Saints boy in Leeds Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Ok, not trying to tempt fate and jump the gun but IMO we should stay up. So if we do, which positions do we think MP will get new signings for ? For me its - 1 or 2 x CB - £9m 1 x LB & RB - £8m 1 x spicy / flair mid £10m 1 or 2 x CF - £15m I know that's a lot to ask and a lot of money but if we want to stay in the PL and compete IMO we need to be getting those 5 at least players in. Maybe its wishful thinking but IMO we need this.
Gambol2K9 Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 For me it's one more CB, a RB, an out and out winger with pace and another striker. Evolution not revolution.
ToreSF Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 CB, RB (back up) and a versatile attacking midfielder with ability to play on both wings.
saints_is_the_south Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Re-sign Boruc Right back as cover for Clyne. Left back as cover for Shaw. If Wigan go down then I'd be after Figueroa. Winger with genuine pace, somebody who can beat a man. Ince would be my pick. Could be a challenge to bring in squad players better than we already have in the full back areas though. No player of any real quality is going to want to come and sit on the bench behind a 17 year old. Fox seems happy enough to play that role, and whilst he is far from the best he is adequate back up.
S-Clarke Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Don't expect many signings. I can probably see 1 or 2 additions. A utility defender, who can offer cover in both FB positions and CB. and a pacey winger/come striker.
Saint Garrett Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Depends on whats next on the conveyor-belt of academy talent I would imagine. If Targett is as good as people are making out, then I wouldn't be surprised if we don't bring in another full back. Also Clyne and Forren can play there. I would bring in a RB though. Possibly another CM in case Morgan or Cork are injured and to add competition, but they'll have to be willing to not play much... Probably another player who can play up front and wide, in the J-Rod mould. Wouldn't expect us to bring in too many though. The players have shown they're good enough to compete in the top 10 since those first 10 games. A top class CB would be a definite for me though depending on what the club are doing with Forren....we might already have one.
studentsaint Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Craig Gardner. Rb/cm. Athlete, good striker of the ball. All rounder for the squad.
Bearsy Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 I'd get a goalkeeper, a centre back and a winger. All for the first team, i wouldn't sign any squad player yo I'd be filling up the bench with academy. The prices this summer are gonna be mental! All these prem clubs having extra £30m or whatever burning hole in their pants. Better summer to be doing sellings than buyings!

Spot on for me (except I would add signing Boruc) in the following order of priority: Boruc 1 x Top Class CB (major signing 8-12m) RB (1-2m squad player) Attacking/Wide player (I'm not convinced its a 100% priority, but if Punch is on the way, it would need to be someone better than him so 5-6m or 10m for a real improvement) DM (3m - JWP only real DM cover and I'm not 100% sure he is ready for that job yet. Don't see Davis as a DM) Can we afford the 27m needed for that lot especially when its unlikely we will get much from sales? Possibly with the new Sky deal and if those coming in have asset value like JayRod or Gaston. Edited 1 April, 2013 by Brussels Saint Changed priority order. JWP needs to step up. No point promoting the academy unless you have some faith in them
Bearsy Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 i don't reckon we're gonna re-sign boruc. We're gonna import some slick from spain or something.
swannymere Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 New manager as PoPo will be sacked to make way for Cortese. In goal we'll have Kelvin as Boruc is signing for Villa, in defence left back as cover for Fox as Shaw will be off, two new right backs as Clyne will also be jumping ship, a new centre half to accompany Yoshi. In midfield Punch is due a meltdown and another period on the bench so cover will be needed, as everyone ITK knows Ramirez is going back to Italy so we'll need a replacement, Cork is resigning for Chelsea with John Terry coming the other way, Schneiderlin is going to Arsenal. Up front Lallana is off to Reading to join up with Adkins as he's injury prone, SRL is going to Liverpool in PX against Carroll (got to build for the future), Rodriguez is clearly not PL standard and will be loaned out to a Championship side. In short, and going by what all the ITK peeps say it will be a massive rebuilding job overseen by Cortese, the ITK's and vote's on various forums as we all know better.
paulwantsapint Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 1st & most important summer signature Luke Shaw 2nd Artur Boruc/ new keeper Then assess what kids we have got before strengthening Wide attacker Cb Cm
70's Mike Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 no massive changes evolution not revolution. one CB one Midfield one striker in that order
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Lose lots of the fringe team. Sorry Hammond, Sharp, Chappers, De Ridder, Butters, Frazer et al. You all did your jobs, it's nowt personal, but if we want to progress, they haven't a future here. Better for them to be playing football I think. All the best to them. I'd like to see an extra body of quality in most positions. To clarify: A young, nippy FB in the Clyne mould, adaptable to play both sides. Able to push both Clyne and Shaw, perhaps less of a liability than Danny Fox (who could possibly go in the out category - again, nothing personal). Big priority for me, as suggested by many others is a commanding CB, of top quality. If there is to be a Lambert (at the time)/Gaston type 'marquee' signing, this is where I would like to see one. I agree with some assertions that pairing this type of Yoshi, may help bring out the best in him also. A real leader at the back would be great, though I am aware there seems to be a lack of these around at present. That's what scouts are paid to do though. If there are any available, perhaps a young CB able to do a job if really needed, if signed in addition to above CB, this could possibly see Jose/Jos in the out category likewise. Happy to leave this to MPs discretion, as an international CB himself, his judgement is likely better than mine. A Young DM to push/learn from Cork & Morgan. I'm unsure whether JWP is seen as ending here or further forward. If he is deemed as being good enough for this, fair enough. Again, another one for the 3 would be good. Pace & tricks a plenty please. I know it's a bit different, but it seemed Mata has flourished this year having Oscar, and particularly Hazard around him. Perhaps another like minded player could help bring out the best in Gaston, possibly? A young CF, again to push Rickie & JRod, and able to deputise if needs be. Again, possibly pacy. If they could perhaps pick up some of Rickies house, they may well turn out to be some player. All just my opinion, and what I would like to see in an ideal world, though obviously it's no where near as simple as that. Boruc needs a new contract too. If he does leave, a GK of equal ability absolutely has to be a priority, possibly more so than CB.
corky morris Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 A pacey winger, a top quality centre half & full back cover.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 All good stuff but I bet at least 1 of our top players will be sold and will need replacing
The Kraken Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 A pacey winger, a top quality centre half & full back cover. Pretty much that, really. Also depends on what the club ambitions are, but perhaps a top striker too.
Noodles Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Who's going to want to come in and be a back up for a 17yr old? Top class dominating central defender in the Vidic mould. Winger with pace who can play on either flank. Get Boric signed up and then build the team gradually instead of buying fringe players.
RobM Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 CB's for me, that's by far the most important position. We can attack, we can score goals, so if we can be confident of being absolutely solid at the back we're in a really good position. Second position would be an attack-minded winger with pace. Somebody to give us a different option.
Berudenot2 Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Samir Handanovic GK Muniain FWD Gregory Van Der Wiel RB Davide Astori CB Should get change out of about £60m for that lot.
SNSUN Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 A pacey winger, a top quality centre half & full back cover. This, and a GK if Boruc goes.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 I don't think MP will buy at home, he will forage in Spain or Italy mainly.
S-Clarke Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Samir Handanovic GK Muniain FWD Gregory Van Der Wiel RB Davide Astori CB Should get change out of about £60m for that lot. I don't think we're going to be spending close to that! Not sure why we need to buy a top RB anyway, as we already have one.

doggface Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 Quick direct striker - Lens? " " winger - Tom Ince, De Bruyne? Dominent CM to play alongside MS - In the Lucas Biglia mould Quick commanding centre back - Davide Astori GK - No idea, but IF Boruc leaves/or goes mental/drunk/fat (delete as applicable) will be KEY
Avenue Saint Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 7 players. 1. Boruc 2 & 3. 2x fullbacks: adequate cover for clyne and shaw 4. A centre back: to complete a quartet of yoshida, fonte and Forren 5. A central midfielder: to compete with/cover Morgan and cork 6. A pacy winger: to rotate with lallana, JRod and puncheon 7. A striker: Mayuka doesn't seem to be favoured by MoPo, and need depth adding to Lambert and JRod Squad trimmed to make space for new additions while raising the overall standard of playing squad: Richardson Butterfield Seaborne Hooiveld Fox Chaplow Hammond Guly De Ridder Forte Barnard Sharp Mayuka (?)
melmacian_saint Posted 1 April, 2013 Posted 1 April, 2013 If we keep Jos and get rid of Jose I will cry.
