KelvinsRightGlove Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Was quite interesting, thought some may enjoy: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2303850/Southampton-fans-say-goodbye-Nigel-Adkins.html
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Interesting article, but I do disagree with this bit in relation to the players: "Its certainly hard to imagine that they disliked Adkins." Apparently a massive oddball, and although not disliked, was not loved in the way that people would imagine.
FloridaMarlin Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 "Saints fans don’t really seem to do the hatred and ire that supporters of other club’s seem to muster up at the slightest injustice." - who can he possibly be talking about? "Its certainly hard to imagine that they disliked Adkins. They won back to back promotions with him and a rare piece of silverware in three decades." This piece of silverware wouldn't be the JPT won under Pardew, would it?

What silverware did we win under NA, exactly?

This piece of silverware wouldn't be the JPT won under Pardew, would it? Yeah, not sure I agree with everything. And there does seem to be some inaccuracies. But thought it was worth a read, and worth sharing. I don't think it is written by a footy journalist to be fair.

Apparently a massive oddball, and although not disliked, was not loved in the way that people would imagine. And for that reason, I think the players will be really up for it on Saturday. All the talk has been how Adkins will get the Reading players fired up to face his old team? Why? What's it got to do with them? But I think there's more than a few Saints players who will be determined to put one over on Adkins.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Where did you hear this? From a friend who helped out with training the Saints kids and youth from 2007 until late 2012 (was not sacked, just life and priorities changed).
fez Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Be careful what you say. I don't know James Coney, who wrote the article, but it says he's "a lifelong Saints fan" so he may well be active on SaintsWeb
Dig Dig Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 From a friend who helped out with training the Saints kids and youth from 2007 until late 2012 (was not sacked, just life and priorities changed). Cool, cheers. Have heard that the players are really enjoying life under MP and it's showing on the pitch.
Appy Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Good to see This Charming Man making a cameo in that article.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 4 April, 2013 Author Posted 4 April, 2013 I find the view that MP's refusal to say he will thank Adkins as a snub, and lacking in humility. Also, a lack of mention of what a poor question it is & frankly quite rude.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Cool, cheers. Have heard that the players are really enjoying life under MP and it's showing on the pitch. I hear the same. From the sound of it we have a very focused and professional squad.
Saint Garrett Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Why would there be any hate towards Adkins? He's a Saints legend.

Also, a lack of mention of what a poor question it is & frankly quite rude. Yes, because every incoming manager everywhere speaks about the bloke who was there before in reverent terms. Whenever I start a new assignment, I make it a point to talk about the bloke who was just sacked/fired/f**ked off in glowing terms.
danner Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 The guy that wrote this needs to do a bit more research He says Pochetino should have thanked Adkins for the squad well Adkins didn't thank Pardew when asked before the Newcastle game, and why should they ? Stupid bed wetting comment.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 If we lose I hope the BBC reporter remembers to ask Adkins if he'll thank Brian Mac
This Charming Man Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Who the f*ck let this clown in the ground?
This Charming Man Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Good to see This Charming Man making a cameo in that article. First time I've seen it. Fuming.

This Charming Man Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 I reckon he bought a ticket... Kim Jong Un could buy a ticket but I'd still like to think we wouldn't let him in...

Wes Tender Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Iv'e had to correct this guy, who must be feeling a bit of an idiot, because Adkins didn't arrive here until nearly 6 months after we won the JPT oh for pity sake!! Adkins did win Southampton Silverware !!!!! The Johnson Paint Trophy is silverware and is a trophy that adkins helped saints to win. It may not be a big cup but it still counts as Silverware!!!! So everybody who says he didn't win anything for Saints your completelty wrong. Hei is a Saints legend two promotions back to back and a minor trophy. Nuff said. @ aidy T you obviously know nothing about southampton, they did win a trophy under adkins, get your acts straight beore posting!!! Terrible un-informed post !!! I'm not going to tell you waht trophy they one do some research and work it out idiot!
