuRomseySaint Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 Right, let's put this whole Jamie Turner thing into perspective... He was not a quiet family man, he was a bloke who had been on Man Utd board days before inciting violence and pitch invasions. He was walking through a notorious estate, past a notorious club drawing attention to him and his group, only minutes before kick-off. His minibus load of mates who were all there with him..... not one could give a statement and say what happened.... why is that? Face it, Jamie Turner came looking for trouble, found it and came worse off. No sympathy for him. No doubt the club will take a different view and make him guest of honour or something stupid like that.

15saints Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 So, all those who have been lecturing about "Get behind the team FFS" and "Keep the faith" and "I dont give a shiitt in the boardroom, I am a fan of the club" are now coming out with snide comments because our FA Cup 3rd Round draw is likely to draw a full house. So not only do they lecture others about their lack of attendance, they now feel they have some right to veto which matches people come back for. And despite them counselling about the financial survival of the club, some of them would rather the fair-weather fans didnt turn up so they can continue to wallow in their self-perceived and paid-for positions of moral superiority. You couldnt make it up. Shiit club, shiit fans.... Think this post sums you up - when there is nothing left to say you have to go and say it. Why if you have such a low opinion of the club and it's fans do you feel the need to come on our forum? and to say you couldn't make it up is totally wrong as you seem to be able to all of the time. EFM Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 Means we will get all the f*cking glory hunters and arm chair fans back. God help us. I asked myself before I eagerly looked at this thread just how many posts before one of the super fans who complains about low attendances would be furious that the damn pesky others might turn up - you know Saints foreva, those lifelong bastards who don't turn up every week now but really don't fill you with anger rather than egotistical masturbational fantasies that you are one of the "great supporters". I hadn't anticpicated it would be under 10 posts but you managed it! Well done. 1) Am I right that you would be far far happier that we still only got 15,000 for the Cup game confirming how no-one else loves Saints like you? 2) How will these additional Saints people spoil your enjoyment. "God help us" - so do you want Saints fans to attend or not? You don't do you? You really, sadly, truly would prefer it if attendances didn't improve as it would make you special. 3) Were you one of those who complained when every one with SFC in their hearts turned up at the last game of the season to roar the the team in the mose depsperate time that I can remember. I suppose the phenominal atmosphere and the unrehearsed pitch invasion and the overwhelming joy were all from people who don't really support Sints like you. 4) Even given all the above I thought even the likes of you might be a lttle bit happy that a big crowd and possible tv money might be great news for the club? Obviously not. You are way more tragic than anyone else who doesn't go regularly at the moment for whatever reason because you actually like it like that! Admit it, you do don't you? Wonderous fan I admire you delusion that you are so special and yet stand amazed at your utter hypocrisy of complaining about poor attendances and then being like a ****ed off like a schoolboy that someone else has discovered the cult band that only you knew about and ruined it. If the clubs interests were really in your heart you'd be delighted we might make a bit of money from this and maybe hang on to a player or two? But I suspect that you might be happy if things got worse so you could boast that you are in an even lessened bunch of die-hards. You've actually got less principles and good will towards the club than any stay away IMO. You're so special.....................
