German-based manufacturer GoalControl is set to provide goal-line technology (GLT) at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Means that Hawkeye has missed out on the world cup. Hopefully they'll win the contracts in England (FA and Premiership)

They didn't make the short list - This selectionwas between one of two companies and they weren't invloved.

It showed when it was over the line which is the point surely?

Yeah it showed balls flying into the back of the net but it would have been nice to see those type of decisions where the ball bounces of the underside of the crossbar and then just over the line and then out again!!!

Problem is they were concentrating only on the goal line where having a couple of sensors is going to be feasible and where a goalmouth scramble might hide the ball from hawkeyes cameras. Its a pity they were not looking for a system to recording every time the ball went out of the playing area as the number of crucial times where a decision about if the ball was kept in play far outnumber the did it or didn't it cross the goal line situations.

Well considering they're one of if not the most industrialised and technologically advanced countries in Europe, it's not much of a surprise at all.

Indeed they are, thanks in no small amount to the Marshall Plan and British post-war industrial management. However, they certainly are not the most inventive or creative, especially when compared to the innovation coming out of this country - which unfortunately usually ends up being developed by other nations (like Germany and the US).

Anyway we all know Sepp and his mates have the whole thing sewn up.

That has to be the worst promotional video ever. How about showing a situation where the thing would actually be used!

Well the point is, if it doesn't go over the line, it says nothing! So if it didn't go in, there'd be nothing to show.
