doubleonothing Posted 2 April, 2013 Posted 2 April, 2013 German-based manufacturer GoalControl is set to provide goal-line technology (GLT) at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22002733 Means that Hawkeye has missed out on the world cup. Hopefully they'll win the contracts in England (FA and Premiership)

doubleonothing Posted 2 April, 2013 Author Posted 2 April, 2013 Wasn't aware of that. Thought they were one of the two. At least it's getting introduced though!
Big Bad Bob Posted 2 April, 2013 Posted 2 April, 2013 Shame the vid doesn't show a ball just on the line and just over it.....
hypochondriac Posted 2 April, 2013 Posted 2 April, 2013 Shame the vid doesn't show a ball just on the line and just over it..... It showed when it was over the line which is the point surely?
Big Bad Bob Posted 2 April, 2013 Posted 2 April, 2013 It showed when it was over the line which is the point surely? Yeah it showed balls flying into the back of the net but it would have been nice to see those type of decisions where the ball bounces of the underside of the crossbar and then just over the line and then out again!!!
Faz Posted 2 April, 2013 Posted 2 April, 2013 I called all of those more quickly than the technology. Rubbish. And who was that in goal???
ottery st mary Posted 2 April, 2013 Posted 2 April, 2013 I called all of those more quickly than the technology. Rubbish. And who was that in goal??? Gillingham Reserve GK called Tommy:rolleyes:

Totally agree. All I saw there was the bleedin obvious!!!.....
aintforever Posted 2 April, 2013 Posted 2 April, 2013 That has to be the worst promotional video ever. How about showing a situation where the thing would actually be used!
pedg Posted 3 April, 2013 Posted 3 April, 2013 Problem is they were concentrating only on the goal line where having a couple of sensors is going to be feasible and where a goalmouth scramble might hide the ball from hawkeyes cameras. Its a pity they were not looking for a system to recording every time the ball went out of the playing area as the number of crucial times where a decision about if the ball was kept in play far outnumber the did it or didn't it cross the goal line situations.

This Charming Man Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Surprised that it's a German company....not. Well considering they're one of if not the most industrialised and technologically advanced countries in Europe, it's not much of a surprise at all.
Pugwash Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 Well considering they're one of if not the most industrialised and technologically advanced countries in Europe, it's not much of a surprise at all. Indeed they are, thanks in no small amount to the Marshall Plan and British post-war industrial management. However, they certainly are not the most inventive or creative, especially when compared to the innovation coming out of this country - which unfortunately usually ends up being developed by other nations (like Germany and the US). Anyway we all know Sepp and his mates have the whole thing sewn up.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 4 April, 2013 Posted 4 April, 2013 That has to be the worst promotional video ever. How about showing a situation where the thing would actually be used! Well the point is, if it doesn't go over the line, it says nothing! So if it didn't go in, there'd be nothing to show.
