Legod Third Coming Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 But we have got spanked by Newcastle and humilated by Brissol Rovers on terrestrial TV since then. Can I also predict within half an hour of the final whistle at least six saints fans will be on this forum whinging and *****ing about how biased against Saints the coverage was. Also, the club should bundle the tickets for the game and insist that fans have to buy tickets for at least two other home games in January. Lots of other clubs do it (Derby did it for the Forest game recently) and its the best way to drive as much cash for the club out of our lucky draw. Yep, a big crowd against United will make little difference, against someone like QPR it could make a huge difference!
St Landrew Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 Well, Jan did ask for it yesterday!!!! Could I just be the first poster to trot out the old adage... be careful what you wish for... you may get it. It'll be fun to see how Total Football copes against Man U. But if any of our budding star palyers do well, they'll be on buying lists of all the clubs better off than us. It could leave a bitter taste, this one. But let's enjoy it while it lasts. alpine_saint Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 I could have sworn this thread was locked 2 minutes ago.... Personally, I reckon our decent players have already been scouted out; a decent performance against ManYoo isnt going to make a difference to them going or not. alpine_saint Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 There are what 9k ST holders? That means 8k fans (some of whom will be members admittedly) fighting it out with the 25k who will suddenly want to attend to see Ronaldo and will have their finger hovering above redial the moment tickets go on sale. Can we at least agree that people who HAVE been this season should be given a priority over those who have not? I have NO problem with people that have gone regularly this season without an ST being given priority through the database, OR with a ticket bundle or voucher system for December with the FA Cup ticket. This would be completely fair. However, I still suspect there would be in the region of 8-10K for general sale avaliable. Why shouldnt opportunists give their money to the club for them ? My entire point on this thread has been about the immediate abuse of stay-aways that this news provoked from the usual ueber-fan suspects. Waiting for Illingsworths views tomorrow on his snot-rag of a site......

As said, if they come to the game, I will welcome them - but moreso their cash!!!! I just hope they see something that makes them come back. Leicestersaint Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 The last FA Cup third round tie we had on terrestrial TV was when we trounced Spurs 4-0 in what was the most ultimate display of total football I have ever seen. NI76 Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 If ever any thread sums up how far we have fallen it's this one. We sound like one of the non-league clubs with everyone creaming themselves about having the chance of playing the mighty Man U. It feels like a lifetime away that we played them twice every season and gave them a fair few spankings along the way. Also, I think the police will need to be on their guard that day as there will be plenty of Mancs out for revenge after one of their fans got beaten into a coma last time they were here. CLOTH EARS Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 I wonder how many of the "I'll never come to St Mary's again while Lowe etc etc etc...." will sneak back without admitting to it? Not me!!! I have just been talking to a mate of mine on the phone who still goes regularly and I said to him that i'd be two faced to go to this one after declaring that I won't go whilst Lowe is back there. I will stick to my guns, many who have said that they wont go whilst Lowe is there will do for this one you can be sure of that. There will be a 32.000 sell out for this one without a doubt and I have to say that it'll be nice to see the place packed again and it'll be a good experience for the young lads too. I will be spending that saturday (3rd) at the AFC Hayes v AFC Totton fixture in the Southern league south & west division, so I hope they either move it to the sunday or lunchtime on saturday so I can watch it on the box. It is not the chairmans team it is our team and when fans understand it is not Lowe who is playing we may all gain from fans returning. I myself vowed never to go again if Gh had returned, how long Id have kept to it I could never say. Come back and see something that may be the start of our renaissance (im not saying winning against MU) the spirit of our youth giving us something to feel some connection with again. I have yet to go to a game supporting or wishing to see any chairman and so we need to get over it.

My comment was targeted at those who SAY that they are avoiding St Mary's because of Lowe but will somehow find it possible to go to a glamorous cup tie. Chris Larkin Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 If there's a good chance that we'll be on TV (and I reckon there is), what times are the televised matches going to be for the FA Cup 3rd Round weekend? SaintSparky Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 Frankly this is a much better draw than getting a non-league team away from home, the team will have no pressure on them and this is, so far during the current season, when they have tendered to perform at their best. NickG Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 So, all those who have been lecturing about "Get behind the team FFS" and "Keep the faith" and "I dont give a shiitt in the boardroom, I am a fan of the club" are now coming out with snide comments because our FA Cup 3rd Round draw is likely to draw a full house. So not only do they lecture others about their lack of attendance, they now feel they have some right to veto which matches people come back for. And despite them counselling about the financial survival of the club, some of them would rather the fair-weather fans didnt turn up so they can continue to wallow in their self-perceived and paid-for positions of moral superiority. You couldnt make it up. Shiit club, shiit fans.... DaveyR Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 There are some sanctimonious ****s on this forum trying to score points over over fans, seriously some people need to have a reality check! Personally I wont be going but living 4 hours away from Southampton has something to do with that, rest assured I will be in a pub shouting my gob off at the telly. I have respect for people who hold their principles about going because of Lowe and I understand their viewpoint. Also I commend the guys and girls that still go. Some people on here really need to have a look at themselves and stop the in-fighting and respect other peoples decisions and principles
sperm_john Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 this is just what we need, if it had been a no name club we would probably loose, saints always raise their game for big clubs, and its even more sweet considering our history against them in the fa cup! i fancy us to win, and even if we dont, its going to be a bloody good day/night at sms!!! full house and lots of noise, like the old days! Daren W Posted 30 November, 2008 Share Posted 30 November, 2008 What amuses me are the threads, now closed, denoucing fans who might want to go to the FA cup game but not the league games.. Utterly, utterly priceless... So let me get this straight. Stayaway fans are apparently killing this club with their non attendance but at the very first attempt these fans of hogh principle decide people aren't going to get tickets and deny the club much needed revenue. You can't have it both ways, you can't say stay away fans are crippling the club by not putting money in the club and then tell them to eff off the moment they want to buy a ticket. You're right when you say fans can't cherry pick their games and any one who doesn't fancy Doncaster or Barnsley shouldn't suddenly find the money to see man Utd but by the same turn you can't then use the "vital income lost" argument when you turn people away. Either their money is good or it's not, they're guilty of being lightweight, part time fans but you can't cherry pick who you want at St Marys any more than you can cherry pick what games you go to....
