How many wins/ goals have we scored since he's been suspended?

Even when he's not at his best, does he take defenders attention away from our other attackers?

Our form hasn't changed since he was suspended. He wasn't playing much anyway.

From what I have seen, Morgan aside, he has the best vision and brain at the club. When he settles in, and with perhaps a more mobile player ahead of him then we will see the best out of him.

Next season he will tear the league apart

The football illiterate kick and run merchants slagged Lallana when he started, they were wrong. Then they slagged Morgan and guess what? They were proven wrong again. They slagged Rodriguez and what's been the result? The same.

Now they're slagging Gaston. And guess what? I couldn't really give a sh.it because they have proven time and again they don't have a clue.

Gaston is a class player, who's young and made a switch from a very different league. There's always a settling period with any player but the obvious signs of talent are there. In terms of his distribution he's head and shoulders above any other player here, his shooting is off at the moment but importantly he still has the confidence to try it.

The main thing for me is fitness, i'm really unsure why he's not able to make a full 90 yet, but i'm sure that'll change with time.

Still we could always have a vote for who we'd prefer, him or Davis, then come back and laugh at it later along the lines of Morgan or Wotton. Since i'm sure the vote right now will be for the poorer player.

Who is promoting "kick and run" football? I can't remember anyone slagging off Lallana when he started. Rodriguez has still been hit and miss. Pochettino has left Ramirez on the bench, as did Adkins at times, I take it they are both "football illiterate kick and run merchants"?

I am pretty sure that he could last the 90,when he comes off its because we either go a bit more defensive or we change our shape, because he more of a "luxury" player he most likely to be the player to be sacrificed

I think we would have won yesterday with him playing, were crying out for a bit more flair and vision at times.

Really hope he stays (pretty likely he will), he could be a big player for us next season.

As many have said, with a season of experience, a ore season under his belt and settling into England more, I can see him improving big time next year. His biggest problem is his price tag. He cost a lot so people expect miracles.

His touch, vision and ability will see him come good in time. If we sell him now, I think we'll regret it big time in a couple of years.

Posted

Will be a great player for us next season IMO.

Hope he doesn't leave. He's got great feet and awareness.

I noticed he was on his own yesterday on the lap of honour though? Has his wife/girlfriend not come over with him? Or is he single?

Posted

An enigma for me this season. He's clearly got skill, ability and flair in abundance but for whatever reason it was displayed in fits and starts. Whether it's a settling-in period, the formation, desire or whatever I hope MP is able to get the best out of him next season as I'm sure we haven't seen it yet, not in a consistent manner anyway.

that's rich coming from you Ottery, still I suppose you've seen the light on the road to Damascus

I always felt, maybe unfairly, that he got knocked off the ball too easily.

Needs to bulk up, I'm sure it will happen - was only a few weeks ago Morgan was saying about how much strength he had to gain when he first came here.

Now I have coached your boy..Morgan to the dizzy heights, I can now start to work on Gaston:p

So when Sir Alex says foreign and young players should be given more than 1 season to adjust and acclimatise he's talking b0ll0cks is he?

Gastons shown plenty of glimpses of what he's capable of, give the lad a chance.

It would be wrong to get rid of Gaston from so many point of views.

1. Talent like that is not easy to find.

2. It´s not good to show players we want to sign that if they dont perform great the first year we want to get rid of them.

3. It´s very likely that he will improve significant and I think MP knows what kind of players he need around him to be a real force in this league, some pacey wingers for example...

And just to compare, Kagawa in Man U had 20 games, 6 goals 4 assist. Not much better than Gaston and that´s playing for the Champions....

I took constant abuse for saying that I thought his season would be a poor reflection on the stupid amount we paid yet my prediction was pretty much spot on.

Never should've given £12m for him. We need to try and get as much of that back as soon as possible. If he stays another season we'll see a fraction of what we paid.

I think the total opposite. Keep him and he will shine for us next season..... feel free to bookmark

Said this on another thread, but for me, he produced the two best individual performances of the season - against Villa at home and Newcastle at home. He was untouchable in both games and showed exactly the kind of talent we have on our hands.

Also, his composure and finishing is excellent (Wigan away aside) - thinking the clinical way he took his goals against Arsenal and West Ham in particular.

Can only echo what others have said about next season - don't think he will ever be a week in, week out consistent performer, but he will improve and next season, after a year to learn what the PL is about, I have no doubts that he will have far more impact on our campaign, particularly at SMS.

Hope we don't sell him off and to be honest, hard to see why we would. Don't think we would recoup the £12m for him and as this one was a signing driven by NC, I doubt he will be willing to let him go so soon, otherwise it will be admitting that he wasted money on him.

Would imagine that MP will be under pressure to get the best from Gaston next season, and I'm confident he will. A big part of our future.

Posted
and why would he not ?

Because others felt he would never be seen at the club. Personally I can't wait to see him play next season.

We were joking at WHL how influential Guly was in that game and how funny it would be if those two got together, playing at the same time, and bringing the best out in each other. I can see a few on here choking at just the thought of that :)

Dont know how you can say that? I mean, how many games have we won because of him, one, maybe two. We were cryinbg for a bit of 'flair and vision' against QPR and WBA, did he provide it then? So how would he have provided it on Sunday?

And how many games have we pretty much played with 10 players, thus giving uis little chance of winning the game?

Happy to see him stay another season assuming no one wants to come and pay our money back for him, but he really has to pull his finger out (and i dsont mean run around at 100 mph), there was a lack of understanding in his game, and its pretty inexcusable to lose possesion the amount of time he did last season.

Personally, don't believe he came here for the right reasons, and that will be his downfall.

eer, yes he did. scored and helped us create 21 shots on goal

it was one of those game that happens now and then

I can't remember the Newcastle game for some reason, but I think you need to add Everton to your short list. He was absolutely amazing until he got injured.

pretty good at home to arsenal.

what annoys me is how he tried too may flicks or holds on to the ball too long. he does give away possession easily in the middle of the park. and he clearly cant last the pace in a prem game. Next season will be an interesting one. want to see more goals and better dead ball deliveries. against West ham, his free kicks were utterly terrible

I'm a huge fan, but I'm sorry to say you hit the nail on the head with that comment. Hopefully he'll get it right next season. I think he will. As much as I appreciate what Davis has done this season, I don't want to see him at the head of the diamond next season as often as this.

That first half against Everton was his best in our shirt IMO. Almost unplayable in that half...

Newcastle he setup Lallana and scored the rebound but I dont remember anything more from that game either....

I think he had a good game against Liverpool but was subbed due to tactical reasons, we wanted to nullify Lucas that had been brought on and dominating first 10 minutes of 2nd half.

Norwich away is imo the best away game, involved in almost everything we created in that game.

His lack of stamina is a concern. Perhaps he needs to pace himself a little better as he is moving all the time and that's what makes him such a good player for us. He;s doing too much in the first 20 minutes possibly.

Our dead ball stuff is terrible full stop. We've been crap since Chamberlain left. Buy him back for his corners alone. I don't want to see Lallana taking them ever. I also want to see a return of having at least one or two of our smaller players on the half way line.

he was good in that game, Fulham away as well. He grabbed that game by the scruff of the neck and was a threat. What struck me in both games was his ability to control the ball dead in horrific conditions. With the likes of Lallana and Lambert we have been spoilt a little in terms of players with fantastic first touches, but this guy's touch is even better. All he has to do is start picking the right pass a little more often in the final third, cut out the nutmegs on the half way line and be right on it in every game.

I do wonder at times whether he's tried too hard to impress, tried to do too much on his own. Pressure of a big fee in a smaller team?. Games where others have also been playing well, moving well have seen him flourish like Liverpool at for example, Lallana, Jay Rod and Lambert were all causing Liverpool trouble in their own ways and Gaston seemed to thrive on this, moving the ball about quickly, one twos etc. In games where we haven't flowed as well he often does these flicks, very deep dribbles etc. and looses the ball.

Maybe another one/two big money signings might take the focus off him a bit.

It's an awkward one. Many have defended Gaston. Whilst he's yet to set the world alight and justify the transfer fee, it's obvious the talent is there. When he's got the ball at his feet there's no one better at the club, and as a result the fans are expecting more in terms of pass completion, goals and assists. I fully believe he will deliver the goods next season, although wouldn't be too downhearted if he leaves.

He needs someone to pass to in the final third, or Steven Davis may as well be there.

I'm with you, provided we sign someone who can move along the defensive line and give us penetration around the opposition box on the occasions we don't get the ball in transitions.

We would be crazy to sell him after just one season. I actually do not think his season was that bad, merely average.

When he played there was always for me the impression that something could happen which might unlock disiplined tight defences. Yes, it did not always work out and his influence faded, but it was not a "bad" season.

As most expect, we would hope for him to be more influential next season, then if fair enough he has a similar level, thats the time to sell him.

Posted

I strongly suspect he will have new teammates that are 'on his wavelength' and of similar ability playing alongside him next season.

only then will be see the best from Gaston Ramirez.

Posted
I would say that if a team of the world wide standing of Juventus are actually interested in signing him then that in itself would be reason to keep him?

Agree with the sentiment, though I have always been a Ramirez supporter here and elsewhere. I just think he needs time and the right team set-up to get the best out of him. I'm sure most on this forum know that the likes of Juventus are football royalty with the highest expectations. It's like Man Utd saying they are interested in him. He may not have set the world on fire here but if even six months after he's gone the best team in Italy thinks he might be good enough for them it is significant.

If he might be good enough for Juventus he's probably too good for us, frankly. MP needs to work out how to use him best. So far, for various reasons, he has not and we have only seen glimpses. Next season will be Rock and Roll football or off you go back to Italy on loan or sale my son i reckon.
