dubai_phil Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 OSN just did a full re-run of S1 of Game of Thrones. I saw the 1st episode back when it was 1st on, then missed some so was waiting for the DVD. Instead was able to do the "Sky +" thing and nailed the whole series, we watched it over about 4 nights Have to say watched like that you really get drawn in to the story sooooooo much more than the weekly version. Again quality story-telling. But as the season ran on I REALLY REALLY REALLY cannot believe they showed it down here Un-cut. Jeez, half of Saudi must still be over that (specially the Brothel audtion scene!) My youngest was on the patio with some mates - I made a joke about "watching porn" and even the Yoof were shocked (and all sat down to watch!) Cracking stuff, looking forward to S2, cannot believe the whole of S1 was just building and building for what looks to be a mahoosive canvas. Must get the book(s) methinks read that it was very true to them. Must also lend them to EoA - has to be better than an SBJ day with a manky Burger
pap Posted 15 March, 2012 Share Posted 15 March, 2012 The books are excellent, Phil. The only disappointment is that for the last couple of books, you only see half the characters in each (each chapter focuses on one character). Only problem with the TV show is that they skimp on the battles. They won't be able to get away with that as the story progresses.

LVSaint Posted 16 March, 2012 Share Posted 16 March, 2012 Halfwat through Showtime's Homeland and am dead impressed with it. Claire Danes is excellent as the unbalanced CIA agent who is trying to foil a home based terrorist plot. In fact, acting all round top notch, pacing perfect and Morena Baccarin is so very yummy. Only a few episodes left. New season in September.

Bearsy Posted 11 April, 2012 Share Posted 11 April, 2012 Hi Phil! Does the little blonde one get naked again? She was my favourite from the first season! dubai_phil Posted 11 April, 2012 Share Posted 11 April, 2012 Hi Phil! Does the little blonde one get naked again? She was my favourite from the first season! You know the little blonde dragon chick what was always getting rear ended by that big warrior dude! Edit: Dat's her! Emilia hubba hubba woof woof - no not me that was FMDP's answer when I said Jeez that chick's HOT... (apparently she's become really hot property in the Acting biz as well - noticed her name is now the FIRST one on the list during the intro! So in answer - so far (SPOILER ALERT) no - she just looks distraught, dishevelled, Little Girl Lost marooned in a desert. so ACTUALLY even MORE woof woof than before Mind you just about every other chick in the series gets naked. Hell in Ep 2 there is even a YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME skanky arrgh yuk who gets doggied. But I think the Red Headed Witch who spoils the table of toy soldiers could become a fav. She ain't no Emilia but she has really nice tits (Oh and yes there are naked men in it for the girls) Oh and one really funny "gag" about the chick who looks like Sean Bean's daughter meeting Rob Stark's mate at Castle Rock.... You'll just say to yourself "Why does that never happen to me?" and the answer comes pdq (hint - we don't live in poopey) Meanwhile House last season Episode 3 - "13" returns for a show... With her new Lesbian Lover. The snogging scene at the end was enough to get me rushed to Princeton Memorial with an incurable disease of lust. Mind you House does get a new assistant who has the potential (to quote FMDP) - "to be almost as hot as 13" - we wait for both next episodes with baited breath... (Oh and don't worry, it's OK me & FMDP have a great relationship - eg Emilia - "honey - you get the chance to sh@g her one time I would be SO proud of you as long as you came back after and told me all about it...." - Although my concession -Hon, I have no problems if you want to sh@g Justin Bieber didn't quite seem to have been the right answer...) OK as a deal as we are 2 days ahead I'll promiseto do my best to remember post any updates on Emilia getting her kit off for y'all (Or more Willies for BTF & the girls)
dubai_phil Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 (edited) Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.. OK so I watched GoT on catch up TV last night. Didn't realise they'd pulled the plug half way through on the normal live broadcast http://www.7daysindubai.com/8216-Stop-playing-Game-let-watch-TV-8217/story-15782295-detail/story.html ‘Game of Thrones’ has just been taken off air, because of nudity!!! What a joke. We’re allowed to watch the most violent movies, killings and total garbage, yet a bit of nudity and an entire series gets taken off air! We already miss out on half of the US series! They say it’s not suitable for families, which means kids. Well what are young kids doing up so late to watch it??? Well, I have to say I am surprised it stayed on air so long down here. Also gutted that it has gone. Never mind, just have to download it http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/game-of-thrones-taken-off-air-due-to-nudity Ah ha so it was only ONE of the Cable providers who took it off line.... However I think this is going to be a story that will run and run Edited 12 April, 2012 by dubai_phil

Hehehe Well it was on the Sat channel tonight, (totally NOt on Cable though) but for the first time we had an R notice - said Restricted Viewing Adults only contains Nudity & Violence. Woo Hoo! And then? Well suffice to say it was expanding the story line so pretty short on boobs and NO sign of Emilia. A nice lolage with the Gay brother's topless wife trying to. Oh hell you'll see. Bearsy Posted 18 April, 2012 Share Posted 18 April, 2012 I've been catching up on Game of Thrones new season as recommended by Phils! It's pretty sweet! Bit slow tho I thought in the first couple of episodes i guess they're setting the scene and introducting the new characters and what not, i think the first season was kind of the same bit of a slow burner then all of a sudden sh!t got real! Two episodes in and no sign of blondies boobs tho. #sadface There was this one bit made me looool when this dude goes home after like 20 years and meets this girl who gives him a lift on her horse back to the castle or whatever. She's a bit of a munter by game of thrones standards but u can tell she's filth. Anyways on the rides back he's all feeling up her boobs and grinding his boner up against her bumside and then Oh No! It turns out She's His Sister!

You've got your lads who are linked to their direwolves, your blood magic to revive Drogo and of course, your actual dragons. I've read the books - more supernatural stuff to come - but it's done well and its internally consistent. Starting to get a few of the answers now and I'm pretty happy with the stuff so far. Just love it though - it's really vast, layered and textured stuff. A lot easier to get through than the Lord of the Rings. Some may consider it heresy, but I think I prefer the Song of Ice and Fire series.

LVSaint Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 Ricky Gervias Show Third Season. Whilst Ricky has been off the boil for a number of years now, the podcasts of old are still funny. That said, the first episode of the new series was not very good. It appears that the audio material is only a year old which is why it is not as funny anymore. They needed to stick with the winning formula that was the podcasts of 8 years ago.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 3 May, 2012 Share Posted 3 May, 2012 I'm looking forward to watching Series 2 of The Killing (C4 Wednesday) - this series has a truly hard act to follow because the original was near perfect, if you like this kind of thing. In a similar vain the suitably dark and densely plotted Danish/Swedish crime story 'The Bridge' (BBC2 Saturday night) is not at all bad either. I must say considering how influential our television industry was in helping to establish what we might call this 'quality crime' format with groundbreaking programming such as Cracker & Prime Suspect, it is rather depressing to see just how far off the pace we have now fallen. For instance the BBC's best current effort - Silent Witness - is in my opinion not even nearly the equal to the best Scandinavian crime drama, or their popular English language US produced adaptions for that matter. We really must try harder.

dubai_phil Posted 8 May, 2012 Share Posted 8 May, 2012 Just watched the first episode of series two of Shurlock. This could run and run, it is excellent. Dude it is WAY better than excellent. Series 3 planned for filming next year. Watched a damned fine (I expect Beeb mini-series/play) that our local mob turned into a movie the other night. Page Eight. What an excellent INTELLIGENT piece of TV with a great cast (Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon, Rachel Wiess & Ralph Fiennes) sort of a poor mans Smiley. (Yeah I know it isn't Scandinavian Crime but sometimes you want an old fashioned type of take with a modern twist. Really enjoyed that, nothing to complex or convoluted. Oh GoT this week? WHAY HAY! The boobs are back! Bit of Cow Pat slinging, arm wrenching and some old fashioned attempted brutal rape But still Emilia wandering around being naive and having meetings dressed up to the nines, although think it is starting to dawn on her that she may have to drop them to get what she wants. Hour long episode went by in what seemed like 10 minutes and again gagging for next week. dubai_phil Posted 10 May, 2012 Share Posted 10 May, 2012 (edited) Simon Cowell is SO totally screwed. Every Generation seems to turn out a true Musical Legend, a Billie Holiday, a Sam Cooke or James Brown. Every year reality talent shows turn out a bunch of big selling pop stars. But, somehow, this year is it REALLY possible that a talent show could possibly have found two new legends? D_P "Holy Krap I don't think I have ever seen anything like that before on TV" Steve Tyler (who's way older than me) 30 seconds later - "I've never seen anything like that". Yeah I know people either love or hate reality shows. But tonight this kid did this on global television to a James Brown song about 20 minutes ago. The hairs are still standing up on the back of my neck I am so gonna find the you tube link to "It's a Man's World" by Joshua. http://www.americanidol.com/videos/season_11/performances/ [h=3]Joshua Ledet: It's A Man's Man's Man's World[/h] Joshua Ledet performs "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" by James Brown at the Top 4 performance show. dubai_phil Posted 12 May, 2012 Share Posted 12 May, 2012 Just had an evening power watching 1st 4 episodes of Missing Ashley Judd & Sean Bean Faults - sorry Ashley but you ain't no 30 year old and Sean - you're American accent sounds a horrid mix of Oxford Australian. The original plot has clearly been made more bleedin' obvious for an American audience (I blame Ohio for that) But, getting away from that and the size of their willy rivalry between Interpol & The CIA and (TBH some really glaringly obvious plot twists) it is a damned good romp filmed in some great locations (for the Yanks) Rome, Paris, Ravello, Prague & Moscow It ain't House let alone GoT but it's decent old fashioned "Spy Thriller" entertainment when you want to switch the brain off. pap Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 Just watched Game of Thrones. The show is now definitely starting to deviate on the details from the books, which means I now have to hold two very similar but slightly different worlds in my head, but it's to be expected. The books are massively long, have tons of characters and it'd take about ten times as long to do them all justice. HBO is covering a book a year, and they have ten episodes. They've done a really good job of containing the core of the story by fusing a few characters together. Classic example of this are the Tywin/Arya scenes. Not sure they ever cross paths in the books, but she definitely didn't serve as his cup-bearer. At this point, think Tywin is out in the field chasing Robb Stark. Arya served as The Mountain's cup-bearer. Nevertheless, it's a real smart move. Tywin is a major player in the books. The Mountain is a bit of incidental detail to Arya's story. Plus Charles Dance is a much better actor than the bloke who plays the Mountain, who I suspect was auditioned using a measuring tape. Tonight's ep? Very good. There's a clear shift on the nudity/claret slider into the claret section. Also, and in deference to Bearsey - Ygritte (the girl hanging out with Jon Snow) looks like a young, fit, Bianca from Eastenders. I know that sounds impossible, so please, dubai_phil and Bearsey - back me up here. It looked really good too. Nice contrast between all the different locations. There's a shot than pans over the ruined castle of Harrenhal which looks bloody stunning. Next few eps are going to be action-packed, I think. What's Eastenders? But yes felt that last night was a really powerful episode, the only "wooden" acting left seems to be coming from Calese (sp) but seeing how everything and everyone develops you can see how that is beginning to boil up and change. Think she has some naivety to lose fairly soon.... Theon's descent into a dark place is a strong subplot. Even with, as you say. some cutting & pasting of characters, they have a hard job on their hands keeping all the pieces together. At the moment they just about seem to have the number of storylines right. If it got many more I think it would start to become very difficult for many to follow. I watched S1 in "Power Viewing" mode on catch up Series Stack in the space of about 4 days and it was just superb. Surprisingly for all the subplots I am finding that it still holds together so well when watched "properly" each week. Sure as hell would not want to miss an episode though. (Hopefully the OSN Plus box down here will work smoothly while I am on vacation in a couple of weeks) The scenery "North of the Wall" is absolutely sensational, and yet Qarth seems to consist of only a couple of rooms so far. Lots to look forward to though.
Bearsy Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 (edited) Just watched Game of Thrones. There you are with the ****ing "Bearsey" spelling again pap! I thought we'd sorted all that out! The post was interesting though cos I've started reading the books, I'm only like a third into the first one so far cos i is pretty slow readers but i'm actually surprised how similar the books are to the tv. Everything so far seems to be happening pretty much exactly the same! The only difference I've noticed is when the blonde one is getting boned that one time she is doing it in front of all the other horsemen dudes when in tvs she was all doing it in private. I think dat bit was better in the books! I did like the bit with Bianca! I haven't seen this weeks yet but I liked the bit in last weeks episode when she was all rubbing her bumside against his boners! norwaysaint Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 There's a lot of talk about that in this week's episode. I think they're moving on from the nudity now they've got our attention. I don't think the blonde one will get them out again, probably in her contract just to do it in the first series. I'd imagine that if the viewing figures drop, tits will return. Not the most exciting episode this week really.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 I'm eagerly awaiting the return of the BBC's top legal drama 'Silk' tonight. Although the stars are undoubtedly the wonderful Maxine Peake and the seldom unemployed Rupert Penry-Jones who play the barristers, my personal favorite is their Senior Clark at Chambers 'Billy Lamb' played by Neil Stuke. In a programme filled with clever people something tells me he may just be the smartest of the lot.
LVSaint Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 Dude it is WAY better than excellent. The scenery North of the Wall is just stunning (Surely John Snow should wear a hat, he'll catch his death) I'll look out for that. Looks as though it will come to the PBS channel, who have screened many UK shows (including Shurlock) already. Hound of the Baskervilles was decent last night, only one left next week. Will catch up with GOT this evening.

Many people are happy when you drop them a couple of e's. As for Game of Thrones, they start to mess with a few details in season two, but if they didn't cut some of it out, you wouldn't have the boning. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 20 May, 2012 Share Posted 20 May, 2012 (edited) Last night saw the 10th - and concluding - episode of BBC4's dark Scandinavian crime saga 'The Bridge' and I must say I enjoyed every single minute of it. I won't bore you with a long attempt to summarise its complex plot, suffice it to say that this is basically the story of the manhunt for a dangerous psychopath that takes place in both Denmark & Sweden - the two nations linked by the 'Bridge' of the title. Apart from being a typically well crafted piece of 'Scandinavian Noir' what makes this stand out from the crowd is the highly unusual - if not dysfunctional - personality of top Malmo homicide detective 'Saga Noren' (Sofia Helin) What exactly is wrong with this formidable young detective is never spelt out, but although she is certainly highly organised and very intelligent, she just doesn't understand normal human relationships and how people are expected to behave in society. She's far beyond what we might think of of being just a naturally cold person, she seems to be suffering from some sort of high functioning autism like condition perhaps. To investigate this cross border crime Saga is teamed up with middle aged Copenhagen detective 'Martin Rohde' (the wonderful Kim Bodnia) - a family man with a murky past who finds it difficult to perform the roles of faithful husband and good father. The combination of Martin's charm and instinctive understanding of Human nature set against Saga's ruthlessly efficient Robocop act makes a fascinating double act that will be much missed on Saturday nights by this viewer. So a big hearty "tak" to whoever at the BBC decided to bring this fine series to our screens and please - can we have Series Two as well ?
