Graffito Posted 3 April, 2013 Posted 3 April, 2013 For anyone that hasn't seen it there's some good quality footage here. Generous of old Jasper to sing it for us. £1.50 for the semi at Stamford Bridge and £2.50 for the final. I expect a few of us that use this forum were in that throng behind the goal.

I was one of that throng. Stamford Bridge as well, but not behind the goal. Carrott singing about Saints? He was a Brummie fan.
Saint_clark Posted 3 April, 2013 Posted 3 April, 2013 Am I not reading this right? £1.50 and £2.50 for what, and where?

John Boy Saint Posted 3 April, 2013 Posted 3 April, 2013 Am I not reading this right? £1.50 and £2.50 for what, and where? Really!?!? And amazingly it was still only £2.50 for our game v Forest nearly 3 years later on the 17th March 1979 at the same venue! 1976 Pint of Beer 32p, 20 Smokes 45p, inflation hitting 20 odd percent and the average wage £70 a week for Gents.

I was a student at the time, and those new fangled cashpoint machines were just starting to appear. I used to take out a fiver to last me for a week. Food, beer, fags, petrol, the works.

You do realise that there will be Nippers on here, thinking this lot are having a laugh: 32p for Beer! £5 lasting a week!! "Come on Grandad, tell us some more lie......... Stories" makes me feel a little old too
VectisSaint Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 We used to live in shoe box in middle of road. Tell that to kids today and they won't believe you.
Toadhall Saint Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 We used to live in shoe box in middle of road. Tell that to kids today and they won't believe you. And Monty Python reigned supreme.

I didn't know it had been put up in the Lounge but it deserves a wider audience anyway. It was a great day, as was the semi final. Winning the FA Cup is big now but my recollection is that winning it back then had as much prestige as winning the league.
Wurzel Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Thanks to St John. I didn't know it had been put up in the Lounge but it deserves a wider audience anyway. It was a great day, as was the semi final. Winning the FA Cup is big now but my recollection is that winning it back then had as much prestige as winning the league. Back in the pre-Sky, pre-Premier League days it was probably bigger. Winning the title over 42 games was a bigger achievement, but winning that one off final, one of the few, if not the only, matches live on TV in the entire season, was the game that everyone would remember.
